Chapter 2 - New Life

"It's a boy!"

The first words he ever heard, although his mind quickly forgot them. As the strange person bounced him on her knee, he took in the sights. She seemed to be a middle aged woman with brown and graying hair. She hummed some abstract tune he wasn't really listening to, and he slowly turned his chubby baby head to see other things.

The first thing he noticed was a mother on a bed, blood staining some of the sheets, as she was crying. She looked to be in her mid 20's, with blonde hair and shockingly blue eyes. Although tears ran down her cheeks, she never once looked away from him.

Standing next to her, was a man of similar age. He too had blonde hair, but his eyes were as green as hers were blue. He was leaning on the back post for the beds headboard, a gleam of pride in his eyes as he mimicked his wife's fascination with the newborn.

Before he knew what he was doing, the child giggled and cooed while reaching out towards the man. The nursemaid, seeing this, quickly sat up and gave the bundle of cloth the child was in to the man. As he cradled and bounced the baby in his arms, he looked down on him and softly spoke.

"Welcome to the Kingdom of Roite, little one. You will grow up here strong, and will change the face of the planet. This I know, little Ojero Guestino."

Soon after, Ojero was taken home by his parents in a strange wooden box on wheels, pulled by a strange four legged creature. While they were getting in, his weak mother leaned down and whispered to him that this was a carriage and they were horses.

Soon they arrived home, and what a home it was. It was 3 stories tall, the third being a very large attic with 2 guest rooms and a small kitchen. It was painted white and gold, with tall pillars of marble holding up the front of it and the 3 balconies of the second floor bedrooms.

The front door was huge, and fit the gold and white theme. On it was a strange crest of a yellow lion, roaring into the sky. As the carriage drove down the front cobbled drive, they went around the fountain before stopping parallel to the door.

An older man with only gray hairs in a frilly white suit with gold trim went to the door of the carriage, opening it with his white gloved hands. He bowed down as he helped out Ojero's mother and father with his hand, before closing the carriage door.

As the family approached the front door, another similarly dressed man opened it, but this one was significantly younger and had dark brown hair upon his head. He too bowed for the couple and led them to their bedroom.

As they walked, Ojero could barely peek over his blanket as he took in all of the manors splendor. Gold and white covered everything, as display cases and cabinets were arranged down the gold carpeted halls.

In these cases were old swords, shields, and other weapons, and the occasional painting accompanied them on the wall, detailing heroic battles with generals and knights in shining armor. The one thing Ojero noticed more than everything else, was the strange man they were facing, who in his hand held a ball of wind as lightning thundered down upon the knights.

Soon, they arrived at the room and the servant quickly left after opening the door for them. Inside, the room was massive, holding a great king sized bed. The color scheme was the same, and here too were paintings. What set it apart was the display case directly across from the foot of the bed, and in it was a yellow crystal that seemed to have a storm brewing inside it.

Ojero kept looking at the strange piece of display, but being a child he lost interest just as fast. He cooed as his mother twiddled her fingers over his head, and his father chuckled to himself. The family was content with their son, and soon a middle aged woman with brown hair came and took him down the hall to a new room, this one being much smaller.

In it was a cradle with animals carved over it, attached to a string. This was perhaps the first room in the house that wasn't just white and gold, this one having bright blue walls. On the floor were children's books and toys, and the woman gently laid him into the soft blankets, fluffed into the cradle.

Before he knew it, his tired baby body was sleeping soundly, as his first day went by just like that.
