Chapter 17 - Hinoyouna no Kagami

Yuria told Tezariah about what happened inside the mirror as they were walking towards home. She decided to tell Tezariah as after all, he claims to be a wizard and seems to have more knowledge about "abnormal" stuff. Tezariah's conjecture a while ago was slowly leading to a conclusion. He shared what he knew about the "Emperor and the Imperial Army" to Yuria which shocked her.

The Emperor... A demigod who began to rise a thousand years before Tezariah. He was powerful and vicious. He boldly claimed himself "Emperor beneath the heavens" and started conquering worlds. In the end he was hit by a god and was deeply wounded. The wound festered and the emperor up to now was in a state unable to move forward, only backwards. Thus he commanded his Imperial Army to search for a cure. This led to slaughter in different worlds.

Soon enough the search led to two things. The heart of a god, and replacement demigod body. Both of which were hard to find. Up until now, the Imperial Army is still searching for these to no avail.

Deriving from Yuria's story, he began to fit the pieces of the puzzle. Although he arrived at a certain truth, he would not tell Yuria about it until after they get that "thing". After all, he didn't want to raise a false alarm.

They decided to get that thing tomorrow as it was already 9PM. She also started to plan buying gifts tomorrow so it would be killing to birds in one stone type of thing.

Tezariah felt that tomorrow would be a dangerous day and thus, he decided to prepare as much tonight as possible. After all this "Imperial Army" is something he knew off pretty well and he was sure they were up to no good. These bastard were well commended for their loyalty but not their morality. One could say they "despicably loyal" to their Emperor.

The next morning...

Tezariah and Yuria left after eating. Luck for them the temple was not that far from their home and was within walking distance. They talked about what the "thing" could be or what could happen afterwards. Tezariah replied carefully avoiding the topic of Yuria's mother as it might cause Yuria to get a bit emotional.

Arriving in front of an old, abandoned temple, they first rested for a few minutes. As for Tezariah, the moment he used mana on his eyes at the temple, an aura of fire filled him preventing him from looking. Although he could forcefully do it, it could cause damage to him and it was not worth it.

Yuria and Tezariah walked around until they reached the main hall of the temple. Yuria reminisced how the place looked before. She scrambled her brain as much as she could. Finally only one memory seemed to stand out; the former statue of Amaterasu that laid in a small shrine at the back of the temple.

...

They arrived at the small shrine which had a statue of Amaterasu that was well-preserved. It was like this place was eternally in this condition. Yuria looked at the statue and around it to find clues. Meanwhile, Tezariah checked by spreading his mana all around. Sadly for Tezariah though, the aura of flame in the area scorched his mana before it could even reach an inch. This both shocked and frustrated Tezariah. One could say that Tezariah's mana purity was one of the highest and was hard to destroy, and yet here he could even send out his aura beyond an inch. Thus Tezariah resorted to manual searching along with Yuria.

After hours of looking both of them felt tired. They got nothing and nowhere. The only clue they had was Yuria's memory and it led to here, so it shouldn't be wrong.

As Yuria sat down on the ground in front of the shrine, she felt a sting on her hands. When raised her hands there was a small wound the size of a snake bite on both hands. A few seconds later, the ground became very hot. It was hot enough that one could see the ground burn at a visible rate. Slowly a mirror revealed itself from the scorched ground.

The mirror was bright red and had no handle. It looked like an ancient version of a mirror. While one side was a clear mirror, the back was a bright red designs with Japanese symbols in the middle.

"Hinoyouna no Kagami" Yuria read the words. She told Tezariah what it translated into which means "blazing mirror" in short. Tezariah looked at the mirror and a clear god's aura came from it. This was clearly another god's relic.

When Yuria placed his face at the mirror, it seemingly woke up from slumber. The mirror's aura intensified wrapping Yuria within a few seconds Yuria felt the connection with the mirror. She began to witness the eternities of life and finally the spirit of the mirror. After waking up, she looked drained but happy.

On the other hand, Tezariah felt a bit of envy as he knew Yuria has been recognized as the owner of the mirror. He never thought that the "thing" she was suppose to get was a god's relic. This flow of events finally made Tezariah's conjecture about her mother's identity solid.

The happiness in Yuria's face finally calmed down as she looked at the mirror which shined in response. As they walked down the Tezariah confronted Yuria.

"I think I know what your mother was." Tezariah said. Yuria looked at Tezariah waiting for the answer.

"She is a god." Tezariah said solemnly.

"Oh that. I know that. The mirror told me." Yuria replied.

"That means you are a demigod."

"And...?"

"That means you are in grave danger if you met the Imperial Army. The reason why she told you not to trust the "Emperor and the Imperial Army" was because you are a demigod. In fact, you are the weakest demigod I know." Tezariah snickered from his last statement. He then proceeded to explain the events that led to the infamous Emperor's edict. Yuria's face turned sour, angry then sad as the story progressed.

She finally knew why her mother acted the way she is but still. Yuria finally came to a conclusion...

"Tezariah, teach me." A passion started in her eyes. Soon these eyes would burn every enemy it would meet. That would a story for the future.
