Chapter 13 - The Call

Kenneth's POV

It had been two years since I met my angel. Sure, our relationship hasn't been that easy, especially with the arrival of that self entitled ugly princess, but we had bonded in a tremendous way that I knew nothing would break us, or so I wished.

Pat tried planting a seed of doubt in my angel's mind but I had to work hard to erase it. Thank the goddess, Lucy listened to my weird explanation though I ended up telling her half truths. I still hadn't revealed my real identity so I had to be careful not to mention mates and bonds and stuff like that.

I told her that Pat was attracted to me and thought I was too that's why she said I should tell her the truth. I begged her never to believe anything that came from that witch's mouth because she just wants to separate us. I guess she believed me and it was a relief. 'You will get to know the truth one day my princess. I just pray that the witch doesn't spill the truth about who I am before I did.

But since exposing my truth would mean exposing herself too I just hope she doesn't dream of it. I sighed in exasperation. Keeping something this important from the love of your life, the only person you care about their approval is like carrying a huge burden 24/7, all 365 days of the year. It is exhausting.

Patricia hasn't stopped making her advances but I have crushed and shot down every one of them. Above all, I finally managed to convince my babe to stay away from her otherwise she will make her life a living hell. She finally agreed with me.

We were left with a year to finish our degrees, mine an engineering degree, then I would head back home while Lucy would remain in the South when she finish her degree as a Pharmacist. That's if she rejects me after knowing my truth. My heart shuttered at that thought.

I had an option to either get an internship in the city and be closer to my angel or go back home to the Western kingdom and carry out my duties right away. Of which is expected of me. I was constantly worried about whether Lucy would still accept me after knowing that I'm a lion, and that our race exists we are not just in fiction books or myths. It made me nervous but I knew it was time to tell her.

I contemplated telling her out right or taking her to my kingdom to introduce her to my life and let her decide afterwards. I settled on taking her with me for the holidays at the end of this semester. Me being soon to be the Leo of my Pride, I needed to have a Regina and I sure as hell have made up my mind. I know she is human, but it doesn't matter. Many werelions have been mated to humans before.

I feel so much connection with this girl of mine to the point that I feel Zeus, my lion in agreement with me. 'Beep, beep!' Just as I was deep in thought my phone began to buzz closer to me. Getting me out of my train of thoughts I picked it.

"Hello!" I answered. "Hello my son, how have you been?" my dad's husky voice sounded from the other end. "I'm doing good dad, how's you and mom?" I asked. "Your mom and I are doing well, and so is Deven." Dad responded. "That's great. I'll see you guys in a months time. I'll be bringing some friends over, they want to see my part of the country. " I said not sure how to tell my dad, the king of the great Western Kingdom Prides how I plan on bringing my human girlfriend and introduce her to them as my chosen mate.

My kind doesn't take kindly to letting humans in on our territories. Humans think of us as just creatures in mythology, therefore it is always best if they think of us as just mythical. My father particularly is against exposing ourselves much but since we have mixed with humans in the Eastern and Southern parts of the country, he allows for a little exception to avoid them getting suspicious of us.

There was a long pause from his side. If I didn't hear his breathing, I would think he left. "Dad? Are you there? Is it okay if I bring them?" I repeated. He sighed and said, "fine son. Just don't expose our identity to humans. And again, get ready for the big announcement we have to give when you come here." He added.

My heart leapt at that. I wish he could tell me what announcement it was but I knew he wouldn't. "Any clue as to what it is about?" I tried my luck. He just chuckled and said, "Nope, that's for you to find out when you get here. "Is it something that will make me happy or sad?" I still pressed. "Son, that's will depend on you when you hear the announcement." I sighed deeply.

"Okay dad. I know you won't give me a hint now so I might as well just let it be." I said with an exasperated sigh. He chuckled and we said our goodbyes as he cut the call.

I sat on top of my bed, thoughts flooding my mind as I tried asking myself what could be the big announcement my father had to tell me to prepare for. I shook my head as though that would help but it didn't.

As if sensing my mood, Tom and Mal entered my room. For the first time Tom didn't make fun of me seeing worry written all over my face. "I wouldn't want to be in your place pal. With that worried face of yours, something must be bothering you. Is it that witch again?" he asked.

I cleared my throat as they sat down on each side of me rubbing my shoulders. Though it helped relief the tension a little, it didn't help much. I wish I could tell my angel my troubles and inhale her sweet chamomile and cinnamon scent to calm me down.

I let out a sigh and said, "Dad just called me." I paused to gorge out their emotions from their eyes. "Yes, and so?" the impatient Tom asked throwing out his arms. "He says I should prepare myself for a big announcement." I told them.

"So, that got you worried because?" Mal threw in. I looked at each of them again. "I don't know man, he wouldn't give me a clue so I'm worried because I don't know what it is." I said. They both glared at me like I suddenly grew horns or I was a clown.

"Man, you like working yourself up for nothing. I wonder why. Isn't it obvious? It's about your coronation as the next King and Leo. Do you want to tell me you aren't anticipating that?" Tom said.

"I don't know man but something doesn't settle well about it. Of course I'm anticipating the handing over but I just can't stop to think that announcement is either going to change my life for the good or for the bad." I told them my thoughts.

"I think you are just worried for no reason man. Tell you what, let's go to the gym and work this tension out." Mal said. We got out of my room after I changed and headed to their room to change into workout clothes.

Training is always important whether at the Pride or away from the Pride. After a workout I felt much better. I took a shower, dressed nicely and decided to go and check on my girl to take her out for an afternoon snack at a nice Thai restaurant closer to the school.

I was happy to see her excited by such a little gesture. Women really love this kind of attention I have noticed. It brings a smile to my face whenever I see her so happy.

'As long as you accept me Lucy, I'll move heaven and hell to make you mine and happy for eternity.' I kissed her soft lips as we exited the restaurant, making Zeus purr with excitement.
