Chapter 3 - THE EARLY LIFE OF JANE

Jane was born in a humble family. Her father was called Smith Pickett; he was a drunkard who lost his well paying job due to incompetence. He left the burden of caring for the family to his wife - Mary Pickett. She had resorted to prostitution so as to make ends meet; time and again, she brought her clients to her house. Jane was an only child because of the wavy relationship her parents had. In her teenage years, Jane had dropped out of school due to the psychologically overwhelming situation at home. Her father would beat up her mother consistently, and this affected her a great deal. By this time, Jane had resorted to sexually compromising behaviours and she was always seen in the neighborhood making out with young boys of all ages. Jane lost her virginity at thirteen years of age to a college student, who later broke up with her, shortly after the act.

If it wasn't for her distant aunt Connie Heathrow, she would never have returned to school. Heathrow visited her sister one summer to find out why she had gone silent for very many months, and to ask her why she wasn't attending family functions anymore. Upon reaching the house, she burst into tears. The window panes were all shattered, her sister - Mary, had passed out from an overdose of heroine. She waited for Jane to come back from her daily purposeless errands and she helped her pack out. She didn't leave without enrolling her sister into a rehabilitation center, and she took it upon herself to pay the bills. Shortly after they had left, Smith Picket; father to Jane, committed suicide by bleeding himself out in a bath tub. He left a note which read;" Dear Jane, my beautiful daughter, i beg of you to forgive me for not being good enough, but find it in your heart to realize that i couldn't help myself. I love you, and i always will. Send my regards to your mother; forever the love of my life." His body was discovered after three weeks from whence the act was committed. It is sad to note that it was the stench from the house which drew in attention. One concerned neighbor by the name of Jack Hen walked up to the house one Wednesday. He knocked at the front door for about twenty minutes or so, but there was no reply. Upon turning the knob, the door was surprisingly opened. He was welcomed by a gross pungent smell; it was a smell of rotting flesh. Flies were about the whole place, and for the first time, he had known the smell of death. The odour awakened a nausea in him, and he fought tooth and nail to hold it back. "The house was disgusting enough by smell to add vomit to it," he thought. He was rather astonished by the order in the house. The Pickett family seemed extremely disorganized on the outside to have had that style and taste for exquisite furniture and electronics. He noticed the smell getting stronger as he approached the bathroom, and upon opening the door, he stumbled upon a grotesque disfigured resemblance of a human seated in a pool of dark colored water, with maggots swimming in the liquid. Upon laying sight on this fright, he screamed for dear life, and fled the scene, returning hours later with the police.

Back to Jane, her aunt enrolled her into a private school; it took her time to settle in, but she eventually did. And when she did, her intelligence kept growing by the day making her a dear to all the teaching staff. Her intelligence was unmatched, a genius had been thrust upon the institution. Not long after that, she was granted a full academic scholarship. She graduated at the helm of her college class, and she inevitably got plenty of academic scholarships from the best Universities in her town. Her passion had always been pursuing a Bachelor's degree in the field of Law, and that's the course she was offered. Indeed, the world opens her doors to talents, and gives them the most comfortable of rooms and lives. From the walls, she had heard that Hormstall University was home to the finest boys in the town, and like every girl; she had an underlying attraction for the boy child coupled with fantasies. She opted for the latter University, for reasons therein stated. Indeed, the apple does not fall far from the tree; she was finding her way back to her early socialization life as a teenager, only that this time it was sugar coated with a bigger purpose. Her aunt loved her like her own child, owing to the fact that she was barren, and she took Jane shopping for school. She bought the latest trends in shoes and apparel. Every girl's dream is to be the ultimate queen in the land. Her reporting day coincided with the day her mother was to be picked from rehab. This meant a lot to her, and as a fact, tears of joy filled her eyes, and rolled down her cheeks that morning. Blessings had forced their way through her door and window, and emotion was making the best of them. They tasked themselves to pick up her mother first, and report to the University together to mark a milestone. Mary Pickett hugged her daughter in an affable manner, and she couldn't stop apologizing. Both of them were crying at this moment, and they had attracted so much attention. It was tempting for Heathrow not to join in, and she gave in to the thought. The hug lasted about ten minutes as the three went over and about expressing their hearts and emotions. They went out for lunch; the environment was extremely amiable that it was passed by all parties that Jane would report the next day. Jane broke the news of her academic endeavors to her mother, who overwhelmed with emotion, burst into joyful tears once again.

Jane's first day at school was a lonely one. There were plenty of new faces, and indeed handsome boys roamed the streets. She felt a little shy at first, but as days went by, she settled. One day, Jane woke up late and she was in such a hurry to go to class that she hardly followed through her morning routine. She had been out drinking the previous night with her new found friends. Her dress that day was transparent, and fair enough she had forgotten to wear a knicker. A rather confident boy called John walked up to her, and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hello, you look so good on the southern, i couldn't help but notice your butt cheeks smiling at me. Did you not wear a knicker on purpose? My name is John, how may i address a beauty like yourself." he amiably said.

She smiled back at him, and she was lost for words. Licking her lips, she replied, "my name is Jane, and i want you to help me out of here, handsome." This was followed by a light hearted giggle. Arm in arm, they left the room, and that's how Jane and John met, under such circumstances encompassing the art of passion, sexuality, and mystery. John seized the moment while everyone else looked on in contempt, a mistake they were to regret having made a few years to come.
