Chapter 5 - The Crystal Status Part 2

"While the rarity system is used to determine how often or rare a power is, the strength status is shorter but often times more valuable to potential academies and those looking for magical help."

"Usually the strength status follows in line with the rarity system, the only exception being ultra rare. We do not know why, but the rarer an ability is, usually the more powerful it is."

"Within the strength status is 11 tiers, apprentice, novice, adept, journeyman, magus, high magus, supreme magus, lord magus, arch magus, mythical magus, and the 11th tier which is god magus. God magus is not an official tier, since the only ones on that level are the gods."

"Below that, there is only supreme magus in the kingdom. There is tell that the Everentile Empire to the far North has a single mythical magus, and he is only the second mythical magus I have ever even heard of, the other being Thyrus the Necromancer, which the 9th month is named after."

"When you awaken your crystal, or crystals, awaken being the official term for when you gain them on Magi Day, your crystals will have a specific limit to how strong they can get. Your crystals are built on 5 tiers, which is every second tier of the strength ranking."

"Due to this, the tiers are novice, journeyman, high magus, arch magus, and mythical magus. These ranks signify the highest level a crystal can go to. The higher the tier, the rarer it is. For example, if someone had the fire lord ability but only had a novice level crystal, then they will only ever be able to hit the novice level of strength with that crystal. However, if someone with minor fire had a mythical level crystal their strength may even rival that of the novice fire lord in some extreme circumstances, this is of course under the assumption someone with a minor fire strength could even live long enough to actually make use of their crystals power limit."

"As high nobles, we do not have to worry about awakening a crystal at any level lower than high magus. Although, do not misunderstand my words. Just because your crystal is high magus or above does not mean you are guaranteed strength. All crystals only have an apprentice level strength at the beginning, the awaken tiers only represent their potential through training and trials."

"Well now, that should be all about that you need to know about the Crystal Status for now. If I think of anything in the future, I will attempt to mention it if possible. Now boys, are you ready? We must make an appearance at the festival. We will of course be attending the one in Litenvail city, our kingdoms glorious capital. We will have to great the commoners, and show our support to their endeavors, and then head to the High Temple for your awakenings."

At this, mother chimed in with her usual words of wisdom. Although she does not talk much, her mind is sharper than any sword in their dukedoms armories, and father claims faster than even his strongest lightning bolt.

"Remember, today determines the rest of your life. Academies will choose those with both rare crystals and a good level on the awakening tiers, but never forget; attitude and respect also show a level of maturity that they shall value. Remember this, and you may gain a chance at a more prestigious school."

"What are you talking about," father piped in, "my sons will assuredly go to Lumenbecs Academy, where I went and our forefathers went before me. It is the most prestigious school in the kingdom after all."

Father said all this while puffing out his chest, his blonde hair suddenly waving back as the wind whistled through his clothes, making him appear as some sort of majestic hero.

"Honey, you know the rules. No magic at the table."

The wind suddenly died as a dejected look went across fathers face, and Orpham couldn't stop chuckling at this scene.

Ojero almost laughed too, until the mention of a "hero" was done. For some reason, that word and a few similar to it always ruined his mood. He wasn't like Orpham, who loved every idea of heroics and valor, who seeks the glory of being a savior. Ojero found more happiness in the idea of taking what you claim, growing your strength, and making it so that you rule over all weaker than yourself.

He, of course, never mentions this to his parents. He may be young, but he is not naive enough to think this thought process is welcome in this kingdom.

Instead, Ojero puts on his best act and laughs along a moment later.

As they just finished chuckling, an older servant came in. He had little hair on his head, but his white mustache was always a welcome sight to Ojero. This man was the head of Ojeros youth learning. Ever since Ojero was 4, his parents assigned this man to teach him about geography, politics, how to read and write, basic economics, military strategy, and a detailed history of the kingdom and continent.

This man had a name: Vulkupa Guestino.

He was the half brother of Quasar Guestino, Ojero's father. According to father, grandpa unwillingly had a child with a servant who used emotional magic on him, which he didn't even know she could do.

The servant fled the castle after that, and was never seen again. 9 months later, a child in a basket was found at the castle gates with a note claiming him to be grandfathers son, which a quick test with blood magic (Legendary tier) confirmed.

Grandfather took him in and raised him as his own, and although as a half child could not be the heir, he was instead to teach the future Guestinos.

Over a decade later Grandfather had Quasar, who had Ojero. Ojero was always a little brighter than most, and so Vulkupa Guestino became his mentor and, if he may be so bold, friend.

"My good lords and lady, the carriage is ready."

"Vulkupa," father scolded, "how many times do we tell you to refer to us by our names? Half brother or not, you are still family. Agh, why do I even bother any more? We shall be out shortly. Please allow a heater boy to use his magic to warm up the carriage, I hear the weather has gone almost freezing on the way to the capital."

"Of course, my lord."

Vulkupa exited the room, as everyone politely excused themselves from the table to do last minute preparations.

Not ten minutes later, they were all outside and boarding the carriage. The four would be going with 4 guards, each at the journeyman level of magic so to protect them, although many thought it useless since father was almost a high magus himself.

A moment later, they set off towards Litenvail city
