Chapter 8 - Differences

"Huaa!" yawned Hito as they finally stopped in the middle of a forest. It was just a garden of the school, but it was still too damn big.

"Why are you yawning, when we just had lunch?" asked him Anala. She somehow ended up in front of the class when walking here.

"Oh, you scared me, go away shu, shu, go play with your classmates,"

"Hey! I'll show you!" Anala went away and started conjuring two dimensions, both turn out to be red and she blushes but continued to train. Meanwhile, the rest of the classroom arrived and Hito counted them while sighing in boredom.

"Look, there are twenty people here, make groups of five, and let's make it a contest. Let's say that the group that comes last will get a big homework and the first group with all members capable of making a combined spell will get a free card from any homework I ever give, okay? Happy? Now go!" Hito would normally ignore them, but for some reason he was walking between them, looking at the groups. The first group was made out of the five adults, second was made out of Anala, Roger, El, Engan, and Faul. The third group was made out of only girls with Leona as the only name Hito remembered, while the fourth was made out of only boys with Harry trying to lead them.

They start with casting two dimensions as Roger and El explained to them and Hito went around all of them at first, but after a few minutes, he sits on the grass and opened a book.

"Are we doing it wrong?"

"Not really, I am just bored,"

"I see," Anala was sweating more them her classmates and she obviously had something on her heart.

"What is it? Your stare is annoying,"

"How... it's just my nature causes me to open the Vulcan dimension,"

"And?"

"How can I get rid of it?"

"By hard training,"

"Isn't there something..."

"You can stop worrying over it,"

"Eh? But we have to make a spell by using two dimensions!"

"I won't tell you anything else, figure it yourself!" he said and at that moment somebody started celebrating.

"That was fast... who was it?" Hito asked and was pointed towards the adult group.

"It was me..." said the man, twice Hiro's stature.

"Show me!" Hito ordered and the man almost without effort made a brownish circle and from it he conjured a small cloud of rust.

"Well, this spell is definitely interesting...you used iron dimension and sea dimension to corrode the iron?"

"Yes, I learned how to make a cloud of iron pellets and since I work as a smith, imaging rust wasn't hard,"

"Good job, you have free time!"

"Master! I also made it!" said Laura and showed him golden sand coming from a very small circle.

"Your circle is very small, you still have a problem in conjuring them?" he said, watching the sand disappear.

"Does it matter? I made the spell!"

"Of course it matters! You combined two circles but look how much you conjured, it's not even half of the rust your classmate did! You need to make your circle bigger otherwise you won't pass my lesson,"

"But I didn't fail this task right?"

"No you have free time, use it to make your circles bigger. Also, you used light or town dimensions to make it golden sand?"

"Light," she said and Hito only nodded. He stayed near this group since the adults for some reason managed to combine the spell faster than rest and soon enough the young man who was the first one to leave his first lesson also managed to make a spell.

"Making mud is not very useful though," said Hito, but otherwise was okay with the spell. Another successful attempt was from a woman in her early thirties with a big lion-looking haircut and chubby face. Her cheek red in shyness she puts two circles together and from her hand, a sweet smell tickles the noses of the whole class.

"Well, that was unexpected! Well done," Hito honest surprised face made everybody curious and Harry asked why it was so impressive.

"Two things, first the smell covered the whole area, which is a lot for how much energy she put into it and second is the meaning. You pull this from the town and dream dimension, right?"

"Yes, how did you guessed, I have different colored circles!"

"Most people have town dimension as the one that makes man-made material, the smell of sweets could not be found anywhere else,"

"But why did you guess the dream dimension?"

"To make it more nostalgic and heavy, right?" Hito smiled.

"I am actually a cook and so for me, most dimensions have cooking-related meaning," she explained and the muscle man next to her nodded.

"I know that, since I work as a smith I have the same problem. Thanks to that my dream dimension are the same as a town,"

"Right?!"

"Okay, okay, now the rest! You are the last adult to not make the task, no pressure though" Hito said to still a very young and pretty woman with golden accessories. Since he was stranded next to her she got restless but soon also made a golden spell, but it was simply a liquid gold. Hito only nodded at the spell, making the woman a bit angry.

"Since you are the first ones I will forget the homework you got and now you can use magic outside the school,"

"Thank you,"

"No! The rest of the class better put some energy into it! Especially you two!" Hito came next to Ell and Roger. They both started to sweat as he was standing behind them, watching them carefully.

"Can you give us some advice please?" Harry asked.

"No, I hope you asked these two for advice and that is all you need," Hito said and after minutes of silence Roger finally made the same spell as before and Ell followed suit.

"Good, good. How about you train the speed! Look how long it took you to compare to the adults!" Hito said.

"Show it to me again!" Leona said to Roger and stood before him.

"O-Okay," he said and after a few minutes, he made a puff of steam again. Leona looked at Hito and opened her palm, creating a circle that produced steam as well.

"What about it? You have to use two circles!" Hito said to her.

"What is the point of this practice when I can do the same and better with one circle?"

"Leona is it? You already know why, don't you?"

"No sir, I checked the book, there is nothing about it. It said that it helps create new spells, but If it creates the same spells, then it is useless,"

"Hmm, maybe for you, but most people have a more conservative Meaning of each dimension. You think too much about it, just try it and see,"

"What about me? I can only put two Vulcan dimensions together, that makes no sense!" Anala joined and Hito looked at her.

"Why?"

"Why? I can just create something from one!"

"Agh, who taught you the basics? I guess I will prepare a special lesson for the future, for now, trust me and just do what Roger and Ell did. Make two circles in one place," Hito said while massaging his forehead.

"Ah!" a small pink cloud comes from Engan's hands and floats slowly above everybody before it disappears.

"Very good! It looks like we have some talented people here after all," Hito said and Engan smiled at Leona.

"As always you are slow when it comes down to the practical lesson," Engan laughed at her, but Leona said nothing and rather tried her own spell. However, in the end, people started to sit down on the ground sweaty, exhausted, and disappointed. Anla was one of the last ones to give up but she in the end also stopped trying.

"It looks like nobody came out last, so we will forget that rule, I am not so petty. You have until the end of the semester to get rid of your fail so good luck! Also, we will discuss the basics you so severely lack the next lesson, so prepare for it," Hito said and let them go home with a simple wave of his hand.
