Chapter 16 - 16. SOME IMPORTANT FAILURES

I tried to tie up for National Highway projects and met the Directors in Dwarka-Delhi those days, but their system was complicated and mostly private agencies asked for huge earnest money giving no preference to a PSU company, and our company could hardly afford it. But most of their tie ups for projects with foreign companies of repute and large size went hay ware for simple reason of bribing and corrupt practices at different levels in the organization in very high magnitude, and mostly those companies walked away resulting into several time advertisement and delays, which were hardly questioned, and even if done so didn't make much improvement due to neutral attitude of authorities, and it became a national shame for many years. Later we got some part projects through off loading and in terrorism infected areas, where one had to struggle even endangering own life and security agencies avoided to get involve easily quoting many rules and very few projects progressed satisfactorily, and we got disinterested. Many projects in Naxal infested areas progressed slowly and no departmental action was ever initiated as alternative agencies were not available to pick up the jobs. We were concentrating on railway projects and small residential projects in different places. The company also worked in construction of Navodaya Vidyalayas in different places throughout the nation, which were very close to my heart, and we were almost patronized by the Authority, although on an ever dwindling budget for every school. But it was giving us revenues for all important payments to be released particularly to employees right from Grade IV to the Chairman.
