Chapter 5 - destiny

Esteban sighed inwardly, even though he had said what he said. He couldn't help the feelings of excitement and anticipation from invading him and slowly filling his entire being.

The desire and illusions of being someone special were not something new. In his past life, he always thought that he was someone special and ended up being a failure in society.

"But what am I thinking?" He bit into the sandwich angrily. Good things never happened to people like him.

On the way to his living room, he passed a group of girls talking with laughter. Normally Esteban completely ignored the girls around him, as a method of self-defense. But one of them, powerfully attracted his attention. He appeared to be about 16 or 17 years old, wavy black hair not too long, not too short. Her face was so beautiful and delicate, it almost seemed finely crafted to show what the definition of true beauty was like. His complexion was very white, which was in stark contrast to his totally dark eyes, eyebrows and hair. His thin pink lips rose slightly, making Esteban's heart and mind feel that they had been purified, making him feel completely renewed.

She was Haley Kingcroff, a very popular sophomore at the school for her beauty, power, and family background.

They stepped past them with total indifference, as if her mere presence did not exist. Which was reciprocated by the same behavior of the girls, some even looked at him with disdain.

After walking for a while, Esteban turned around and looked behind him. Trying to find the beautiful figure of that girl. When the girls were no longer visible, he turned around and kept walking as if nothing was wrong.

Walking through the corridors of the school he encountered many different groups and situations, from boys being bullied, couples kissing, teasing and joking, but he ignored them all and kept walking from him. He knew there was still a long time to go before the break was over, but he was already bored. He just hoped he could get to his classroom alone and calm to be able to play for a while with his cell phone or maybe sleep.

His day passed very quickly under the watchful eye of Dustin and many of his curious companions. Something that surprised Esteban a lot was that the second most interested in him was callum. He didn't know why, but he also looked at him a lot.

He believed that his day could not get any worse when he realized that Dustin was waiting for him outside the school, right where his father was to pick them up.

Esteban had no choice but to walk home. He did not want to meet Dustin and for him to decide to stay at his house so he could witness his late awakening.

The streets of Delka city looked very beautiful under the soft blanket of sunset. The orange color was softly blurred by the environment, while a cold breeze renewed the tired being of him.

"Ultimately, having to go to school is something he didn't enjoy." Esteban kicked a can on the road, the more he kicked it he began to take it more seriously. He rolled the can from one foot to the other, lifted it into the air, received it with his chest. Just when he imagined himself in a soccer game and that he was about to score a goal ... A scene completely took him out of his place.

A few meters from him, on the Lenmintom pedestrian bridge ... A young man his own age had suddenly jumped to the pavement, from about 15 meters high.

From that height, it was certain death unless he had very good power.

Esteban did not have time to think what was happening and without knowing how or when, his body had moved by itself. He could swear that never in his two lives had he been able to run so fast. His thoughts began to race rapidly as the scene around him seemed to slow down.

The young man who was beginning to fall raised his head in surprise to see a shadow that grabbed him from the collar of his shirt.

As he looked up, he was greeted by firm red eyes.

Esteban clenched his teeth. He had been able to get there in time and grabbed the boy, but now they were in another trouble.

While he with one hand he held tightly to the curb of the bridge, with the other he grabbed the boy. He could clearly feel how his forces were failing him and his arms began to tremble, little by little the hand with which he was holding began to slip.

Esteban was aware that his arm could not support the combined weight of the two for long and he believed it was impossible to lift another person with only one arm.

"Help !! Somebody help me !!" His screams echoed across the street, but no one came near. The seconds passed and no one came to help them, Esteban was beginning to despair. "Someone please!!"

Esteban's fingers began to slip and he knew very well that he did not have much time left.

"Arrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggg !!!" Esteban gritted his teeth as he yelled at the top of his lungs to give himself more strength. With a strength that he did not know he could possess, Esteban began to slowly lift the boy up. These few seconds seemed like an eternity to Esteban, but he could sigh when he saw that the boy had taken a firm grip on the bridge railing.

Only at that moment did Esteban's arms stop shaking and were released before the surprised gaze of Esteban and the boy.

Both pairs of eyes met in that brief moment that seemed eternal.

Esteban still couldn't understand how it is that on such a calm and boring day he could take such a turn.

In the last moments of him Esteban entered a little despair and reluctance. He was not afraid of death, he had already died once. But it felt really horrible to have had a second chance at life and wasted it again.

He still hadn't accomplished anything. He had not had a girlfriend, wife, children, revolutionized an era. What's more, he hadn't even been able to awaken his power.

At the moment when Esteban was deep in thought of him, an arm suddenly reached out and grabbed him by the neck.

"Uh?" Esteban raised his head when he felt the strong pull and saw cold yellow eyes staring at him.

Now the roles were reversed.

Esteban opened his mouth to tell him that he will release him and be saved. But he at the same time he felt a renewal and strong desire to continue living.

He didn't want to die, not here, not today !!

The boy just smiled confidently as bright yellow flames began to appear on his body and before Esteban's shocked eyes the boy easily picked him up and then followed him. In just a few seconds they were both sitting on the edge of the bridge, safe and sound.
