Chapter 38 - Battle for Kaer Morhen

5 Saovine 1191

It's been over a year and a half, almost two years since Saibus, Desmond, and their mentors, Trinity and Leonidas, arrived at Wolf School stronghold, Kaer Morhen. The first light of twilight appears and draws the walls of the school. The sun is setting in the distance, bathing the Blue Mountains in its orange light. The sun gives way to his sister, who begins to illuminate Kaedwen. But the white light from the moon does not reach Kaer Morhen because of the large dark clouds appearing and blocking the moon. This makes Kaer Morhen's sky plunge into darkness.

Saibus is on Kaer Morhen's top floor, on his bedroom balcony. Saibus is now 16 years old and is 1.80m tall. He wears his assassin gear with his senbons and dual blades. Regiis flies over the fortress and its surroundings.

"BOOM"

Saibus looks around the castle when the bedroom door slams open and reveals Trinity in her assassin outfit.

"Saibus, the attack will begin. Go to your position," says Trinity. She does not wait for a response from Saibus and leaves to get ready.

"Fuuu." Saibus inhales, exhales, and takes one last look at the sight in front of him.

Leonidas and Trinity run through the forests around Kaer Morhen, quietly killing those attacking the Wolf School. They have been killing them attacking for several minutes, but that does not change the numbers. There are still thousands of people wanting to destroy the school. And there are not only peasants contrary to what they believed, but there are also deserters, bandits, and apprentice magicians who were attracted by the rewards offered by Raif and his acolytes.

Leonidas even recognized certain groups of mercenaries who Naiz also hired. As a result, there are not just one or two hundred attackers but a thousand scattered around Kaer Morhen.

Trinity POV:

'It never ends, we have been killing our peasants and soldiers for several minutes, and it never ends. There are still people in this area. I need to contact Leonidas to see how to proceed in the situation. '

I look in Leonidas' direction and start talking to him in League Code. We exchange a few words and decide to warn the others and continue killing the enemies in the area as silently as possible before moving on to the next one.

END POV:

Trinity pulls out a small crystal ball from one of her pockets. She injects her magic into it and whispers a few words.

"Naiz also mercenaries, bandits, and deserters. Be careful."

After those few whispers, she stops injecting magic into his hand. In doing so, the light from the tiny crystal ball fades.

South of Kaer Morhen is a river that crosses the Blue Mountains. The witchers of the Wolf School have installed a few fisherman's huts where they store the boats and fishing equipment they use to collect different plants and fish. To make their potions, oils, bombs ...

Several boats approach the shore near Kaer Morhen, each carrying a dozen people armed with pitchforks, swords, axes, and spears. These people are either peasants or soldiers who aim to eradicate the witchers of the Wolf and destroy the stronghold.

The ships dock on the bank, and the soldiers and peasants disembark. The first to land rush in the direction of Kaer Morhen, but they take an arrow in the head or the chest, making them fall to the ground, dead.

The people behind them stopped, stood guard, and looked around to see where the shooters were.

The people in front walked slowly, taking their time and keeping an eye on the surroundings. Then, suddenly, bombs explode under the invaders' feet. The bombs kill more than 50% of the invaders because the latter were all grouped in several groups so that three bombs can kill a group.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH"

"MY HAND, MY HAND!"

"HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE."

The survivors of the bombs launch terrible cries. The bombs caused the disorganization of the few orders in the "ranks" of the invaders.

After the explosions, a cloud of dust rises, blinding the survivors of the explosions.

"FOUSH"

Another set of arrows fly through the cloud, finishing off the wounded.

The cloud slowly falls and reveals a series of craters with bodies and limbs scattered around. There is blood everywhere. Pieces of brain, guts flew and landed in the water, ships, or on trees.

Of the people who have landed on the banks of Kaer Morhen, only about twenty soldiers remain. All the peasants were killed.

The soldiers are divided into four groups of five. The soldiers look around before turning their gaze to one of them, who appears to be the leader of the soldiers who have embarked.

"The witchers have prepared for the attack, be careful. These monsters can easily kill us separately, but they will have a hard time if we stay together. So let's continue by protecting ourselves with the trees." the leader declares before sprinting to the nearest tree and hiding behind him.

The soldiers followed their leader and rushed to the trees for protection.

The soldiers progress slowly through the forest. Looking at each place to see possible traps. The leader in the lead arrives at a watchtower in the middle of the small grove, just a few meters away.

"Chief, we can go up and see the situation from the top." declares a soldier.

The chief nods in agreement, and everyone goes to the tower.

"Part of the group comes with me into the tower while the others stay downstairs."

Part of the soldiers then stays down, while the other goes towards the tower.

They enter and see a long staircase. They borrow it and hear it crack under the weight of their armor. They pass several floors before reaching the tops of the tower. The top is a story with several large windows on each wall to allow maximum viewing.

The soldiers look around the area and see smoke rising from Kaer Morhen.

"The assault on the fortress has already started. The peasants must be setting it on fire. Let's hurry before these peasants take all the loot." the chief said greedily.

The soldiers hurry down.

"CRACK"

"AAAAAAHHHH"

Part of the stairs collapsed and fell heavily to the ground, dragging three soldiers with him. The leader turned and saw a hole in the stairs where the last members of his team were. The soldiers descend and see the overturned bodies of their brothers in arms fallen from the stairs. The bodies have upturned limbs, twisted necks ...

They step over the bodies without a hint of sadness and exit the tower.

Outside, they don't see anyone.

"Robert, Bertrand, where are you?" shouts a soldier.

"What the hell are you guys doing?" shouts another.

No answer comes back to them. The seven soldiers go around the tower and see one of their companions hanging on the wall with an arrow in the heart.

