Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

They were meant to fall in love,no matter how many time it takes...

Hellen woke up from a dream. It was the longest dream that she'd ever had. Tears making their way out of her eyes, streaming down her cheeks, later to her ears.

Her eyes hurt and they ache. She realized that she's having a terrible headache because of the wide range of emotions she felt in her dreams, resulting her to cry like a newborn baby. Crying as if she is grieving for someone who passed away.

Looking past her blurry vision, she couldn't make out who was peering down at her. The silhouette then disappeared within Hellen's vision and appeared again with more people, whom she couldn't quite make out who they were as well.

Minutes after their arrival, she felt a pair of fingers, tearing through her eyes and a light shone into her eyes. It was bright yellow,or perhaps a little bit of red mixed with it.

Hellen then felt unfamiliar hands on her body. Mainly on her hands, thighs and feet. They weren't creepy but they were warm.

While she was feeling this comforting warmth from god knows who,she lost her focus when a voice called out to her.

"He...en. hear ?"

It took her mintues to find out what this person is trying to say. Her ears were ringing and she could hear herself breathing through an oxygen mask.

Her hearing slowly started to open up, and the first thing she heard was the beeping sound of a ventilator.

Her vision started to become clear and a white ceiling is the first thing she saw.

Hellen started to turn her head to her left and saw three people standing on her side. One of them slapping her cheeks to wake her up. Another two, placing their hands on her thigh and feet.

"Hellen! Can you hear me?"

This time she heard and saw the doctor.

The room was completely silent, waiting for her reply. The only thing that replied to the doctor's words was the sound of a ventilator.

"If you can hear me,please nod your head. Hellen, can you do that for me?"

Hellen slowly tilted her head upwards and went back to the position that her head was. It wasn't considered a nod,but the doctor was really focused so he was relieved that Hellen could hear him.

"Okay, that is good enough. Now,I will give you my pen. I placed it in your palms now. Can you squeeze it?"

Hellen was like a rusting robot who took in commands but it took her time to process and carry out what the doctor is telling her to do.

Her fingers moved but she only had enough strength for her pinky to touch the pen.

The doctor wore a worried expression on his face. He then turned to face the people in the room.

"There is nothing to worry for now. Since she just regained her consciousness,it is quite difficult for her to move just fine. I'll later come to check up on her once again. Please excuse me then,I will have to write something about her progress on the papers."

Hellen then turned her head to her right and saw her mother, squeezing her hands really tight. She looked like she haven't slept for days.

On her left was her father and her sister. Her brother was nowhere to be seen across the room.

The family left the hospital room, just to go home and cook some homemade food for Hellen to eat. Since they were trying to cook a variety of food, they were away for hours.

Before they return, the doctor was already in Hellen's room, examining her body and the systems of her body.

When the doctor was about to leave the room, without saying anything to her,she felt like he was trying to hide something from her.

"Uhm Doc?"

The doctor was surprised she called him but then turned to look at poor Hellen sitting on her bed.

"Yes? Do you need any thing Hellen?"

She hesitated before she slipped a hard question through her lips.

"Please tell me the truth."

She said firmly.

"Hellen. You are not ready for the truth. You just woke up and nothing will make sense to you right now." the doctor replied.

"I am your patient,Sir. I deserve to know what's wrong with me."

"Even if I do it's complicated for you to understand."

"Please." Hellen pleaded.

The doctor sighed and took the papers that was in the hands of a nurse. A male nurse.

They had a long conversation that took around 15 mintues.

Hellen was quiet. She is processing.

"So,you're telling me...my lower body is paralyzed and I can't walk anymore. But I can still go to the toilet."

"Yes,that is true."

"And that is because I somehow managed to damage my brain or my spinal cord..."

The doctor nodded.

"Will.....Will I be able to recover? Will I be able to walk again?" Hellen asked, wearing a painful expression on her face.

"I... I'm not sure about it,Hellen."

Hellen's shoulders fell along with a small sigh that escaped through her lips.

"Ah."

"Ah?" the doctor tilted his head.

"So there's no chance huh?"

"No! Of course it's not like that! There...could be a chance." the doctor's voice got smaller at the end of the sentence.

"Can you fill me in? With the details."

"Relating what? Hellen?" asked the doctor.

"Relating what happened to me and how I ended up here...." she paused. "And how long I've been hospitalized here."

"That I will leave it up to Seth to do the talking." the doctor relaxed, after the conversation they had.

"Who's Seth?" Hellen was clueless.

"Him." the doctor pointed the nurse behind him with his thumb.

"Then please excuse me Hellen,I have things I have to attend."

"Oh sure,Doc"

When the nurse was leaving with the doctor,Hellen called for him.

"Seth?"

"Yes?" the nurse turned.

"Are you free? I want answers for my questions."

"Your questions?" the nurse was dumbfounded.

He then took a few mintues to think about what she meant.

"Oh! I'm free. I'll need to place the files back to where they belong first. I'll get back to you soon. Please wait for me." said Seth, and he left her in her room.

It was only 5 minutes and Seth was back. Back with a wheelchair.

"Oh. Wow. I've never thought of...being on a wheelchair." Hellen scoffed.

"You don't mind being touched right? I'll be assigned as your caretaker soon but if you feel like you're uncomfortable with me,I'll tell the office to assign a female nurse to do so."

"I'll be okay,thank you Seth."

Seth then approached Hellen who's sitting at the end of the bed, with her paralyzed legs dangling.

He placed his strong forearms underneath her arms and lifted her. Hellen was then placed on a wheelchair and Seth was putting her legs on the footrest.

She felt pathetic. She smiled at Seth but she felt like she would burst into tears any moment.

"Shall we go to The Garden?" asked Seth.

"The Garden?" Hellen lifted her head back so that she could look up to Seth, who was pushing her wheelchair.

"Its like a big balcony? People can go there and rest, sit, talk or even eat snacks. There's flowers and trees, so you can get fresh air there too. I have a feeling you will love it." Seth replied, not looking at Hellen.

"Oh." Hellen dropped her head to where it was.

"Then? Shall we?"

"Sure."

As she was being pushed around the hospital, she noticed many unfamiliar faces and scents. It smelled like chemicals and medicines. It didn't bother her, because she loved it.

She also felt people looking her way,and whispering something among themselves. This made Hellen fidget.

Soon enough, they reached The Garden. She was hit in her face with a cold fresh air. This feeling is her favorite.

Seth pushed her to a corner, where there is a nice view, and two benches near it. Behind and on the left was a potted plant, big and thick enough to cover the benches. On the right of the benches were panels of glasses for the garden to look beautiful. It was like a secret place that you wouldn't want anyone to discover.

"Do you want anything?" Seth asked.

"For what?"

"To eat?"

"What do you have?"

"Tuna sandwiches,orange juice-"

Hellen's eyes lit up from just hearing what he listed. Tuna sandwich is her favorite.

"Yes please,those two."

"Okay sure." Seth laughed. "It's on me,as of today." added Seth.

While Seth was gone,Hellen was left alone at this secret place. Her eyes started to wander through skyscrapers and city lights that were just starting to light up the streets.

"Unguarded I see." a voice slipped.

Hellen turned around to look for who it was but couldn't get a clue where the voice came from.

When she turned back to the front,a man in a suit was standing right in front of her. She was startled enough to throw cuss words at his face, but he was fast enough to cover her mouth before she does that.

"Are you willing to die for this world?" the man asked, placing his forefinger on his lips.
