I laid there feeling the bus move though the roads, but it didn't take long when we stopped for something. We all groan as Ace was now driving to let Colt get some rest. But when I looked out side to see a clothing store right next to a grocery store. I knew that we should start stocking up on food and water quickly, but I didn't know when it would be a good start.
"Lize?" Jade asked
"Yeah?" I questioned
"I think we should get supplies here," she said, " just in case home isn't safe."
"Agreed, but we should be in groups," I replied
"Yeah," she smiled, "But we should make sure the area is safe."
"We'll check it." I chuckled, forcing myself up.
"What about your ankle?" she asked
"I'll be fine," I replied
"No you won't," Ben cut in.
"Why is that?" I asked
"Your ankle can have permanent damage if you say on it." he said and forced me to sit down.
"Can we just put a splint on it." I replied.
"Yeah, but..." he tried to speak.
"Then do that." I said
They didn't fight me on it. I wasn't going to stay on the bus. I wanted to look around and see if there was a cop car or something with ammo. All they came up with was a wrap with a screwdriver as a splint. I didn't mind it, but knowing them they would make Jade hold onto my gun. That was not going to happen.
I hoped out off the bus and seen that their wasn't a person in sight. Cars were crashed in the road, blood was all over the ground, and I could tell that some of those things had to be nearby somewhere. Jade stood beside me as well walk slowly around to look in the cars. So far it looked safe to be in the stores, but me and Jade wanted to check the stores across the road.
I looked to see a building with the sign fallen to the ground, but a padlock was on the doors. When was got closer and that there was guns and ammo to last you a long while, but most of it was taken. I could get some ammo boxes and a gun or two for the others to use in the stores. But the lock made it hard to go inside. So I closed my eyes and aim for the lock as Jade back away. Bam and seen that the lock was shot off for us to go inside. But thought of those things could hear us shooting and run this way.
"Jade," I spoke up, "We should hurry before you know what shows up."
"Agreed," she smiled and walked inside. Looking to see what was there for us to take with us. I didn't know was I needed, but it should be normal pistel ammo. But after a while Jade started to scream with joy. Looking over to see that she had a shock gun in hand with two boxes of ammo.
"You just got you videogame baby didn't you," I replied
"Hell yeah!" she smiled, "and there is some for your gun as well."
"Any knives?" I asked
"Just a hunting one." she said throwing it to me with it covering on it. It wasn't that bad of a weapon, but was the best for keeping silent.
Jade thought it would be better off get the others and get into the clothing store. It was a good idea, but we didn't know what was happening at school. We didn't have clothes with us, but we don't know when those things will show up. So we went back to check on everyone, but they seemed worried about something.
"Everything okay?" I asked
"We thought...." Martin said in a worried tone.
"We are okay," I spoke, "but we should get clothes and food."
We all agreed to go, but learning that Marry was in no shape to go inside. So Hayhay decided that she would stay with her and make sure nothing happen to her. Getting off the bus was no problem, but splitting us up was. They thought it was better for both Jade and I choose the building to go into for that moment. Since they thought we had the guns and we would have a better chance to live.
Jade thought it was the best for her to go into the grocery store. Knowing that can goods and anything dry was going to be our friend. So I was stuck with the clothing store to pick up shirts, pants, shoes, socks, and maybe bras and underwear if they had them in stock.
We were lucky that they were not locked like the gun store, but I got an uneasy feeling going in. I had Ace, James, Ben, and Dawn, in other words stuck with a whole bunch of boys. I wasn't happy about having Dawn with us, but we had to stick together. I went to the girl section to grab stuff, but I kept having that cold feeling.
I thought that Dawn was giving me a glare, but I kept hearing growls in the back. I still had the knife and pistel, but I put some of the ammo on the bus. I didn't want to waste all on those things. So I turn to see the boys placing clothes in plastic bags and I did the same. But I handed the bag to James and walked towards the dressing rooms. I could hear movement from inside and I knew it was not one of us.
"Get to the door," I said in a commanding tone. I slowly pulled out the knife and opened the door. Soon as I did a undead body fell out and tried to snap at anything it seen. Without a thought I stabbed it over and over till blood stained my clothes red. A part of me hope that they got wet wipes to clean myself up. But when I got up and heard Jade yelling to get on the bus.
They were here for the dinner bell and it was a good time to leave. We ran and I looked to see more the ten running towards the bus. Having at least five minutes to get in without being left behind. Rubble and car parts were laying everywhere. I knew that I was going to be the slowest, but I wasn't going to die. I forced myself to run and felt pain shoot up. When we got to the bus I made sure everyone got in, but I looked back to see Dawn in fear. Jade tried to called to him, but he didn't move. I forced myself to move, but when I got at least two feet I fell to the ground. Ace and James had to pull me away and onto the bus. I screamed for him to snap out of it. When he started to run, it was too late.
They grabbed him and pulled him to the ground. Ripping parts of his body and screams for help ran through my head. I couldn't save the person I hate....no a human being. At that point Martin started the bus and floor it to Willow.
"Lize?" Hayhay tried to snap me out of it
"I couldn't save him..." I mumbled
"There was nothing you could do," she replied and rubbed circles on my back. But I couldn't except that I didn't save him, all I felt was guilt. It was my fault.
The drive felt longer as we finally parked to change into some better clothes. The boys went first and then us girls. Jade told me that she gotten wipes for me. Sitting there with a blank look as I wipe the blood of my skin and putting a shirt and shorts. I didn't care anymore. I should been the one to die and not Dawn. He had little brothers that was going to need him and now they'll never see him again.
I didn't like being there anymore as we got near to Willow Springs.
