Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

Trinity Grove sat under the mango tree by the lake near her house. The crystal clear water shone as the sun shot its light on it and the cool breeze carried the beautiful scent of flowers towards her nose, but she was too deep in her own thoughts to notice, or even care. All she knew was that something was wrong. something was out of place. something was wrong with her.

She was seventeen years old, and life was amazing. She is the eldest daughter, more like only daughter of a famous neurosurgeon, Dorine Croven, and the half sister of famous Tuneup2u star, Derek Croven, who was younger than her. Tuneup2u was an app that allowed people to create their own music videos, with the help of old famous song tunes. something like tiktok, but for music. In this app, you basically have the right to steal tunes of once famous songs to create your own and then release it and collect fans. The more fans you have, the more famous you get.

Her stepfather, Patrick Croven, was a famous lawyer. He ran his own law firm, PatC solicitors. He had Craven Falls rich and famous people as his clients.

Craven Falls is the name of the town she lives in. It's so big, she's shocked it hasn't been declared a city yet. It has everything you will ever want; from shopping centres to theatres, from small houses to huge buildings, you name it, they had it. it even has it's own night club, and disco.

She, on the other hand was just a simple girl who wasn't famous, and felt distant from her family. she always felt like she didn't belong there. There was an emptiness inside her that she just couldn't fill. Her mother had suggested trying yoga and meditation, which of course failed to give her any comfort. This place had become her safe haven, the only place that bought her a little peace and for a few minutes, she felt like this place somehow comforted her. Like this place understood her feelings, more than the woman who gave birth to her.

The sound of the shimmering water, the smell of the grass that had the disappearing dew, the crunch of the dead leaves under her, the aromatic stink of the tree and the strange melody the wind sang. All this was fascinating. But today she didn't feel comforted. It was like she was an empty barrel, which had been dropped there and was totally neglected.

She lay down on the mat, leaning her head on the root of the tree that gave her shade from the scorching rays of the sun. She closed her eyes. She remembered her fathers last words to her, before she was forced to move in with her mother and her than boyfriend, after their divorce. "Trin, honey, as you grow up, you will feel lonely. You will have questions that no one will be able to answer. When this happens I will always be a phone call away." She was just seven years old that time. She clearly remembered her fathers features, deep brown eyes, tall, fair complexion, deep voice, brownish black hair.. she always wondered what her mother saw in Patrick that made her divorce her father, Triyast Grove. Her father was way more handsome than him. The only thing good about Patrick was his blue eyes, and probably his bank account. He was short, with blonde hair, small eyes, flat face and his temper was shorter than his height.

The once melodious songs of the birds on the branches above her today seemed so annoying. A silent tear ran down her cheekbone, right to hair, toward her ear. She wiped it off with the back of her hand. Why hadn't he called her? He knew she would go through this.. but .. still? What if he was dead? all these questions ran through Trinity's head. She sat up straight and dried her eyes. She cannot just become weak. ''I have to be strong. I have to find out what's wrong with me.'' She said aloud, as if that would help her feel better.

Just than her phone vibrated. She saw 'mom' word appear on the screen. She picked it up and swiped the ok button that was jumping up and down the screen, and put it to her ear. "Yeah mom?".

"Rin, where are you?" She asked almost hurriedly.

"M by the lake,'' I said, getting up. ''why?''

''Don't tell me you forgot about the party at Mr Daysons place.''

Trinity slapped her forehead with the palm of her free hand. ''Sor...'' ''Pat will be here it an hour to pick us up, so hurry and come get ready,'' her mom cut her sentence short.

''But mom...'' The line went dead.

This happened on almost a daily basis. meetings, parties, parties meetings. That was about it. They never had a family time together. Not ever. Her mother was always busy at the hospital and when she returned home, she was either too tired to talk, or busy getting ready for parties. Patrick on the other hand, she hadn't seen him for like ages. He returns home late every day, and gone early. And if they happen to bump into each other, his always on the phone, or laptop.

She was always looked after by her nanny, Martha, and now that she has grow up, she has to look after Derek. As for Martha, well she resigned, and left. Their house maid, Annabelle did all the housework, from sweeping to cleaning to cooking. you name any work inside the house, she does it. Simon was in charge of everything outside, which included gardening, repairs, painting and so on.

She dragged herself the 100 metres to her house, more like mansion or bungalow.

"Mom, I've to talk with you," Trinity said as she entered the large living room. Dorin was already wearing a beautiful black dress with as open back and a slit that ran upwards from her right ankle to her thigh. She was busy putting on her left earring.

"Yes?".

"I don't want to go, I have to start my shift at 7pm," Trinity said with a shrug.

Her mother paused everything she was doing and turned to look at her. All the glimmer of her face turned to a warning look. "Your father will be here in less than an hour to pick us up, all three of us. If you don't get ready, you know what I'll do!" She said in a tone that made her flinch.

"Arghhhh."
