Chapter 17 - Rusty Sword?

After walking around the city for a while and looking at various things that left them amazed, Wang Lei and Shenyan decided to head to a weapon store to see if they can buy anything with their measly amount of money.

They stood before a run-down building which did not have any sign board that indicates that it was a weapon store except the fact that there was Sword and Shield engraved on the door of the building.

Due to this, most people will miss this building and head to a more luxurious building and a more popular stores that sell weapons, but Shenyan and Wang Lei did not have the money to spend unlike those rich people, so they decided to come to this store after receiving instructions from a store owner who was selling ordinary armor and some artifacts.

They walked into the building, and the moment the entered, they were assaulted with dust which made both Shenyan and Wang Lei cough involuntarily. This made it apparent that this building had not been clean at all for quite some time.

"H-Hello, is anyone here?" Looking at the dark interior of the building, Wang Lei did not dare to proceed forward as he asked outward and waited for a reply but alas, no one replied.

Meanwhile, Shenyan was looking around the place by himself, which shocked Wang Lei greatly as he did not know when Shenyan left his side. He was worried that something was wrong with this store, so he decided to probe before entering, he did not expect Shenyan to suddenly walk around by himself.

Wang Lei had no choice but to follow Shenyan as they proceeded to look around the inside of the building. There were not many floors— only two. And it appears that the pathway to the second floor was sealed so they only looked on the first floor of the building. As they walked around, they saw some armors like— [Rough Bull Armor], [Blue Snake Armor], [Wild Boar Armor] and so on.

These armors were only [Ordinary Grade Armor] and as for [Spirit Grade Armor], only those famous and reputable stores sell those kinds of armor.

After looking around for a while, Shenyan was suddenly drawn to a sword that seemed to be in the distance, he approached the sword only to find that it was a rusty sword that seemed to be covered in a dark substance almost like it was on the verge of breaking.

Shenyan did not know why he was drawn to such a sword. Shenyan took a deep breath and he tried to grab this weapon, but it seemed to have a repulsive nature as it repelled his hand from touching it.

It was then that a sudden voice came out of nowhere and resounded in the store, at least it felt like that to Shenyan.

"Young Lad, are you interested in this Sword?"

"Eh?"

Shenyan was startled by the sudden voice in his head that came out of nowhere, but the voice continued to speak.

"That Sword used to belong to an expert who was rumored to be a sword saint thousands of years ago," the voice paused for moment as if recalling something then it continued, "This sword has been discovered by some individuals but no matter what they did, they could not wield this weapon and it has been rusting here ever since it was sold to my store."

Then the voice thought of something and then it said, "If you really want this sword, I can give it to you for free since no one wants it anyway and I was planning on disposing of it."

"Eh? Really?" Shenyan was surprised by what the voice in his head had just said.

"That's right, but I have to remind you that over the years, I discovered that this Sword seem to have develop its own consciousness so it has its own will and thus, refuse to let just anyone wield it— after all, it is a sword with a [Sword Spirit]."

"What is a Sword Spirit?" Shenyan was puzzled by this term and asked the voice in his mind.

"A Sword Spirit is a living consciousness of a sword that embodies the experiences of its wielder and sometimes, part of the wielder's memories. These kinds of existences only exist in weapons whose owners cherished them greatly thus— naturally giving birth to their consciousness over time. They are very rare, and they may sometimes contain some special abilities but not just anyone can wield them." The voice gave his long explanation to Shenyan.

Shenyan only nodded and replied with, "I see."

Although he had no idea what a Sword with a Sword Spirit can do but from what the voice said just now, it seems to be amazing thus he did not question any further.

"Anyway, Young Lad, it seems you have fate with this sword so why don't I help you see if the sword will recognize you or not— if it does, then you can take it with you, if not, you can just leave it behind as it will not do you any good. So, what do you think?" The voice suddenly said.

After pondering for a while, Shenyan nodded and asked, "What do I do?"

The voice immediately replied, "You just need to feed it a drop of your blood and see if it responds."

Shenyan did not think too much about this and picked up one of the knives in the store and proceeded to cut a small hole on his fingers before dripping his blood on the sword's body.

One second

Two Seconds

Five Seconds

Ten Seconds later, the Sword started reacting to Shenyan's blood as it began to vibrate for a good moment before stopping and when it did—

Ding!

[You have been recognized by the 'Sword Spirit' of the Sword.]

⟪Description: This was a sword once wielded by a 'Sword Saint' who almost became a 'Sword God'. Throughout the countless years, the sword had developed its own consciousness thus forming its own 'Sword Spirit.'⟫

"Eh? System? Are you talking to me now? Where have you been all this time?" Shenyan anxiously asked the system about its whereabouts.

[…]

However, the System did not reply despite him asking. Shenyan only shook his head in disappointment before proceeding to look in front of him as he read the information about the Sword.

He realized that what the voice inside his head just now said was true, that this sword used to belong to a Sword expert— A Sword Saint. Shenyan thought for a moment before picking up the sword and this time, it did not have that repulsive feeling from earlier— he was easily able to pick it up.

Meanwhile, the voice from earlier watched this scene with shocked expression on his face and if Shenyan could see his face right now, he could clearly see that the owner of the voice clearly had a face full of disbelief.

The owner of the voice had every right to be shocked because even he tried putting his blood on the weapon, but it did not recognize him but this young lad who does not even appear to be a cultivator was easily recognized by the Sword Spirit— how is that possible?

The owner of the voice could not understand this situation no matter how much he thought about it.

Just as the owner of the voice was lost in his own thought Shenyan's voice resounded.

"So…Uhm, I can take it with me now, right?"
