Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Nicole couldn't help but stare at Amy's lips as she explained the lesson to her from across the room. Just like in the dream they were plump and luscious and Nicole desperately wanted to kiss them. Listening to the lesson bored Nicole, and she dozed off several times while Amy was talking. She finally told Amy she would catch up with the lesson the next day, and that she was far too tired to learn anymore that evening. Amy took her duffle bag to Nicole's bathroom to change, she brought several pairs of sleep clothes, which were really just old clothes with holes that didn't properly fit anymore. She came back to Nicole's room as she was changing and quickly shut her eyes.

"It's fine Amy, I'm sleeping in the bra tonight." With Amy sleeping in the bed it was abnormally hot, which made Nicole feel she could dress less as a result. Nicole laid in the bed and grabbed a book she had been reading. "I'll stay on the left side, you can have the right." Nicole reached for a pair of reading glasses she had to use. Amy looked at her for a moment while she was putting them on.

"I like you with glasses, they're cute on you." Nicole looked up, being called cute was not the norm for her, especially when she was done with a long day and looked like a hot pile of garbage. She looked skeptically at Amy. "No, really they look good on you. Are they only for reading?"

"Yeah, I screwed up my eyes when I was younger and now I need to use them when reading. Especially with these tiny pocket size books with tiny fonts." Amy moved to lay in the bed, deciding she would sleep on top of the blanket Nicole was under. "You can sleep in my layer, unless you don't want to. But if you want another blanket it's sitting on my desk chair."

"It's fine, it'll probably get too hot if we're sleeping under the same blankets. And it's already pretty warm so I think I'll go without a blanket." Nicole sat up in the bed and opened her book to the page the bookmark was on. "What're you reading?"

"Just some old poetry book my mom gave me." Nicole didn't bother looking up as Amy continued asking questions about the books, until she asked whether there were romantic poems. "Yeah a few. But I mostly skim through those, I don't really have anyone to read them to." Amy looked into Nicole's eyes.

"You could read them to me." Amy said this with a completely straight face which just made Nicole more nervous. Amy probably didn't mean it in that way.

"I guess I could, but not tonight." The poetry book reminded Nicole of her earlier dream about Amy and Eva. "Maybe over the weekend I'll have time to read it to you. For now we should start going to bed."

"It's only about nine Nicole, are you sure you want to sleep?"

"Yes, positive, goodnight." Nicole tossed the book onto her side table and turned off her reading light. "Sleep well, and feel free to push me away if I get too close."

"Alright, night Nicky. Love you." Nicole turned her head toward Amy, why was she being so confusing about this. It wasn't Amy's fault Nicole was having these thoughts, but Nicole couldn't help but feel a bit led on. "Oh, sorry instinct. But I do love and appreciate you for letting me live with you for a bit." Nicole turned away from Amy, scared her breathing would pick up and she'd accidentally breath on Amy too hard.

"I love you too Amy, good night."

Amy fell asleep fairly quickly, leaving only Nicole awake and energetic. She looked over at Amy a few times before getting out of her bed and walking over to Bubbles. She hadn't spent very much time with him in the past few days since she'd been busy with Amy. She slid the doors to his terrarium open and opened a container with mealworms. "Are you hungry buddy?" Nicole picked up a meal worm with her fingers, it was a technique to make him associate her with food. She could see him tilt his head and wiggle his plump tail. He struck and snapped her finger a bit, but it didn't hurt that badly anymore when he bit. She shook off the slight burn and grabbed another worm. "What should I do buddy." She lowered her voice even more. "I think I'm in love with Amy. Should I confess to her?" Bubbles was too preoccupied with his food to even look at Nicole. "Really helpful, go back to your hide buddy." She pushed his chunky little body back into one of his hides. "Good night Bubbles, I love you. Maybe you'll be more useful tomorrow." Nicole climbed back into the bed and decided to go without blankets too. Hopefully this time she wouldn't embarrass herself by clinging to Amy.

She turned towards Amy and whispered lightly, "I do love you." She closed her eyes, not daring to stare at Amy for any longer. Eventually she too drifted off to sleep, only to be greeted once more by that dreadful dream from earlier. But she powered through it in hopes of finding a solution to her current dilemma.

A dilemma Amy would solve for her as she had heard Nicole whispering to her and Bubbles. Amy was shocked, but somewhat pleased. It felt good to be loved in that way by Nicole, but could Amy handle that kind of love right now?
