Kanibora got up. Danachi was sleeping in a sitting position. She got out of the bed without disturbing his sleep. She felt a lot better now but somehow she felt the eagerness to eat something. Probably it was because what she had experienced yesterday was quite human-like so now her body reacted like one too.She couldn't help it.
"This won't do," She thought. It wasn't good for her to live like that when she should be working to become a full-goddess. But for the moment, she realized she should meet her stomach's need. She searched around the house .She didn't notice at first but the house was quite nice for a single people to live. There was enough space and enough accessories for a man to live. She looked around to see if there was something to eat. There was some fruits on the shelf, looked like a week's supply. She took an apple and took a bite from it. It was really sweet and delicious. It felt more delicious because it had been a while since she had eaten anything last and she wanted to eat more .
"You're up?", Dan asked while rubbing his eye. He had woken up too.
"Mm." She replied while taking another bite.
"How do you feel now."he asked again.
"A lot better. All thanks to you." She told him." You saved me twice. I owe you now. I'll make sure to help you out when you need me."
"Wow.I didn't know it felt that great if a goddess owes you." Dan said. He was grinning and making a face as if he was really happy about the fact that she owed him.
"You know now"Kani rolled her eyes.
She suddenly remember last night's event.
" But how did you come so soon last night? You came almost immediately after I had collapsed.",she was wondering.
"I am a light sleeper. So when you went outside, I had already woken up. I thought you were going back that's why I decided to follow you.", Dan replied.
"You were there the whole time?!" , Kani didn't even realize there was someone watching.
"I was going to come back in after I finished watching you play with the fireflies. But then you went near the Aya so I got worried. That's why I didn't leave."
He felt a little shy talking about the fact that he was secretly watching her. But he can't deny that he wasn't mesmerized by her beauty. He still remembered clearly how heavenly she looked with that golden curly hair, that the moon light was reflecting upon and glowing. The fireflies looked as if they were her crown. A light blush appeared on his face thinking about it. He turned his face from her but she didn't notice.
"You were worried about me?! " she asked in surprise. It's the first time in centuries that a 'human' got worried about the safety of her.
"I really was worried.Specially after you said that you 'could' die. But I'm really glad that I was there last night. After you collapsed, I really thought it was the end. But now I thank the lord that you are alive and well. I'll probably go to the temple today to serve offerings."He answer while still facing the opposite direction.
" A temple,huh?", She chuckled.
Long ago, humans used to pray to Lord Ardhana, the most powerful of all and the ruler of the realms, directly because they all believed that He is the only one that could hear their prayers. Ardhana listened to their prayers and granted humans what they needed. He was happy that humans knew their lord But soon, the humans realized there are many of the gods and goddesses there and created different temples to worship the one god or goddess of their liking. Kanibora remembered Ardhana not being happy about it whenever the matter came up. Neither of the powerful gods were happy. They already had their own jobs to perform but now they had to listen to the worries of humans who worshipped them. Even gods don't like someone constantly calling their names if they are not used to it. Kani wondered which god they were worshipping in the temple of Tahaku.
"What happened last night?" Kani came back to reality after hearing Dan ask her.
"It's better if you don't know ",she replied.
"You just said that you owed me. I think I am qualified to know what's going on.".Dan insisted. He thought he at least had the right to know.
Kani was still unsure about informing any villager about it but Dan was right. He really had the right to know.
"There's something like a serpent or something in the river."she started,"I couldn't figure out what it was but it's very powerful. I'm positive I got the scar from it but it's more like a curse that it gave me.That should be the reason why the scar hurts the most when I'm near it.",she told him.
"Hmm....", Dan brushed his chin as if he thinking something serious.
"It's weird. We never had a occurrence like this.We never even heard of something like a serpent living in the Aya. But as far as I remember, the curfew of not going near the river after the sun had set, has always been there. We don't know anything about it but it's like we already knew.",He said. Now that he thought about it, everything just seemed...not connecting to each other.
"Maybe, it was there all along. Maybe someone saw it and imposed the curfew long before you were born."Kanibora replied.
"It's possible."
"Want to eat something?", She took another apple from the shelf and asked Dan.
"Yes. Wait, you're eating?",He asked in surprise as she didn't want to have it the night before.
"I felt like eating. You wanted to offer me food last night. So I'm eating now on behalf of my past self."
"You can eat as much you like.",He said while looking at her. He was happy that she trusted him.
Again, Kani felt it again. A tingling feeling in her stomach and also, she felt a little hot again.
"Catch it.", She threw the apple to him in a hurry and he catched it.
For a moment, it felt really different to her eating with someone, quietly in a place. From as long as she could remember, she has always worked hard flourishing her magic so that she could be a full goddess fast and enjoy her life in Nirvana without any worries. She was always annoyed that she was assigned with these humans. But just in a day, meeting with this man had changed her mind. These villagers were living a life that they want. They work for a day to live a day and after they've passed a day, they wait for another. She could see now why Ardhana liked his creations.
"It might not be so bad, if I were to live as a human." She said to herself.
