Chapter 40 - Assassin

An orange glow emerges from the horizon. The sun slowly begins to rise. The light sunlight reflects on the dunes, which stretch as far as the eye can see. A trail of steps crosses the dunes. Footprints spin towards the horizon where we can distinguish several mountains, the Amell Mountains. The footsteps continue towards the Amell Mountains, and the dunes gradually give way to greenery and land dotted with lakes. Finally, the footsteps stop, but with the direction they have taken so far, we can assume that they are heading towards Assengard, the capital of Nazair, north of Mil Trachta.

In a city on the edge of a huge lake, thousands of people stroll in a public square for a party. A young man visits the festival in the crowd and trades with the small merchants to buy various things. This young person is obviously Saibus, who arrived in Assengard, the capital of Nazair, two weeks ago.

Nazair is located just south of the Amell, accessible from Cintra and Slopes via the Marnadal stairs. Metinna borders the country to the south and Mag Turga to the east.

Most of the fertile land is found along the coastline of the Great Sea. The interior is said to be rocky and arid, except for Lake Muredach and the Yelena Valley.

'Nazair is a lovely country. It has its charm.' Think Saibus as you admire the streets filled with people partying. Saibus smells of a good smell that comes from a street restaurant. He approaches a stand run by an old lady.

"Hello Madam, what are you cooking to give off such a good smell?" Saibus asks. The old lady uses a fan to cool off while answering Saibus.

"Young man, what you see in front of you is owed Magla, an exclusive pastry from Nazair. It is made from honey produced in the region. I made a dough with flour, eggs, milk, and cereal before soaking it in honey. Then I cooked it in orange syrup. This is the best pastry you will eat in your entire life. " said the old woman with a smile and an expression that exudes benevolence and the joy of living.

Saibus looks at the pastry, which has the shape of a rose. Then, after a second reflection on the amount of sugar and the rate of diabetes that this pastry can give, he decides to take one. (AN: if you know Arabic pastries, you know what I'm talking about if not looking for Zlabia.)

"I'll have one then. You sold that dessert very well," Saibus replied.

"Perfect boy, that's two crowns." declares the lady taking a rose and putting it in a napkin.

Saibus puts two wreaths in a bowl on the stand and takes the rose.

"Thank you, ma'am, have a nice day."

"Thank you and to you too, my big one, enjoy the Magla well." said the old lady with a smile. *

Saibus continues his party tour by eating his Magla. In the distance, he sees the palace of the king of Nazair, Altma III. Looking at the palace, Saibus is carried away in his thoughts.

'I have gathered a lot of information during its last two weeks. I got the plans of the palace. I know the teams of guards, their rounds, the habits of the guards. I have gathered all the information necessary to complete my mission. ' Think Saibus while finishing the delicious Magla.

"DONG DONG DONG." The sound of a bell echoes throughout the city. The bell rings nineteen times before stopping. The melody produced by the bell caused a crowd movement in the city. All the people put away their belongings and go home because a curfew has been installed in the city for more than two months because of the high crime that an explosion suffered. The streets are empty, and the city takes on the appearance of war. The city becomes dotted with patrols of Hamads, the king's special guard.

The sun falls asleep, causing the city to lose its last rays.

"Kyak." A hawk cry is heard. From the sky, the hawk can see hundreds of fires light up in the city streets. The falcon flies over the city and watches the city light up like a lighthouse in the middle of the night. The bird roams the sky for about thirty minutes before heading towards the minaret of Assengard Palace.

The falcon roars, surprising one of the guards at the top of the minaret, who immediately turns around, alerting by the cry coming behind him.

"Fuuu" The guard breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the cry came from a simple hawk.

"Ahhhhhaaahhh" Laughter is heard at the top of the minaret. The other guards laugh at the reaction of their colleagues.

"You were afraid of a hawk. You are a weakling," said a soldier.

"You really are a coward. You won't survive in a real battle."

