Chapter 1 - Humble beginnings

In the year 2100, dimensional rifts tore the skies, earth and sea asunder, the rifts ranged from big to small, from thin to wide. The world had long been united into one single super power that dominated all life on the planet, technology had advanced to a certain extent where cars could hover and buildings sky high.

When the rifts appeared, humans were curious and sought answers through various expedition teams that volunteered to sign up for the mission, they, guided by more experienced veterans led the team that could range from 5 people to 50 people, into the rifts. Humanity waited patiently for answers from the expedition teams but all that returned from the rifts were corpses and deranged men and women.

It was as though they had seen it all. The few men and women that kept their sanity exposed the existence of "monsters". Powerful creatures that stood at the apex, the moved with lightning speeds and attacked with unparalleled destructive force.

All expedition teams returned saying the same thing. A week had passed and that's when it happened.

A tall mutated 4-eyed wolf walked through a rift in New York, it stood at 3 meters tall and was 8 meters long. It's fur did not have the ability to hide its bulging muscles, the sharp gleaming of claws only enunciated the fearsome wolf.

Rows of razor sharp teeth covered it's jaws, they had a metallic sheen to them. The wolf looked around at its surroundings before coming to a stand stop.

AWWWOOOOO!!!

A deafening howl boomed in the surrounding, it made the earth tremble in its might and the people within a thousand meters went deaf instantly.

"Run!"

"Let's go!"

"Get out of here!"

Screams echoed in the surrounding and people flew into a disorderly panic, people were seen running in all directions to escape from the wolf.

When suddenly even more appeared. A whole pack of wolves sauntered through the rift and they eyed their surroundings, all the wolves had similar builds and stood domineeringly.

That day, a massacre occurred. Blood stained the ground and wails reverberated in the back.

That area of New York was placed on lock down and the American military sent tanks and jets that hurled thousands and thousands of penetration bullets at the wolves, missiles were hurled at the heads and bodies of these wolves, but the wolves just charged on regardless. Even the advanced tech did not stop them.

The government finally decided to nuke the area, only then were the wolves killed. Even so, multiple nukes were needed.

After that day, humanity grew wary against the rifts, humans no longer stayed as curious after the New York incident but governments still sent specialists to monitor the situation of the rifts.

A week passed since and a hundred rifts decided to burst at the same time, hundreds and thousands of monster burst through the rift and appeared on earth, a massacre commenced and humans were killed without regard, life was dispensable and millions of people died each day.

Half a year passed since the Apocolypse, humans now spent their lives in secluded areas deep underground or in high up places.

humans had grown accustomed to the killings and had adapted well to evade unnecessary encounters with the monsters.

Monster now ruled the skies, the earth and the oceans. Massive beats wandered the lands and a food chain was quickly discerned. Humans, of course, at the bottom.

Prior to all these events, Alexander was just a child whose parents died in a car crash. He moved to live with his uncle's family but was treated badly.

He lived a terrible life and celebrated his 16th birthday alone, he was interested in the rifts that appeared on earth and he stayed up to date with social media.

A day after his birthday, he heared about the New York incident and was shocked.

"What if those monsters came to this area as well?"

He jinxed himself.

Days pass and he woke up to the earth quaking and the building shaking violently, he lived in a typical appartment that stood 20 stories high.

His uncle gave him a poor room with no furniture and barely enough food to get by.

"What's happening?"

He thought to himself.

Alexander decided to peer out the window on the 17th level only to find to his horror, massive beasts that scurried around the base of the building. They rammed the building and killed all surrounding people.

Alexander was shell shocked, he checked the time and it read it was 8am in the morning, his uncle and auntie were already out for work.

Alexander didn't want to guess it but… they were probably dead. He was scared at the thought of the building collapsing and dying underneath all the heavy rubble.

The monsters that rammed the building were rhinoceroses that had two horns and were 5 meters tall.

They were absolute behemoths and they traveled in groups of five or more. The six rhinoceroses suddenly stopped their rampage and for some odd reason, decided to charge into a different direction.

Alexander breathed a sigh of relief and a leaned on the side of the wall.

"The world… it's coming to an end. I cant continue to stay here!"

Alexander decided in his mind, he had already planned an escape route to escape potentially undiscovered but it was all for naught. As a part of the broken ceiling fell onto his head and knocked him unconscious.

Who knew he would only wake up 6 months later, when half the population had died.

The streets were devoid of life and and the buildings had long begun to collect ashes and dust. The thick undergrowth had long grown into a dense rain forest, large insects were seen crawling and burrowing in the wet soil.

In the 17th floor of a particular building, a youth with a fair complexion was laid on the grown. The only thing confirming he was alive was the slow movements of his chest, rising and falling.

*cough* *cough*

The youth had coughed violently for a while now.

*cough!!*

Dust particles flew into the air from his violent cough before it subsided.

"ugh…what… what happened here…?"

The youth was naturally Alexander. However before he could get his thoughts sorted out, he realized he was being pressed onto by a piece of large concrete rubble.

He mustered all the strength in his arms and barely managed to push the rubble of his body.

Frankly speaking he was quite a frail boy, but he had suddenly gained such strength, to be able to even push a large piece of rubble that looked to weigh a hundred kilograms.

He was quite shocked.

"T-this…"

'I don't know what has happened to my body, but i need to find out.'

Alexander pushed himself off the ground and he stood up surprisingly with ease.

"My body seems to be strengthened by some type of unknown energy, but i… i feel it coursing through my body. It strengthened my body even to this extent!"

Alexander had not realized the gravity of the situation yet, but the pungent smell of blood that permeated in the surrounding atmosphere was enough to alert him.

He felt that his 5 senses were in their heightened states right now. His sense of smell allowed him to easily sniff out where the blood was coming from.

He followed the trail and walked to the balcony of the room he was in.
