After logging in, he received the same mind-bending experience, before being placed into the character he had created named Shadow.
[System: Welcome back, Shadow]
After receiving the welcoming jingle of the system in the game, Axel was finally able to see and hear around him. His current location was within the city, on the streets as soon as one entered the city of Vain.
This was how the game worked, you would always log into the game exactly where you logged off, unless you died.
Axel took a quick glance at his inventory, and realised that he had the Unknown Skill book was still with him, and decided to directly head to Vain's library. While walking, he couldn't help but notice that there were plenty more players compared to the last time he had logged in. This meant that more people had bought the game.
Of course, any new fully-immersive VRMMORPG would be welcomed by the player community, especially one as well made as Evolution Online, but this would not cause players to leave the games where they were the strongest, or had dominated the game for a long time just to restart in a new cheap game.
Especially since 'Evolution Online' had yet to display any evolutions with regards to the players. Naturally, this was something that would be resolved as the payers reached level 10, but until then, the few players who joined the game would ridicule the game for their utterly nonsensical naming skills.
However, at the very least, the player base for this server should reach 1000 players on the nations of light on this server, from the current 600. The Nations of death should also have a similar amount.
This number would only receive a drastic change once Both Ray Holdings and the Ocean Group begin rapidly liquidating their physical assets to invest them into the game.
And another boost to almost the entire population of Earth, after the federation announces its policies.
"What can I help you with?"
Axel had already been here, however, someone had received the benefits of discovering a new place by then, and therefore, he did not receive anything from this place, and did not remember the name of the librarian or the receptionist.
"I would like to get this Skill book inspected" He said as he handed the book made from rather old paper, bound in animal skin.
"Mhm. That will be 50 copper" Said the receptionist as she took the book, and reached out her other hand, waiting for the coins.
Axel felt pained at the price, but it was fine. He had done this countless times in his previous life. The amount of wealth just wasted in inspecting skill books could basically buy him a few plots of land in a smaller city of Roland back in the future of his past life.
"Hmm"
The receptionist fiddled around with the book for a while, before placing her hand on the cover and murmuring some words.
Axel, grinned at this and began copying the words she was saying, softly. This was a trick he had heard about after wasting all that money on inspections.
As soon as she finished, a light shone on the book, and a system screen appeared above it.
[Silver Skill book: Intermediate Burn]
[Causes your attacks to carry the 'Burn' status effect; dealing 5 physical damage per second until the status effect is removed]
Although this was a really useful skill that Axel would definitely need in the future, he was more interested in another notification he just received.
[System: Congratulations Player Shadow, you have learned the unique skill Inspection]
[Inspection: With a cast time of 4 seconds, you can inspect the qualities of an item you are holding]
[System: You are the first player to learn a unique skill, you have gained +10 Fame in Roland, +10 Fame in Vain, +5 fame in all of the Land where the God of Light can reach]
Unique skills were different from passive, active, and profession skills, in the fact that they cannot be upgraded in any way. But just like passive skills, they do not have a limit. Normally, such skills could only be learned through long quest chains, just like passive skills, but there were a few that could be learned just like this one.
Inspection was different from the inspect used by players to see items while exploring in the fact that almost every item below sub-legendary would have all its information displayed to the user, and sub-legendary items would at least have their names displayed.
The normal inspect used by players could only be used on mobs, bosses, and certain items. For the rest, it would come as 'Unknown Dagger,' or 'Unknown plant'. This obviously excludes items that you have had inspected by someone else, or have bought from an NPC who told you what it is. Similar to the Daggers he bought from the NPC named Bard, who owned the beginner Archer equipment shop.
With this, he would no longer have to pay the 50 copper every time he wanted to inspect an object, nor would he have to find an NPC to do it for him. If he was too. Bored to do anything, he could even set up a shop to inspect items for players for 45 copper. This would earn him a lot of money, especially since there was no cooldown or cost for using the skill.
What was even better for him was that once enough people knew about this trick, the developers would patch it, just like the Persistent youngling title.
With a satisfied grin on his face, he accepted the inspected skill book and left the library.
