Over a week or two later, after Izzie gets home from vacation, she texts me and asks to go on a run with me. I jump out of bed and get ready. I put on some nicer running clothes than I usually wear and I fix my hair. My dad walks over. "What are you doing? You're getting pretty for a run?" He asks. "Nothing. Shut up." My voice cracks, and I run downstairs. I'm met with Izzie, and we start running. "It's so good to be back. I love my uncle and aunt, and Florida is nice, but after a while I don't love them that much, and Florida isn't as nice." I laugh. I missed her while she was on vacation. And now that it's summer I see her less. "I feel like I haven't seen you in forever." I say. "I know. Since Slurpee night." Izzie says, as she looks at me. "Yeah, Slurpee night." I reply, remembering how good her hand felt in mine. "That was fun." I say. "So fun. I'm so glad to have a friend like you. I haven't had a best girlfriend since I was little. It's nice, easy." She says. The word friend hurts a little. "Yeah. Easy, totally easy." I reply. We run for a while longer before we depart. That whole conversation we had was weird and kind of awkward. Now I'm even more confused than before. Did she forget that we held hands and almost kissed? Are we just friends?
