Chapter 48 - Kyle

Kyle wasn't sure he had made a good choice when he used psychology to get Kip to go to the guild for a week without realizing it until it was too late. It'd probably make him hate Kyle. Wait was that even a problem? Who cares.

Kyle turned on the news trying to ignore some sense of guilt. Weather, random monster incidents, oh a possible rank 15 appears in South Carolina? They had started using 15 to rank monsters they couldn't get a solid reading on. Well as long as it didn't end up in Florida. Game show, huh those were still a thing? Darn why couldn't he get Kip off his mind!

Maybe he should go see how he was adjusting to guild life. With luck in a week he'd become a sensible human and just pick a dangerous job within the safe zone instead of a suicidal one outside. He fidgeted around for a bit longer before leaving for the guild hall. It had been four days since he talked him into it.

When he arrived he was a little surprised. Kip seemed popular even with his terrible attitude. He had a group of other new recruits following him around despite his efforts to leave them behind. One wrapped an arm around his neck like they were best buddies. Kyle didn't like that. Why though? He wasn't sure but he wanted to shove the other guy away from Kip.

Kip looked up at his arrival "Well if it isn't the trickster." He muttered hints of distain on his face.

"Idiot" he muttered back "you learn any common sense while here yet?"

"Common sense says I should leave" he retorted.

"Whatever I didn't come to see you." Kyle replied going inside the guild hall to find James. He could totally just ask him how Kip was doing.

Kip shot a glare at him which he ended up catching as he turned a corner. If he didn't feel somewhat responsible for his well being, only because he was a healer, he would have never bothered. He found James talking with some of his rank A hunters.

"Greetings" he said with a nod.

James finished their discussion and turned to Kyle, "did you hear about the Yak beast?"

"The one in South Carolina?"

"Yeah apparently the footage is from a few days ago though and it's headed south." James said.

"How far?"

"It's not our problem yet but if it gets much further our groups will get called in. It is almost to Florida." James replied.

"Great, and I was looking forward to a nice week." Kyle muttered sarcastically.

"Well just thought I'd give you a heads up. If it gets to Florida I plan to mobilize my top ranking unit and ask Kip to come as well."

"Wait why Kip?" asked Kyle for some reason feeling worried.

"Have you seen him? He's on par with the best even without an element. He's a freakin genius! If he wrote up training plans for non-element mages he's be rich." James replied.

Kyle felt a twinge in his gut, he wanted Kip to stay safer by coming to the guild not end up with unrankable beasts!

"Anyway Kip seemed excited to fight when I mentioned it earlier so I don't think it's a problem" James said.

Kyle bit his lip but left the conversation at that. "Make sure you tell us if you end up deploying." He finally muttered.

He found a window after leaving James in his office. From here he could see Kip fighting against other mages with only a wooden stick. A smirk crossed his lips as he saw him win time and time again crushing his participants' egos.

Well it seemed like he was doing fine, other circumstances excluded. The guy even had a smile on his face. Yep just a stupid idiot who loved to fight and would probably be dead in the near future. Totally not worth Kyle's time or interest. So then why did he keep coming back to him?

Ugh he stomped out of the guild hall and went to find his brother. Maybe he and Cody were up to something interesting that could put his mind back on track.

Usually he wouldn't bother to travel with magic, his magic energy would wear out to fast, but today he made an exception. Wind curled around his feet as he strode off faster than a car.

...…

Cody and Connor were.... What were they doing? He watched in amusement as they seemed to be attempting to ...….. something?

"What are you doing?" he muttered watching the weird scene in front of him.

"Oh hey Kyle" said Connor, "We saw this cool yoga video online and are trying to mimic it."

"Really?" he asked. It looked more like they were miserably failing at a game of twister. Cody had one leg over Connor and his back was arched upward while Connor was balancing on his hands with his feet on Cody's back. This was supposed to be yoga huh? Kyle made a mental note to avoid yoga in the future it looked very uncomfortable.

"Well you guys have fun with that then." Kyle turned to leave and found him mind again on Kip. Darn it, even the two idiots he lived with couldn't distract him. He got a can of whipped cream from the fridge and started snacking. Then returned to watch the mess unfolding in the living room.

Watching idiots was better than stressing over a suicidal maniac that he definitely didn't care about.

"Should I get a twister spinner to help you guys out with that?" he asked innocently.

He smirked in amusement at the glare he received.

"Right foot red." He commented.

"Oh shut up this isn't a game it's a type of stretch, we just haven't quite mastered it yet." Cody muttered glaring at him. "Go eat your whipped cream elsewhere if you're going to be mean."
