Chapter 20 - Contract (2)

Tezariah once again prepared the materials needed. Luckily this one was less complicated in terms of materials that the last. All he needed was special black powder, ether and a drip of his blood.

Albeit still shocked from appearance of an Angel, Yuria was slowly recovering from it. Yuria steeled herself for this second one especially since this was a Demon they were talking about. Who knows what the demon would do! She warily watched as Tezariah made another magic circle.

After what felt like hours but were just really minutes, Tezariah finished the magic circle made of black powder and ether. All that was left was to drip his blood essence. He took a knife from his spatial storage and slashed it at his wrist. Normally a knife would not cause a big wound to him but since he needed blood, he retracted the aura protecting him. Blood dripped into the black powder as he slowly walked around the circle. Yuria could visibly see the blood mixing with the black powder like it was devouring it. After finishing two rounds, Tezariah stood and started chanting.

The once holy aura permeating from the area started to become desolate, dark and demonic. Spatial cracks started to appear as if even the space was being destroyed. The place started to rumble. The rumbling continued for a minute then stopped as the magic circle lighted up. After it lighted up, although the rumbling stopped, the spatial cracks became more violent and volatile. Luckily, the cracks only appeared near the magic circle therefore it didn't reach Yuria. On the other hand, Tezariah was defending from it while chanting neither losing concentration on both ends. One word wrong and the whole thing fails, on the other hand, just a few mana off from his aura and the spatial cracks will start to affect him.

Finally, a giant wolf-furred demon appeared. His gaze was looking down. That very gaze brought the feeling of destruction without salvation. Even Tezariah felt a tinge of fear. Luckily he knew what his limits were and summon a demon relative to his limit. In this way it would slowly amalgamate and push himself to become stronger.

"I am Agares! 7th Demon of the Destruction Domain of Hell!" His voice held a terrifying effect that unnerved Yuria. For the first time in her life, she felt like all hope was lost. It was an innate feeling that rose up as she heard the demon speak. Meanwhile, Tezariah looked solemn. He looked back at the demon.

To understand things, Like the 18 Palaces of Heaven, Hell also had 18 domains. Unlike angels, they rely on power to subduing power to determine their ranks. Each domain would have a Lord. Only the strongest of these demons could be called a Lord because not only does the Lord represent the domain, only the Lord has the right to use the power of their domain to their will. The Lord could also leverage their domain to increase their divinity and thus become closer to gods.

Each domain has hundreds of thousands of demons in it which compete for strength. The weak becomes slaves while the strong becomes masters. Of these, the top 100 were considered royalty. Aside from the Lord, the nine in the top 10 were considered dukes and had the right to administrate a portion of the domain. Thus one could say that the Lord was like the king of the domain while the other 9 where just administrators of the domain. From this, one could see how powerful Agares is. One must also considered that of the 18 Domains, the Domain of Destruction ranked 3rd.

Back at the factory...

"Wha- Ack stop Ahh!" Before the demon could speak once again. Tezariah brought out a club he specially prepared for this occasion. This club was one of his original creations back in his world, The Demon Subduing Club, or as he called it, "I'll Beat You Up If You Don't Sign the Contract". He started to bash the Demon who felt his strength weaken. The demon couldn't muster any power due to this weird club...

An hour... Two hours... Three hours...

Even Yuria who was watching at the sidelines was starting to feel pity for this demon. The demon that was once majestic is now gone and was replaced by a beaten and bruised wolf. His face was in worse condition as it swelled to the point it would pop any second.

"Will you sign the contract!?" Tezariah asked. The demon whimpered and nodded. Immediately Tezariah took out a contract and the demon dripped its blood on it. This time the contract was finished and the demon turned into a speck of dust and turned into another tattoo, this time on Tezariah's left shoulder.

Yuria then stood up and asked Tezariah why did he beat up the Demon. Tezariah looked at him with tired eyes and started to explain. The reason he beat up the Demon was not only to subdue it to make contracting easier, it also prevented them from going into mind games. Unlike Angels, Demons are trickier to sign contracts with because they constantly want to devour their contractors. Thus they "intelligently" cause changes in their contracts which becomes a back and forth between the demon and the contractor. This negotiation usually ends with the contractor losing something rather than gaining anything unless they outsmart the Demon. Tezariah didn't want to do such tedious mind games.

Another reason was Demon's respected strength thus he had to show his dominance to prevent the Demon from asking for more. Luckily, when it comes to loyalty, Demons are more loyal to their contractors than Angels. One could say that demons could even betray their own race without remorse or fight the Lord of their domain for their contractors... That is if you could make them sign that contract.

Lastly, the reason why he chose the 7th and not the Lord or anyone stronger. Although the Demon Subduing Club is lethal to demons, it needed to hit its target. Thus if the Demon is levels stronger that the user, it just becomes a useless club that a demon could dodge. Furthermore, the aura of a stronger demon could just cause a person to be scared witless. Thus after calculating his strength compared to demons, Tezariah decided on the 7th ranked Destruction Demon. This increased the strength of Destructive Fire of his skill.

....

It was 12MN. Tezariah felt good as they went back home. This time even before reaching the door of his bed, he collapsed and sleep on the floor. Meanwhile Yuria felt excited. The world in which her mother revolved in was far more interesting that mundane life she led. This increased her passion to learn the Way of Might and finally meet her mother. After changing clothes and wiping her face, she went to bed.

Unknown to her... A burning wisp was watching her.
