Kip's eyes stung slightly from the light right above him. His mouth tasted like cinnamon. Ah rip the bet, shoot. This funny taste must be whatever concoction Kyle had come up with. He flicked his tongue a bit in annoyance.
"Finally awake are you?"
Kip glanced to the side to see Kyle leisurely looking up form a book. He shot him a glare as Kyle looked back at the book.
"Seems you have a bit of a resistance but you end up sleeping longer. You should be careful that can be a dangerous side effect, especially if you live in the open zone."
"Don't care" muttered Kip rising off the pad he was on. The room looked like a hospital operating room which immediately made him feel unnerved. Just what did this guy do while he was out? He clutched the side of the padded bed table thing as his head spun a little.
"And where are you going?" asked Kyle.
"Home" he replied sulkily.
"Nope, the deal was you stay a few nights here while I check for any side effects. This is the first time I've used that potion on a non-mage." Kyle replied.
Oh great so I'm his lab rat. Thought Kip. Still he tried to always keep his word, even if he hated it. If he was awake now it wasn't like he could do much of anything else to him without his permission first. Ah rip his legs felt a little like jelly, curses!
Kyle continued nonchalantly "There is a spare bedroom to the left of this room. You can stay their till Saturday. Then I'll drive you back home."
"Fine" muttered Kip he didn't say anything else and instead headed to the other room. He didn't much like doctors, way too many poky objects. He felt way more relaxed once he was out of that room.
The spare room was surprisingly nice. He'd almost forgotten how ridiculously big their place was. He felt a slight twinge of gratitude seeing that the room had been made up for him. There was even a little basket with a towel, shampoo, water bottle, and other things in it. For some reason it felt like a hotel from the old days.
He shoved the memory from his mind before any thoughts came back. Even if the room was nice he was still a lab rat for this guy. He examined every part of the room looking for anything suspicious. Cameras, recorders, anything, when he found nothing he felt relieved and slightly guilty for doubting his hosts.
They seemed nice, but trust was hard to earn. A bathroom with running water, the safe zone really did have some advantages. He quickly showered and checked himself for anything suspicious the guy might have done to him. Nothing, well let's see how he felt after a half week with him.
He was just finishing putting his clothes on when there was a knock at the door. "Dinner will be ready in 5 minutes if you want to join us. If not I can just bring you some later." The small blonde's voice. Co, Colby, no wait Code was it?
Dinner huh? I wonder if they have any fried wolf legs? His mouth watered a little. As soon as food was mentioned he felt hunger strike his body but he'd also rather avoid them as much as possible. They were the idiots running in the open zone and attracting monsters. He just somehow got dragged into their messes.
After seven minutes his hunger won him over. Just how long was he unconscious for anyway? He hesitantly made his way down the stairs pausing by what he thought was the kitchen or dining room.
If he just ran now how far could he get? He could just make himself a new home area and not be bothered by them anymore.
A delicious smell wavered out of the room. Shoot food sounded delicious. He slowly cracked open the door and peered in.
"Oh hey you came down!" the little blond was way too excited.
"Don't scare him Cody" muttered the dark haired one.
Ah Cody right he should try to remember that if he was staying here a few days. Maybe.
"I'm not scaring him." Muttered Cody back, "right?" he turned to Kip as if to confirm the matter. Kip shrugged and started examining the décor of the room while trying to avoid staring at the food like an ingrate.
"Hey Cody, Connor, foods going to get cold if you take forever!" Kip heard Kyle's voice from an adjoining room. So Connor was the darker haired smaller version of Kyle then. Good to know.
"Come on!" said Cody as he picked up a tray of rolls and stuffed a few in a basket then headed to the other room. Kip cautiously followed. No one should be that excited to have a stranger in their house. He came to the conclusion that Cody must be a strange one.
Kyle was setting up some plates with food. "Oh you did decide to join us then?" he reached over to a nearby counter and pulled off an extra plate. Why did his slight smile make Kip feel so much more welcome? Utter nonsense, if he wasn't half starved he wouldn't be here.
