"Ughh-What happened?!" he woke up dazed in an empty space with only a dark silhouette of a woman hovering above him.

"Silly you died, I had hoped you'd at least make it to adulthood, but it seems that that was only my wishful thinking..." She hummed in a familiar voice whilst sighing in disappointment.

"What-I mean who are you!?" he frantically replied, scrambling to get up of the empty space below him.

"Oh dear, have you forgotten who your own mother is already. I thought I'd leave at least some impression on your life." she chuckled.

Charlie's sight cleared as the bright light radiating from the woman dulled and his mother filled her shadow.

"Mum... "

"yes?" she beamed the sweet, caring smile she had when she was still alive.

Tears began to form in the corners of Charlie's eyes as he lunged forward and tightly hugged his mother. It had been so long since he'd felt her warmth and it was enough to erase the image of her cold corpse lying on the ground covered in blood.

"hoho, I guess you missed me after all!" she chuckled as she wrapped her arms around him and patted his head softly.

"Y-you, I-I killed you. I remember I-I didn't mean to, but I remember it. How-?" he sobbed into her shoulder, whilst clinging onto her back in desperation that it wasn't all in his mind.

"Well... You did..." she paused as Charlie unravelled from her arms in fear at what she was going to tell him, "but I don't blame you!"

"What!?" Charlie exclaimed reflexively, stepping back from her, " I killed you, but you don't blame me!"

Maddened by her statement, he began to pace back and forth while fear spilled over his face. His mother ran forward and grabbed his hand while moving his sight towards her face.

"Why would I blame you when it was my fault." she stated, brushing away the tears rolling down his redened cheeks.

"How-!"

"Listen" his mother's tone became more serious as she cut him off, "you shouldn't have ever existed, but I wanted a child so much... I wanted to share something with your father which was a creation of both our love."

"I... shouldn't... Exist?" Charlie stepped back as his eyes glazed over in fear that his mother regretted having him as and without truly listening to her words he turned pale in terror.

"It wasn't possible for me and your father to have a child being what I was and how genetically it wasn't possible... But science wasn't the only option so I had no choice but to go against the natural order and found a witch that was willing to help. It was my only choice, you have to understand! " as if trying to convince herself she made the right choice, she started rambling on a downwards spiral.

" Mum! "charlie yelled snapping her out of her trance, as much as he feared hearing what she had to say he wanted to find out what could cause her to be in such panic.

" I-I'm sorry. I... I just, I didn't think it would cause you so much pain I wouldn't have done it if I knew, but I was selfish and arogant and thought that it would be OK. " she stammered while wiping away the small droplets of water that had managed to escape her maddend eyes.

"what do you mean? Mum, what did you do?"

"I purposely made you a vampire... The witch said that the only way a vampire and human could have a child was if they transferred the excess energy flow from the mother onto the child while giving birth. It was the only way and even though she said that vampire children were nearly impossible to control I thought I would be able to" her face slowly became expressionless as though she had remembered something disturbing.

"mum-"

"But it was just my own delusion. Even I know that extreme firsts for blood can cause vampires to loose all rationality... "

"Mum..."

"Me... Its all my fault you've had to suffer like this. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, sorry, SoRrY, SoRrY, I'M SORRY-"

"MUM!!" Charlie yelled, causing his mother to fall to the floor and start weeping. Following after her, he wrapped her in his arms and tried to comfort her with words of reassurance.

"I'm sorry Charlie I tried my best to be careful while raising you but that one day I just forgot to feed you on time and as a result when you smelt the blood of me when I cut my hand... you just attacked on instinct. If only I had been more careful... "

" Why are you apologising, its my fault its always been my fault. That's what everyone says I'm the 'monster' and your the 'helpless victim' it's always been that way, it's not your fault mum. " Charlie smiled as he wiped the tears of his speechless mother's face.

" Ug-ughhh, uaghh... " she wept harder as she realised how broken down her boy had become. 'How has this happened to him? Why was I so selfish to allow him to suffer so much?'

" Mum stop crying... Please" he begged, squeezing her shoulders to make her stop.

"I love you and I'm so sorry that things turned out like this, I'm sorry-" she bawled out, before Charlie wrapped her in a tight hug.

"I love you to mum, but please stop saying your sorry. We're going to be here for a while so we need to get over this before we end up in a loop of sadness and tears." Charlie rationalised.

"What do you mean 'a while' ? You have to go back. You are going back. Someone still needs you there," His mother pushed him back and smiled, emphasising her red, tear-stained cheeks "you can't stay here she still needs you."

"Huh, who-...?!"

Just as he attempted to ask, his mother pushed him backwards into the whiteness beneath that softly engulfed him.

"Goodbye..."
