Chapter 2 - A GIRL

A GIRL

She turned off the engine and smoothly parked the car. She strode across the private elevator. It had direct access to the top floor. Since it was private, others couldn't use it. The elevator could only be used by three people. Other than this elevator, the company had another one, which was used by the workers. However, for using it, they needed their ID cards, that was provided to them by HR.

She scanned her handprint on the rectangular scanner next to the closed elevator. The door opened, she went inside and it got closed on its own.

The elevator only stopped at the topmost floor of the company, the 77th floor.

Soon, she arrived on the top floor.

The click-clack sound of her heels echoed at the empty floor, as she walked. It was the only audible sound present at that moment.

She paused in front of a cabin. It had a black nameplate with silver linings around it like a flame. On it with beautiful cursive writing was a 'Esther Ross'. This wasn't just a name. It was so much more.

It was the name that made history in the business world by building a humongous empire from scratch. Establishing a business empire which was beyond anyone's imaginations. She started from computer technology and later her business invaded into other sectors as well such as real estate, hotels and the list goes on.

This was the same name that anyone who worked in business or even if they had a teeny tiny interest in business and management; worshipped and respected.

This name wasn't merely famous for the riches, but also for how she did business. From the media articles as described, Esther had her fist over her deal. She was what people said, 'A Real Perfectionist.' So anyone who wanted to do business with her, must know what they are putting themselves into.

Esther never appreciated any sort of mistake, be it a calculation mistake or misplacement of alphabets. Her motto was simple, if you work for me, you must be perfect otherwise...

She was cruel, a true devil while she handled business. She didn't care if your company was in top 5 or you have connections with politicians, if you can't satisfy her requirements, there is no second chance.

Esther Ross never gave second chances.

The name of the girl which high society ladies wanted to be their daughter in law. The male population dreamt of her, fantasized about her.

Yet no one ever saw a glimpse of her speakable beauty. They say beauty is destructive and surely it was. People never got to see her, they still wanted to possess her, capture her and own her.

She was a girl. Being a girl had its own privileges. It was a boon and a curse. Girls have to keep in mind how to behave in certain situations, they have to learn to be submissive. They should never raise their voice, speak impolitely, use swear words, wear revealing clothes, prohibit them from making male friends and the list goes on.

A girl has always been treated as an object. Even in modern times they weren't seen as equal or important. Their opinions didn't matter. Their choices, likes or dislikes had nothing to do.

Sometimes their family used them for their own greed or their life partner. It is her who is supposed to keep her mouth shut and bear everything, if she ever tries to disobey, then they torture her. They break her. They make her feel so disgusted with herself that it becomes impossible to live with it.

Yet they forget that the girl they are abusing can be a lioness if she wanted, she could be so dangerous that they won't know what hit them.

And 'Esther Ross' was the perfect example of an injured lioness; ready to bite and give it back with tenfold more pain.

She entered her cabin and sat on her velvety chair.

She looked at the time and said, "20 mins before 8."

She took the files that were set down on her table and thoroughly began to revise them.

Her room was soundproof in a way that she could hear the outside noise but no voice went out of the room; the employees couldn't hear anything from the outside.

She heard the sound of a pair of heels, dragging them over to her cabin. Then a knock came.

"Come inside." A tall and slender girl sauntered, her head held high. Each step showed her confidence. She had her glasses tucked in her black shirt. She had a white blazer on the top of her shirt and black high waisted pants that ended above her ankles. She had black wedges.

She wished Esther, "Good morning Boss."

Esther hummed.

"What's on my schedule for today?" Esther didn't bother to look up and continued with her work. It wasn't that she disregarded the girl standing ahead of her.

The girl before her was her assistant and secretary. She had been working with her for more than 5 years so she was used to her boss's aloof and cold behaviour. Also, she knew that her boss wasn't heartless like how she portrayed herself, instead she was a warm and soft-hearted girl. Working for not so long nor a short time period, she learnt many things about her boss, Esther. Though she didn't get to know the reason why her boss acted like this. It was a big mystery for her. Yet she blindly trusted her and her decisions.

She opened her tablet, "Boss, you have a meeting with the shareholders around 2 pm. Then you have a meeting with the CEO of 'Z Airlines'. A dinner date …." The assistant paused at the word 'date'. She was sure that if she looked into her Boss's eyes now then she was as good as dead but how could she avoid it when she felt the killing stare.

'Oh God Help me!!'

Her assistant prayed inwardly.

Her eyes fluttered and she scaredly looked at her Boss. She saw Esther playing with the customized pen in her hands. She kept twirling it between her fingers.

Esther didn't say a word and the pin-drop silence was already strong enough to be cut with a knife.

"Who, when?" Esther spoke out only two words.

She quivered in fear. She was her assistant for 5 years but she still didn't get used to her anger. She had witnessed it however never suffered it. She had seen her Boss's anger very few times and she understood that what she showed wasn't even 1% of her actual anger.

Also, her rage was something that her assistant didn't see.

"Boss, your grandma had secretly ordered me to add this to your schedule. She had warned me that if I didn't then she would certainly never let me have free food at her restaurant." She shrank in the end.

Her assistant thought it would be her last day yet she got the most shocking experience of her life.

She heard her Boss chuckling. Her cold and aloofness were not smiling like a robot. She was chuckling. Her chuckles were so melodious that she imagined her voice box to be coated with honey by God before he placed it inside her Boss's body.

The day she had listened to her for the very first time, she was awestruck. She couldn't believe that someone's voice could be this sweet, melodic even when they are talking.

Esther's voice attracted her the most. She felt really calm and peaceful when she overheard her voice. It had this special quality that whosoever listened to it can't help but get mesmerized.

Her assistant got hooked on her voice and without knowing Esther, someone she never imagined in her dreams fell for her voice.
