Chapter 2 - A day as any

Her father? He was out of country for years. And he certainly wouldn't be in the same house as her mother.

"What are you doing here?" she inquired. He appeared to be surprised by the question.

"You know that I came back home yesterday"

Yesterday? Yesterday was...

It all came crushing down to her. She wasn't supposed to be here. She died. Her father was around like it was a normal thing, her mother was happy and seemed younger and the house... That was the house she spent her childhood in.

She was eighteen again. She remembered that day. Her mother was very scared after she fell from stairs. They were supposed to go on a trip together that day. What her mother didn't know was that her husband would sell her only possession: the house next to the lake that she got as her wedding gift. He would say that the money would be saved for her college. That was a lie. He gave the money to his mistress as soon as he got paid.

She wouldn't let that happen now. She was 25 years old business major. This asshole won't be able to ruin them again. She put on her best fake smile.

"I must have hit my had a little too hard, sorry daddy"

"Jack, maybe we shouldn't go? She might feel sick..." her mother still held her, even though she was already back on her feet.

"That's a good ide..."

"No!" she couldn't let him go alone "I'm alright, we need to spend this time together, like a family should"

She only found out that it was her father's fault she fell down the stairs many years later. His mistress, the housemaid, pushed her down, so she and her mother would stay home. Not happening. She is going to protect her cabin in the woods this time around. That was her favourite place in the entire world and could serve as their new house after that scum ultimately leave them.

They all packed into the car and started the trip in an uncomfortable silence. Typical for her family. She noticed Lydia - the housemaid - looking viciously out of the window. She smiled at her innocently and waved.

They all would pay.
