For the rest of the day, Vex surprisingly maintained his distance from Axel and Dan. Such strange behaviour caught Axel's attention, but he did not bother with it. If Vex intended on taking any form of revenge, he would not be able to do it in the near future, since the disciplinary committee and some teachers were likely keeping an eye on him.
"Alright then Dan, see you tomorrow."
"Cool. But be careful of Vex. I have a feeling he is going to take revenge for everything that happened today."
"Haha, don't worry dude. Everything is fine." After brushing off Dan's worries, Axel went to pick up Lily from her school, and then walked her home.
Only once he reached home did he finally realise something.
He needed money.
In order to exercise and improve his body, he needed to eat enough food, however, neither did he nor Lily have enough money to support such eating.
Evolution Online would allow him to earn large amounts of money in the future, however, that was a long-term plan, and he needed another method of earning credits, not in-game currency. At least for the next few months until his parents returned with enough money.
Since they had just returned home, Lily went to her room to play, while Axel, who also would have gone into his room, sat down on couch in the living room, and began thinking about possible methods to earn some quick credits.
But after nothing came to his mind, he decided to go and apply for a job as a delivery boy.
Although a large portion of the economy had been changed since the establishment of the federation, with most labour-intensive jobs being replaced by robots, the federation still made sure that there were plenty of jobs, especially for the young adults; the future of the federation.
Places like convenience stores, food delivery, and some other smaller business were intentionally isolated from robots, allowing for a minimum number of jobs to exist.
After coming to the decision, Axel opened up the internet on his mobile and looked up available jobs which suited his timings, and only after a few minutes, he found what he was looking for.
It was a deliver job for a sushi restaurant which had just opened a few months ago. It required him to know how to ride a cycle that they provided. It also required him to work between 3 and 5, for a 2-hour part-time shift, with 20 credits as the payment as long as he arrived on time, plus tips.
Seeing such a great offer, How could Axel refuse, and he immediately applied for it.
With this, he at the very least had a method of earning money, enough to buy some extra food for himself and Lily, without affecting his school or Evolution Online.
Since it was already past 5, and it was unlikely for the restaurant to be able to process his application instantly, Axel decided to go and finish his homework and getting in some excursive before making dinner for himself and Lily.
The homework was just some regular algebra maths that they had been given to complete. Since he had already studied all the courses for the next 7 years of his studies, all this work seemed like child's play for him.
It was a similar feeling when Lily would ask him for help in her studies, the faint feeling of having full understanding of what you are doing both in class and in the homework. UP until now, both Axel and the rest of his classmates relied on copying all information into their minds and then vomiting it out onto the tests and exams. Axel had a slight advantage in this aspect since he was really good at memorising.
But now, he knew everything, and understood everything. The change in perspective was similar to changing from a sailor following the orders of the captain and just focusing on one particular task on the ship, to becoming the captain of the ship, understanding the full situation in and out.
After exercise, Axel went ahead and took a quick shower before making dinner for himself and Lily. Just like he had promised, he brought back some cheap meat, and some other cooking ingredients he had not used since his parents passed away in his previous life, for a total of 10 credits.
For the current him, this was similar to 1/5th of his potential saving going down the drain for a single meal. But once he would get the job, this much would be more than acceptable for him. In fact, it was more likely that he would buy some more nutritious food for more credits, since 40 credits per day plus tips was almost triple of the monthly allowance he made.
"What's that smell brother?" Lily asked as she walked out of her room in her teddy-bear pyjamas which were already short for her.
A hint of sorrow flashed across Axel's eyes as he knew that she had not bought any knew clothes for a long time all because her useless brother did not get a job yet.
In reality, Axel had tried to get a job, but being this physically weak, not too many places would willingly hire him. Working at a convenience store was the only option he could have gone for with his old body, but the pay was so pathetically low compared to the hours he had to put in, it was almost worse than just doing nothing.
But now, Axel had KI with him. Delivering food should be pretty easy for him. At least that was what Axel told himself as he finished his food and washed Lily's and his own plates and utensils, before going to bed and logging into Evolution Online.
