Chapter 3 - THE CONSEQUENCES OF TOUCHING A GODDESS

When they reached the village, the sun had almost set. A damp orange glow was covering the entire village. The beauty of the afternoon reminded Kanibora of her home in the nirvana.

When they entered the village they came across a few people who were treating Kani just as they would treat any passerby. They were unbothered.A few moments later they came across two middle aged men. They seemed to know Danachi.

"Got good stuff with you eh,mate?", said the first man with a beard, pointing at the rabbits.

"Tell me about it," said Danachi."Didn't think I would get lucky. All thanks to this mate here. Helped me a lot.".He pointed at her.

"Who is this?",asked the man.

"Er...this is..." Danachi stopped when trying to introduce Kanibora. He realized they didn't make up a name for her.

"I'm Kani. I'm from the Faraka village. I met Danachi while I was out for hunting in the mountain and helped him out."she had made it up.

"Do your people hunt in the mountain frequently? I'm only asking because we don't really go up in the mountains.", the second man,who had his long hair tied into a ponytail in the back, asked kanibora.

"Only occasionally. Most of the time, when there's a feast, we'd go for hunting.",she replied.

"Well,Dan. For how much are you gonna sell those to us?", The man with a beard asked Danachi.

"50 eangs. Each for 10.",Danachi said with confidence.

"50? I say 10. These aren't worth that much.", the man replied.

At that moment,Kanibora decided to help . She went to the man with a beard and put a hand on his shoulder," 10 for each and we'll let you have them all."

The man was startled for a moment and then looked at her with blank eyes. She then put her hand on the shoulder of the man with ponytail and asked,"Deal?"

He too, looked at her with blank eyes and then replied,"Deal."

They handed over the rabbits and and got 50 eangs. She gave 20 eangs to Danachi and put 30 eangs in her own pocket.

"Hey!That's mine!!",Danachi said.

"We were able to sell them with this high price because of me. You were gonna sell them in 20 eangs anyway.",she replied.

"But-but-", looked like his pride was hurt.

"When we reach Aya I'll give you another five eangs more. Now run."

"What!? Hey,wait-"

Kani grabbed his hand and started running.Just a couple of moments later, they could hear those men screaming,"You thieves! Give us our money back!!"

They ran quite a bit and only stopped when they had reached Aya.

"What- what was that?" Danachi asked while catching his breath,"Why did they suddenly call us thieves?"

"I manipulated their memory. But I'm not really good with it. It wears off pretty quickly. That's why we had to run before they could catch us.",kani replied.

" Then this morning, you tried it on me too?"

"Yes, but it didn't work.",she was unbothered. He was gonna know sooner or later anyway.

" Remember, you still owe me 30 eangs.", He decided to change the topic.

"No.I owed you 5 eangs but not anymore", she told him while handing him over the money."As for the rest of the money, I'm gonna need it soon."

The river had much clear water. And the sky of the dust, reflecting on the water created a sensational feeling. Kanibora went to a side of the river bank and put her hand into the water. The water was cold. A bit colder than how it should have been on a warm day. She put her palms together and held out a handful of water. The water was clear but in the light it gave of a blue-ish shade. It wasn't a natural blue. But it was probably because of the light anyway. For further inspection, she needed to go into the middle of the river.

"I need a boat.", she told Danachi.

Danachi scratched his head, looked around and then whispered,"You made a difficult request. Boats are not allowed to row in the evening. It's our rule."

"It's not a request. I need to get into the middle of the river.Where are the boats tied?",she insisted.

"It's there."Danachi pointed at the left side where several boats were tied.

They went there and started to untie a boat from the bank.

"HEY!! WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING?!they turned around, hearing some shouting from the back.

A few villagers had gathered and tried to stop them from getting on the boat.

A giant man who looked like the chief, came forward and said,"Don't you know the rules, we do not fish in the river after the sun is set. Stop what you're doing at once!"

"There are no fish in the river and the water looks blue. There might be something in the river that's causing this.Just give me a moment and I'll be done with this.", Kanibora tried to persuade the person.

"A rule is a rule. There is no expectation for you, Young man."He replied.

"Please, just give me a moment.", Without wasting anymore time she proceeded to get on the boad. But the chief caught her hand.

"For the last time, you're not allowed - Aaah"

The chief clenched his head with his hands and started growling in pain.

"Aaah-make it stop, stop it ,aaaaah." He looked like he couldn't take it anymore.

Kanibora hurried over and held his head firmly. She then used her powers to stop the pain and put him to sleep.

A woman from the people who were standing not far asked,"Is he alright?"

"He probably just had a bad headache.Take him to his house.", she told her.

Some people came and took the chief to his home.

Without wasting anymore time Kani asked Danachi to hurry up and they went on the boat. With fast rowing, they were soon in the middle of the river.

She put her hand in the water and casted,"I summon the lives of water, answer my call. Tell me your worries, tell me all."

But there was nothing . She tried the calling for a few more times but there was still nothing. She realized, the fishes weren't vanished. If they had gone further away just because of environment, they surely would've responded to her calling.. Something in the water was constantly stopping them from entering the Aya.

Suddenly, the water started to turn warmer. It became so hot that Kani had to draw back her hand back from the river.
