Amy had decided by the next morning that she too liked Nicole, but she wasn't sure whether loving Nicole was safe right now. What if her parents found out that after taking her in Amy had seduced their only daughter? Certainly it was smarter to let Nicole get over the feelings on her own. Since Amy was up so early she decided to cook everyone breakfast, opting to try and recreate Chris' famous cream of wheat. While eating it yesterday she made sure to take note of all the spices and flavors she tasted in it. Nutmeg being the most obvious and flavorful one and Cinnamon being a close second, added an absolute ton of sugar and she was sitting on a very good dupe of Chris' recipe. She served herself and Nicole a bowl, deciding then to wake up her friend so she could learn a bit more of the lesson. The floorboards creaked as Amy tiptoed back to Nicole's room with the bowl of hot cream of wheat.
She pushed the door open with her food and set the bowls down on the desk so she could lightly wake Nicole. "Nicky, wake up. I made you food." She poked Nicole's stomach receiving a loud snore rather than any movement. She tried this tactic several times, but each time she yielded the same results. Eventually she went with a tactic her mother always used on her. She pinched Nicole's nose, lucky for Nicole she breathed through her mouth. When finally Amy had exhausted all the methods she knew of she decided to leave Nicole be and enjoy breakfast until she woke up. The cream of wheat was very similar in flavor to Chris', hopefully this meant another round of praise from the family. She sat patiently, eating her quickly cooling food, and waited for Nicole to wake up more.
As Nicole finally started to wake she was instantly drawn to the now cold bowl of cream of wheat. Amy passed it to her on the bed. "I tried to make it like Chris does, is it okay?" Nicole's face lit up with the first bite. "Is it too cold, should I microwave it for you?" Nicole shook her head and grabbed for Amy's hand.
"It's so good, you couldn't have made this yourself. Chris!" She called in utter disbelief that Amy had gotten too close to the recipe.
"Hush, your mom and Chris are still sleeping, and I did too make this myself, rude." Amy was finished with her bowl and again offered to go and warm Nicole's food since she was going out to the kitchen. Nicole still declined and took her own bowl and spoon to the kitchen, the way the cream of wheat dried made it difficult to clean off. She scrubbed the dish thoroughly before sliding it into the dishwasher.
"Morning Amy. You made food?" Amy turned, Chris was awake and tired looking.
"Yeah, I tried recreating your cream of wheat. Nicole seems to think it's pretty spot on, I think she's just trying to flatter me." Chris moved towards the kitchen sink.
"You don't mind if I get some water to warm it up again right? It's an old trick, it dilutes it a bit but then it's hot and has that lovely consistency." Amy shrugged and so Chris did dilute the breakfast. "It'll be done soon, you can go now." Amy walked back to Nicole's room, she was now using her phone to scroll on instagram.
"You woke Chris up."
"He'll be fine, he wakes up about twenty minutes from now on normal days anyway." Amy rolled her eyes and moved back onto the bed, curling up next to Nicole and looking at her instagram feed. There was the usual, some advertisements, posts from other track members. But one post stuck out, Eva was in a picture on the promotional page for her mothers plant nursery. Nicole spent an awfully long time staring at the picture for someone who was trying to get away from Eva. But before Amy could ask, Nicole scrolled past and began showing Amy a cute video of a lizard.
Chris came in a couple times to complement Amy's attempt at his cream of wheat and gave her some ideas on how to improve the next time. Juliana came in and did the same, and soon everyone in the house was awake and ready for another day.
Nicole and Amy decided it would be best to walk to school that day, a decision they would both regret once they realized how hot it was outside. It was the middle of October, and where they lived it was either horribly hot or very rainy. Once the two arrived at the school they took off the hoodies they had worn in anticipation of chillier weather. Their day proceeded as it normally would, plus Eva stalking, but that was ignorable if they tried hard enough.
Eva made it very hard for Nicole and Amy to ignore her at track practice, but they managed. Eventually this became the normal for the two, school, track, home, cook, homework. The schedule became so routine in fact that they were both shocked when an abrupt change was made. The weeks had flown by and it was now nearing the end of October, which meant halloween was right around the corner. Nicole and Amy had both loved the holiday, but this year they would be forced to stay home and pass out candy.
