Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

The rain had intensified. The young man fell asleep by laying a mat on the ground. Amma asked to sleep on the bed but the young man said,

"No Amma, you lie down on the bed."

Amma lay down on the bed but today there was no sleep in her eyes. She slept in her past.

She started thinking that when Krishna was going from Vrindavan to Mathura, the whole of Vrindavan started crying. Animals and birds started running after Krishna. The people of the village tried hard to stop Krishna, but the ruthless Krishna promised to come again. The condition of Radha and Sakhis was not being seen by anyone. Seeing Krishna going in the chariot, they were running after him barefoot. His clothes were torn in disarray. There were blisters on the feet. Thinking this, old Amma started caressing her knees and feet. Today his legs were hurting a lot. His eyes lit up with caress. Nidra Devi took him in her arms.

The chirping of the birds opened the eyes of both Amma and the young man. Amma's body was hurting today. He did not feel like getting up, but the sound of the cow's rumbling was forcing him to get up.

Amma started feeding the cow. Cow Coriander's distant relatives had left Amma a few days back as she had to go on a pilgrimage.

The old Amma had kept it with her thinking that on this pretext the cow would be served.

Old Amma came inside and groped milk in the dolchi. There was very little milk. The old mother said,

"Son, I am bringing you hot milk, till then you deal with daily activities."

Amma started preparing the food. While putting wood in the stove, Amma's eyes started burning due to the smoke. In fact, Amma also wanted that she could hide the tears coming in her eyes so that the young man would not read the expressions coming on Amma's face. Today she was missing Krishna a lot. The young man lay down on the cot and started thinking seeing Amma's condition.

"Does Amma have no family? Why is Amma living alone in this deserted area?"

The more he thought, the more confused he was.
