The company was supported by other than steel plants in a big way now, which was the result of my constant tour to offices of PSUs in the power sector, railways, national highway authority, state government projects etc which required greater efforts and time to manage orders. I could find two three in-charges who were having political contacts and friendship with dealing officers to help us in getting orders, and they were placed accordingly, which brought some bickering in a few and this was ignored and got settled in due course; while Director and ED together tried to use to sabotage the process. Strict vigil was kept personally by me on the activities of this small group through my Technical Bureau in which DGM(Marketing) and AGM(Personnel) was involved through close monitoring of projects and existing orders. Many times surprises could be found by this group on my updates which were shocking to them and for me pulling them up. Role ED was also restricted to legal cases and some old issues with steel plants perennially attached to his working schedule and putting him in a bracket along with Director and this ignoring was heavy on their mind pushing them to the end of their wits. One day ED came to me and expressed his displeasure and immediately I asked him to get some project orders for the company through his contacts of any size and value, and this was also told to Director who thought that he could also get some orders through his old contacts, and I readily permitted, although I knew well that this he was making an excuse to roam around on company expense; I didn't like but intended to keep ill intended person out of sight to keep peaceful working atmosphere. Director came back with an order to get approval after three months from Tamil Nadu Government with a profit of 3.5 percent and Rs 5.0 lac and justified with tough competition in the market, notably this earning would not compensate for his travel expenses also; another example of insensitive executive of a PSU. ED didn't tried for any order and pleaded that none wanted to work with this sick company and he was not having courage to propose any such idea causing more problem to him; he was still roaming in VRS mood spelled out at regular intervals, I felt sad that such an experienced civil engineer was spoiling himself. But I retained him for technical vetting of projects under process which he did with a lot of discussion and generating heat when I interfered and also overruled him. We in fact were not having much trouble as our order book was increasing regularly with small, medium and large values projects.