"Whore!" said the chief violently when he saw his man dead.

"Those bastards must have taken them by surprise."

"Hurry, let's hurry, Serc don't forget to set the tower on fire."

"Yes, captain." a soldier replies, pulling out several bottles of oils from inside his leather armor.

The soldiers run towards the fortress as Serc lights a small wick in each bottle before throwing them into the tower with a maniacal laugh.

The soldiers continue their races in the grove before finishing their races in front of the gigantic walls of Kaer Morhen. Unfortunately, the fortress walls are not monitored due to the heavy attack on the main gates.

"Well, let's cut down a tree and kick down the door with it." said the chief.

The soldiers do so and begin to cut down a tree.

"FOUSH"

Two arrows coming from the top of the trees cut through the air and end their courses in the soldiers' heads, cutting the tree.

"What!"

"Who is there? Show yourself, cowards!"

The four remaining soldiers shout in the direction of the forest. They run to protect themselves but couldn't before a flame was thrown over the water, burning them to death.

"BOOM"

"BOOM"

"BOOM"

Powerful explosions are heard throughout the fortress. Gigantic flames result from its explosions. The flames ravage the walls and the stones of the fortress.

Raif, the leader of the wizards who plot against the Wolf Witcher School, is currently in the midst of a battle. He's in one of Kaer Morhen's backyards. He fights Rennes, the head of the school, and Ronan.

Raif sends a wave of his magic to push Rennes back and move him away from him and Ronan.

"Aespar," Raif weakly utters his spell, which draws Ronan towards him.

Ronan is unsettled for a moment before taking advantage of the pull to move even faster towards the wizard.

But pull is not the only spell Raif casts because a black ball appears in his hand. Ronan prepares his attack and using Raif's pull. He increases the speed of his attack. He cuts with his sword. Raif uses the black bullet and collides it with Ronan's sword, blocking Ronan's shot.

The collision between the black ball and the steel sword causes an explosion that raises a cloud of dust. From this cloud emerge two men who are thrown from the said explosion. Raif and Ronan observe each other, which gives Rennes time to join Ronan.

The witchers see that The explosion scorches Raif's hand.

"Ronan, are you okay?" Rennes asks his friend.

"Yes, don't worry, my arm is numb from the explosion, but otherwise, it's okay," Ronan assures us.

"Good, how do you think we should fight," Ronan asks.

Rennes does not answer but exchanges a brief look with his colleague, who smiles at him in response. After this exchange of a few seconds, the two witchers launched themselves towards Raif.

The witchers and Raif string together the blows, the parries, the dodges… After about thirty minutes of combat, the witcher and the magician are in a pitiful state. Raif has a burnt hand, numerous cuts on his body, tearing his clothes. In comparison, Rennes and Ronan have several burns of several degrees on the body and several fine cuts on the arms.

Raif could have easily won this fight, but Ronan and Rennes don't let him do powerful spells because they would take too long to do.

The witchers then see Raif take out a cylinder from his cloak. They wonder about the object and assuming its objective. Finally, they form the distance between them.

Raif throws the cylinder towards the witchers. Surprising the witchers, the cylinder explodes while she is still in mid-flight between Raif and the witchers.

From the cylinder, thick smoke comes out, spreading throughout the area. The smoke blocks the witchers' sight, but thanks to their other senses, including hearing and smell, they know Raif's whereabouts and decide to attack him.

They rush towards Raif and start attacking him from various angles. Roman succeeds in cutting off his arm, but no cry comes out of Raif's mouth, no spur of blood comes out of the severed arm.

Seeing this, the witchers become that something bad is going on. They focus on their senses but cannot smell or hear Raif.

Suddenly a strong wind picks up, sweeping all the smoke and trees in the yard in its path.

The wind crashes against the inner wall of the courtyard, causing the part to collapse. Roman and Rennes look at the stones in pieces on the ground and imagine what would happen to their bodies if the wind hit them instead of the wall.

Both were gloomy expressions. They look around and see Raif a hundred yards away starting a new spell.

They run in his direction and dodge the few spells they receive. Finally, they arrive at Raif's level and resume their assaults.

The witcher's cuts are getting slower and slower due to the loss of blood and their injuries. Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Raif and the witchers know that the fight will soon come to an end.

At this point, one of Ronan's shots gets too slow, leaving an opening for Raif, who grabs her.

The latter materializes a fire lance in his hand and plants Ronan in his heart.

"Nooooooon," Rennes screams at the top of the lungs and violently attacks Raif. Reindeer coughs up blood and falls to the ground, resting in a pool of blood.

Tired and weakened, Raif struggles to defend herself against the attack from Rennes, who no longer even defends herself, receiving all of Raif's attacks.

Unfortunately for Raif, his body does not keep up, and like Ronan, an error occurs, leading to his death by the Reindeer sword, which pierces his heart.

Rennes heaves a heavy sigh before hearing a whisper coming from Raif.

"Sorry, my love, I couldn't avenge you completely." A low whisper from a lonely older adult with a sad expression.

"Blath," Raif whispers one last time before closing his eyes.

Rennes places Raif's body on the ground and sees a strange pink light coming from Raif's right arm. He cuts off his sleeve and sees vines starting from his hand and moving up to his shoulder. The vines are emeralds. They reach Raif's shoulder and continue on their way to the rest of Raif's body, but the pink light stops, stopping the spread of the vines.

In doing so, Raif's converted vine arm turns into a flower petal that flies in the wind.

Rennes is amazed by the magical scene that has just occurred before his eyes notice the same pink light on his right arm. Then, incredulous and in shock, Rennes sees his right arm turn into a petal and fly away.
