Jocelyn Janet was from a world of death. She was born, into a realm of Reapers.
The Janet family is known to take the lives of those who have committed the worst of crimes. Her Father, Darius Janet took the position to find these damned souls. It had been the tradition that the next eldest of the family would take the current Reapers place.
There was only one problem. Jocelyn was the first female heir born in 1000 years.
In her world, when a female is born to seek damned souls they are to marry the current king. They're she was only 16, forced to marry the ruthless and unjust king.
Adorned in a navy and black dress that sparkled like the night sky. her hair was up and had a silver crown atop her head. She felt sick. Jocelyn didn't want to marry. The King, Cassius was never one to be merciful. He took pleasure in torturing those who have made little mistakes in his eyes. Jocelyn was more kind in her approach and would try and keep the king's temper off of the subjects.
Jocelyn was asked to join Cassius in the throne room, when she arrived, Jocelyn locked eyes with her brother, Deagan. He was bound and on his knees in front of an enraged Cassius.
"Your majesty" Jocelyn bowed as Cassius turned to her and smiled.
"Ah, my queen, I'm delighted you can join us." Cassius sneered looking back at Deagan. Her brother looked away frowning at the floor. Jocelyn took a seat next to Cassius when he began to speak.
"Deagan Janet, you have committed treason. You have snuck onto palace grounds in an attempt to kidnap Queen Jocelyn," Cassius stated. Jocelyn was shocked at the accusation. Deagan tried to explain.
"No, your majesty this was a misunder-" He began as Cassius held up his hand.
"A misunderstanding, tell me, boy, what did I misunderstand. You evaded our guards and they found you outside the Queen's bedroom with a death scythe." Cassius says as a guard reveals said scythe to the court. They gasp and Jocelyn looks stunned at the weapon.
It was their great grandfather's death scythe. She was puzzled on why Cassius thought her brother was going to kill her. No reaper can die from a death scythe as it didn't work on reapers.
"King Cassius why would my brother come to kill me with a death scythe. They don't work on reapers, so why would he bring one in the first place?" Jocelyn says to Cassius. The king whipped his head to her as the court began to mutter and whisper amongst each other about her statement.
"SILENCE!" Cassius yelled as the room went quiet at his booming voice. "It does not matter he evaded guards and was on my ground without my authority. He will be punished!" Cassius says motioning for the guards to step forward.
Cassius utter one command that broke Jocelyns heart.
"I want him to be thrown into the beast's pit." Jocelyn looked wide-eyed at the King. Her brother began to struggle and yell out.
"I DID NOTHING! STOP! NOOOO!" he shouted as the doors closed and a bell rang. He was gone.
"That is all for today, you may be dismissed," Cassius said as he got up and opened his hand for Jocelyn to take. Shakily she took his hand as they left the throne room.
That night Jocelyn had decided to run. She was tired of being with the King and her brother knew what Jocelyn would do if she had her grandfather's scythe. She could finally escape to the mortal's realm and hideaway.
Sneaking away to the dungeons she found the room where they kept items that prisoners had on them. Jocelyn immediately spotted the wrapped scythe. Taking it into her hands Jocelyn saw a vision. It was the scythe being made. A deep voice could be heard. "Now this is the only scythe that could kill reapers. Use it wisely" it said as her vision returned to the weapon. Hiding it as best she could. Jocelyn packed all she needed and changed into more inconspicuous clothes. She made her way into an abandoned room below the castle.
Jocelyn was relieved she could finally get away from this cruel realm and be free. She thought of her brother and the horrid things that beast did to him. Making her more sure she needed to leave.
Taking the end of the scythe she opened a portal and saw a dark beach. She heard a commotion coming to her door. Quickly Jocelyn jumped through the portal and closing it seeing Cassius's enraged face before it was gone.
She was finally free, she took a deep breath of the salty air and began to explore the coast, wondering what the next step of her new life will be...
