Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 A Saving of a Life Time

It took us about two weeks to figure out which church they were in. An old Baptist Church near the main highway heading to Springfield. It was close to the school by a mile or two, but its guarded with twenty men or more on their wall. Colt and Ace were in the forest nearby with a horse covered in blood and the heads of their members. We were going to sneak into the walls as the others are panicked near the door.

"James," I started to speak, "I don't want you or Martin in there, but make sure their wall goes to hell."

"On it," he smiled as they ran towards the far wall away from me. Screams were heard from the inside as the horse ran inside the walls. All I had to do was climb the wall and find Jade, Aron, and Hayhay inside. They are most likely tortured for days till they would break down. I know that they'll stay strong, but Hayhay is sensitive to many things in life.

But I threw the rope up the wall and started to climb. Peeking over to see if there was a safe place to fall in. There was no one on this side of the wall, but it was weird to not see anyone. But I was near the horse stables and I saw a female cultist member walk in with the blood-covered horse inside. The heads were gone, but the fate of this horse was unknown to me. Following her inside to knock her out for her cloak to blend in.

Her hand was dainty and small, but held a dagger towards the horse's neck. Cutting into it with no thought of what she did. But some how she kept herself clean from all the blood. It didn't last long as I hit her head, knocking her out cold. She was out, but when I took her cloak away and saw she was so young. She look like she made it though middle school, before joining this place.

The deep shade of red fell on top of me as I pulled the hood up. Making myself unknown to the others as I looked around area. Seeing men and women being treated like dogs from the higher-ups. Hoping that their God will save them, but when I got to a pit filled with people yelling around it. I looked inside to see two people holding knifes as they fought a large amount of zombies. The yells of 'Blood for out God' ringed in my ears. These people were mad. But these Zombies looked different with greater speed and strength.

All I hoped is that Jade wasn't a part of it. She would have been ripped apart by those things and the same with the others. The thought of zombies learning quicker around us was scary. But I saw a door below that lead to their cages. It would be a good start to see if any of them were there. The only way down would be the building right beside it. I'm seeing some of the members walking down and up. So I followed to see so many people and zombies in cages. I looked around to see both Jade and Aron in a cage together with others.

I couldn't tell them who I was, but I could cause a commotion. All I need was the key for the cages. I looked around to see a couple of men with the key, but they were heavy built and had black masks over their faces. They must be the ones who pulled out the zombies and people in the pit. Walking over to see if I could sneak the key away, but to no avail to grab it on my own. I had to try something that I was going to hate completely....flirting.

"Well hello there." I smiled.

"What do you want?" the man bellowed.

"Wanted to see what a guy like you doing this boring job?" I laughed.

"I only do this to protect my wife and kids," he replied.

"So you have a wife?" I sounded disappointed, but had another plan in action. "Do you think someone can help you with that?"

"What do you mean miss?" he asked

"I can help you get your wife and children out of here," I smiled, "but you have to give me your key."

"How do I know that your not lying to me," he said while sounding angry.

"I just need to make a distraction and you can grab them and run over to the west wall." I replied with a smile.

"Alright." he sighed.

"I want you to make sure you get these people out of here as well." I smiled as he placed the key in my hand. I could tell that he was telling the truth. So I unlocked the cages with every person, but told them to stay in there till the zombies clear from inside. When each gate was open with what seemed to be filled with zombies, they all come out with their eyes screaming for flesh.

"Hey you ugly bastards!" I screamed, "Come and get me!"

It didn't take long for them to follow as I run up the stairs. All I heard was them following, but I took a sharp turn and watch them leave the building. Screams of members were there and I knew it was the only way to get away, but it also came with boys' car bomb going off on the west side. I knew that we could get these people out, but I couldn't let them know who I was. So I headed back downstairs to see only a couple of zombies left. I pulled out my gun and shot each one with ease, but seen fear in their eyes. I blocked the doors once again.

"You can leave at the west side of the wall," I yelled.

"Who are you?" a little girl asked.

"Karma." I smiled and seemed that Jade and Aron following the group of people. They should be fine, but I still had to find Hayhay. I could only think was the church. They seemed to be using it as their base of operations.

When I got closer to the church I heard Hayhay screaming 'Die' over and over. Soon as I went into the church. There was only blood on the walls and floor, but she stood there with a knife in hand. The man in black was on the ground dead as a doornail. She seemed to be out of it, but it didn't end well as she saw me.

"Your next!" she laughed.

"Hayhay?" I stuttered while walking backwards.

"Why do you sound so familiar, but wear red!" she asked.

"Because I'm a friend trying to save your ass!" I called out.

"You sound just like Lize," she laughed.

"That's because I am," I replied throwing the hood off. It seemed to stop her in her tracks. As tears ran down her face and she smiled joyfully. Knowing that she was finally saved from the torment, but I couldn't go along with her.

"Go to the West wall," I spoke.

"What about you?" she asked.

"I got to make sure everyone is out and safe." I smiled as she left the building. The real reason was to burn their church and make sure that this memory is long gone. I looked over and seen that they were using old fashion lanterns. All I did was threw one on the ground. Watching it moved across the wooden floor and up the walls. I knew that everyone was safe, but had to make sure this place was done for.

Stepping outside and seeing the blood of people covered in red cloaks stained the ground. Zombies feed on their bodies as I walked by them and headed for the wall. No one was there and it seemed more peaceful than before. People were free from this madness, but where were they going to go? I wore their cloak as it was my own, but I wasn't like them. I was heartless killer of both zombies and men but showed mercy to the innocent. I wasn't going to let my friends die alone in this hell hole. But I felt upset about the many deaths here.

Walking back to the school was breathing taking as I felt something on my arm. It looked so unnatural as I look closer. A bite mark, but when did that ever happen? So I shook it off as if was nothing. I'll know in a couple of days by it turning red and the change of my nature of wanting flesh. I'll leave if that were to happen and die without them knowing.

When I got to the school and seen Jade and the others safe and sound. I kept the hood up and walked past them with no thought. I was ready for bed and to cover this wound on my hand. The only thoughts were the cages filled with lives taken from their homes or the zombies. Maybe one of them bit me on the way out, but it was all I could think about. I closed the door, taking the cloak off. My hand burned in pain, but I felt different in a way. I called myself Karma and not by my own name for the first time. I felt free from the pain I felt long ago.

"Seemed like you had fun," Aron laughed.

"Had a feeling that you knew it was me," I replied.

"Not hard to tell by your leadership skills," he answered back.

"Whatever you say pretty boy." I laughed, but he stopped to look at my hand. Knowing that I was bitten from the start.

"Do you think you can pull through with this?" he questioned.

"If I can live with a bite mark and not turn," I laughed with tears running down my face. A part of me didn't want to turn or even die. I had a feeling that Ethan was bitten too, but I hoped that he could pull through. I felt my body stiffen as Aron grabbed my hand, wrapping it. Maybe he think I can life though this too. Maybe I can do this.
