Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 The Hunt Begins - 1

Any failure on grade F and G tasks would result in the suspension of a license to hunt for 3 – 4 days. Any tasks above F needed grades that matched the task or teams of 4 with one level lower. Raj could only attempt F or G grade tasks, to attempt grade E tasks he would need to get a team of four or more grade Fs.

He looked at all the tasks and filtered the tasks that needed his surveillance skills. They would be ones that would be the easiest and also the best test for his new abilities.

Among them he spotted the most profitable task. This task needed him to travel for about 30 minutes to the nearest suburb.

The task read

"Need to spot all the nests of raven's within a 2-mile radius from the hotspot. For each nest spotted will given 100 credits. At least 5 nests will need to tagged on the map and submitted to the contagion response team."

It was a simple task, one that would have been impossible if he did not have the upgraded powers. He had done something similar before when he was using his drones this morning to do a sweep around his house. The task would be simple.

The only difficulty of the task was that the mutated Ravens were very fast. They were very territorial to any intruders.

The drones, even with size being that of a mosquito would be under threat from the sharp-eyed Ravens. He had a plan to test when he reached the destination. He received a beep confirming the task acceptance. He started heading towards the destination.

He made his way to meet the contact. The task mentioned Roger was the contact responsible for validating the task. Raj stopped at the door and knocked twice.

A burly man about 6 feet 5 inches made his way to the door blocking it. He looked at Raj's slight physique and scoffed "Are you lost pipsqueak?"

Raj frowned and said "I am here to report on the task for locating the Ravens. I will also give you their GPS coordinates. Are you Roger?"

The Burly man looked at him again and said with a sigh "I am Roger, looks like the reward is not enough on the task. I will be honest with you, you look like a lost child. Ravens are dangerous and once they spot you to shred you to pieces. I wanted someone who could make a quick getaway after spotting them."

Roger continued "Can you fly faster than Mach 1 speeds? Can you camouflage at least? You will have a hard time tagging them without getting killed. Looking at your physique I doubt you can do any of these. I will give you a chance, give me the coordinates of the nearest nest. I will confirm with the extermination team and I will keep you."

"Don't worry, I will get the job done. You can confirm if you want me for the job then." replied Raj. Raj felt warm at the burly man's concern. He then made way to sit on the side of the house.

He nodded and gathered some skin cells on the back of his neck. The Syn Cells (synthetic cells) gathered in a small heap. He recalled mosquito size drones. Like obedient children each of the drones, they landed on his neck. The Syn cells coated them. Once the 10 drones got coated they flew in a formation and then split off into different directions.

They became transparent as the cells on them started refracting light away from the drones. 10 invisible silent drones flew around the house in an expanding circle trying to spot Raven nests in the trees.

He had visual on the first nest in less than 5 minutes. Raj noted the GPS coordinates on his phone and showed them to Roger along with the live feed of the nest.

Roger's mouth flapped like a fish gasping for air before responding "Little brother are you working for the military? This job is too simple for satellite imaging, please forgive this elder brother for doubting your capabilities."

The drones were so small and his skin cells turned them transparent. Roger assumed that Raj was accessing direct satellite feed of the region. It was like using a grenade launcher to kill an ant.

Raj laughed and explained "No elder brother Roger, I am using drone technology to tag the nests. My drones are much smaller and better at camouflage than the commercial ones since I use nanites to build them."

This only made Roger look at him with respect. Roger said "Raj if you can spot all the nests within the 2-mile radius I will give you 200 credits per nest. I would rather pay you more and get the task done today than keep the Contagion response team for another day. They are so expensive."

This made Raj excited. Nodding at Roger, he initiated the basic map function on the phone. He acted as if he was entering various parameters while letting his drones continue the search and report back.
