Right at they were at the gates of the town, Lyrk stopped. "Is there a problem?" Lily asked. "Isn't tonight beautiful?" he asked in reply. "Yes, there are a lot of stars and the moon is full too." "True. It looks a lot like the night when we first met." "Is that right?" Lily asked. "Yes. And tell me our promise again," he said, wrapping his arms around her. "Our promise?" she asked, confused. His grip got so tight, as she asked this, that it bruised her. "Ow. You hurting me." "Our promise. Say it to me. Please." "Oh. Okay. Loosen your grip. It hurts." "Sorry," he said, loosening his grip. "Thanks and yes promise. Forgive me if I mix it up okay." He nodded and then she started. "I'll follow everywhere you go, top over mountains or valleys low; you'll give me everything I've ever dreamed of, everything I want in gold and you'll be my fairy tale, like the one in the stories. I'll be safe under your control because I am yours. Did I get it right?" He smiled and said, "Right enough," then he kissed her. "My head hurts," she said, pulling away from him. "Here take this," he said, giving her a bottle. She took it and drank the contents. "What is this?" she asked. "It'll help with the headaches," he said.
They went to the next town and spent a week there before moving on to the next one. They kept this up, and by the end of their first year together, they had visited more than thirty towns.
After about two years of wandering and exploration, Lily decided that she wanted to settle down in a town for a bit. Lyrk agreed to this, so they both stayed in a town called Netherdale.
One night while they were staring at the stars Lily asked: "do you ever miss your forest?" "Well sometimes. Isn't that a given, though? To follow you on your adventures, I had to share my powers into two, of course, I'd miss my other half. But I have you so I guess it's alright." "Well sorry for taking you away from your home. You could have always let me go on my own." He laughed a brief, bitter laugh, which was a bit intimidating. "Lily, I'll never leave you. Ever." There was a little silence between them then Lyrk crawled on top on her, pushing her to the ground. "Lily what do you think about sex." "S-s-sex? I don't know anything about that." "Do you want me to teach you?" "What? - What could possibly be the use of learning such a thing? No, I don't want you to." She looked at him to see if he was angry, but she saw a small smile on his face. "Well, it's no problem," He said, getting off of her and lying beside her. "You have been calling my name since you were fifteen, so I guess it is okay." "Yes, it is okay. Wait! - What? Calling your name? What does that mean?" Lyrk smiled, closing his eyes without answering her. "What does it mean?" she asked again nudging him. "It just means that you are mine." "Oh... okay," Lily replied, obviously dissatisfied with his answer.
They spent a few more years together in Netherdale and passed and then one day Lily said they should return to the forest. She was twenty-seven now and had spent a total of thirteen years with Lyrk. About a year ago, she had started noticing strange changes in her body. For instance, her hair was turning somewhat bluish, and it didn't even feel like hair when she touched it. It felt more like oil. Her fingernails always looked like they were glittering, and sometimes she woke up to see bruises on her skin. She had asked Lyrk about these things, but he told him it was nothing to worry about.
Lyrk was enthusiastic about returning back to the forest, and he explained, that it was because he would finally be able to combine with his other half.
