Chapter 2 - Written Placement Test

Maxwell bumped his elbow against Lumin as a sign that now was the time he departed from the other. "As Vice President I can't just allow my President to do all the work." He gave Lumin a toothy grin and as they walked out of the building in the crowd of monsters, he pointed to a building across the yard around seven city blocks of length away. "That is where you will be taking your test with the people that want to raise their rank and be different from last year."

Lumin was a bit confused so he asked, "How does that work exactly?" He tilted his head to the side so naturally it reminded Maxwell of a dog.

Maxwell chuckled before explaining, looking off into the crowd at a girl with ears on top of her head pointed towards him, "Every assignment you take determines your ranking out of the entire class." He was watching the way the girl moved in the crowd as if scurrying, which was unusual for a werewolf. She was wearing a long sleeve black shirt and reminded Lumin as a main character from a young adult series. Who would wear such long sleeves in such hot weather.

"Some people end the year lower than they like so at the beginning of each year they often raise their rank by taking the test so they have breathing room to make mistakes throughout the year. For example, if I had rank 350 out of 400 I would take the test to raise it to at least 200 in the beginning." Maxwell explained further looking ready to fly towards the girl as she got further and further away, Lumin didn't want to keep him for long until he realized that this test might not be passable for him.

"So the test is complied with everything you guys learned from this year or last year?"

Maxwell seemed to get what he was hinting at and answered ".. Last year— But most of it is basic 101 stuff that people learn since it was freshman year classes. I'm sure you'll be fine." The dragon tried to give him a reassuring smile but Lumin already knew he was absolutely fucked.

"Mmm. Thanks VP" was all Lumin said before waving Maxwell goodbye and turning towards the building. Not even two seconds after he turned away, Lumin saw him race through the crowd towards the girl he seen before. When she turned around her face was full of light spots.

As Lumin sat down in the padded chair that faced a Brand Wish computer. It was obvious the school had money. They seemed to be flaunting it everywhere. "You're new, right? I never forget a face." A scratchy voice came from the right of Lumin, sitting by the window.

"Yeah Bubbsy. They're new." The second voice came from the same body, it was a higher pitched tone with much more inflection than the first. In a regular human world a person like this would be diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder but in this world full of magic, ghost, and supernatural occurrences all around these two were the grandchildren of the legendary Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Lumin looked towards them and takes in their appearance. Outwardly, the man was the main personality. He was around 5 foot 10 inches with short black hair in a buzz cut style that made him look androgynous. He has heterochromia iridum as do all the people that have the blood of The Doctor. One emerald eye and one brown. "It's that obvious, huh?"

"I mean, yeah." The lower voice answered and then the higher one, "Everyone got a look at you this morning at the assembly."

"I'll never be able to live that down." Lumin covered his face in his face in his hands to hide his smile. To the others it seemed like he was embarrassed. They didn't know that he was actually happy to have the Hao YunXiang's attention.

The higher pitched voice of the two exclaimed, "We were all just surprised someone would have the balls to speak during his speech until we realized you probably don't know what happened with the last guy that did that." They raised one hand all the way up and their other hand was straight in Lumin's direction. They slapped the arms down together and the sound filled Lumin's ears like a leather whip.

Lumin arched his eyebrow and the two found it funny the witch showed so much expression on his face "Deadass?"

The two nodded silently and shrugged letting Lumin know that it apparently was a common occurrence in this school. He guessed to himself that murder was okay as long as someone in power did it.

A phantom teacher walked to the desk in the front of the room and began speaking with a hint of a Russian accent. "Alright everyone, quiet down. The computers in front of you will begin your test as soon as you put your student ID number in and scan your fingers as so-" He demonstrated using a computer that was facing the room. Lumin knew that demonstration was specifically for him. "Cross your fingers and begin!"

Lumin drove straight into the test knowing he was going to fail. Who in there right mind would take a test on material they didn't learn? He was so focused on gathering any information he could that he didn't notice the eyes at the back of his head. Hao YunXiang stood by the door, eyeing Lumin's blonde locs trailing down his back before leaving like he was never there.

"How do you think you did new kid?"

"You already know how I did." Lumin grumbled and sighed before pulling out a paper map to figure out how to get to his dorm.

"Yeah, with grades like that I don't think you'll make it passed this first semester unless your family pays the school." The low pitch voice was carrying the conversation with Lumin now.

Lumin lifted up his pointer finger and his middle finger towards his forehead and flicked them toward the two while going in what he thinks the general direction of his dorm is. "Well.. I'm gonna go ahead and get to my dorm. It was nice meeting you… PB and J."

"The hell? How did that become our names?" Jelly, the high pitched voice answered. It was clear she was a girl by the way they referred to each other.

In comparison, the main personality and the boy between the two of them was whom Lumin called PB.

"It won't be as funny if I told you. Figure it out." Lumin chuckled before jogging toward the path of the large dorm building.
