Chapter 3 - Warmth

The next day I feel like shit. The hangover I have is massive. I go to my locker to put my stuff in it, and I see Izzie standing there. "There you are. I need you." Izzie says. I smile. We went from enemies to friends really quickly. "My mom's loser ex-boyfriend just moved back in." She says, as she puts on some lipstick. She hands me the lipstick and I draw a smiley face on my hand. She laughs. "So, what's up with you?" She asks. "We thought my dad had a heart attack, turns out it was just a panic attack, caused by my mom being a tramp." I tell her. "It's a miracle the two of us are still alive." When she says this, she slightly pushes me into the locker playfully. I feel the warmth from her hands and it makes me get goosebumps. She quickly takes her hands away from my shoulders when Nate walks over. "You know, I knew you too were gonna fall in love." He says. We both smile at each other and chuckle. "If you guys ever hook up, don't forget to include me." I stick my middle finger out at him jokingly, and Izzie puts her arm around me. "Yeah, okay." She says, laughing. We walk away from him together with her arm around me.

I see Izzie later after lunch. She's sitting very closely to Nate, with their fingers entwined. I don't know why, but my stomach starts to hurt. "I'm still starving. Franky talked me into ordering the Quinoa bowl. I feel like I just ate two pounds of air." They both laugh. "You should've ordered a pizza." Izzie tells me. "The pizza here tastes like a stale cracker with ketchup on it." Izzie smiles. "Wow. I think we finally found something Newton's a snob about." She tells Nate. "I'm spoiled. Our pizza place Don's is the best." I get even more hungry just thinking about their delicious pizza. "Then maybe we should go there." Izzie says. Oh no. I don't want them to see the shitty town that I live in, at least compared to the fancy places they probably live in, it's shit. "No-no maybe we shouldn't." I stutter. "Friday after practice, I'll tell the team." She wants the team to go? I'm going to be so embarrassed. "Well, Friday it gets a little crowded because of all the families there. So maybe another time, or never?" I say, still stuttering. "No, Friday works. I'm excited to see where Newton comes from. Nate says, as he gets up. I only like when Izzie calls me Newton for some reason, it makes me annoyed when he says it. "It'll be fun. Or sad. Either way, I'm gonna get breadsticks." Izzie says, as she gets up too. "I once saw a rat there!" I yell to Izzie as she walks away. I don't think she heard me. "No I didn't." I say out loud to myself.