"AhhhAhhh" Other soldiers laugh at the statements of their colleagues.

The soldier's face takes on a sad expression in the face of the statements of his colleagues.

Seeing his face, one of the group's senior members stands up with his mug in his hand. He stands beside the youngster and hits him on the back.

"Don't make that unearthed face. You're a rookie. You just entered the town guard a week ago. Don't worry; it's not uncommon for a rookie to be scared early in his career. However, you will become more confident over time as you gain experience through battles. " says the senior. He gives the recruit a final pat on the back and returns to his seat.

"Come sit with us and play a la carte with us. Maz always bets all his money. Hopefully, you can make a second paycheck."

The recruit accepts the offer and comes to join his colleagues at the table, and they start a game of cards at the top of the minaret.

Night has fallen on the town of Assengard, the capital of Nazair. Despite everything, the streets of the city are lit by rows of torches and braziers. Even at night, the city remains active, but unlike the day when the city's activity is civilian, it is currently military. Many patrols roam the streets of the city in search of the least criminal.

On the roofs of the houses of the city, a shadow streaks in the direction of the king's palace. The shadow dodges the patrols and quickly finds itself on the edge of the palace's protective wall. The shadow stops on the house a few meters from the palace wall. The light from a brazier on the ground reveals the identity of the shadow, which is obviously Saibus.

Saibus stays at the top of the house.

'1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10' When Saibus arrives at 10, he jumps out of the house and arrives above the wall. He looks around, not noticing anyone. He drops into the courtyard of the palace.

Saibus runs silently towards the north tower of the palace. On the way, he meets five guards, but thanks to his experience of assassins and his magic which makes him even quieter and less detectable, he walks by them carefree. Arrived at the foot of the tower, which is connected to the palace by a footbridge, he begins to climb it not to be spotted. He climbs the tower very quickly and efficiently without making unnecessary movements. You can see that he has a lot of experience in urban climbing. In two minutes, he arrives at the top on the last few meters of the tower. Saibus begins to hear screams from the top.

"Ah, you win every time. It annoys me. I resume my shift!" a guard shouted.

"It's not my fault you can't play 421." Replied his colleague.

"There's nothing to know how to play. It's only luck. So here, take my bet and stop pissing me off. Keep the tower. I'm back on patrol." The first guard leaves gruff while the second laughs and continues to play dice alone.

Saibus waits a minute before resuming its ascent. Finally, he climbs the tower of the tower railings.

"dearme," Saibus whispers and hears a thud the next second. He climbs up the railing and sees the guard asleep on a small square table. Saibus passes the guard and takes the footbridge that takes him to the northern part of the castle. The northern part is the office part of the castle. This is the place where the study rooms of the king, heirs, advisers ...

Saibus knows that at this hour, the king has just finished his work in his solar and is going to bathe in one of the many bathrooms in the western part of the castle where the royal apartments are located. He uses his magic of concealment and darkness to sneak up and not leave to be seen or heard by the guards. After five minutes, he finally arrives in the western part of the castle. Entering the western part, Saibus can only tell by observing the number of guards and the decoration that this part is where the royal family lives. The number of guards is tripled, and the decoration is much more loaded.

The decoration in the northern part is luxurious as expected in a palace, but it remains simple, whereas that of the royal apartments is much more extravagant. There is a lot of gold, marble, paintings, mirrors, crystals.

Saibus continues on his way to the king's baths.

King of Nazair POV:

'Ahhhhhh, it feels so good, a nice hot bath after study. Hot baths really are one of the best chances in the world. ' The king is lost in his thoughts while basking in his bath.

'I wonder what the Assassins are going to do after they find out what I've done. According to my spies among the nobles of other realms, it has been months, and there has been no sign of his last. There is no more chance that I will have repercussions. They say they never forget, but it doesn't mean anything if they can't touch me. In reality, the Assassins are just a bunch of hmm hmm. '

A hand comes up and blocks her mouth as the elbow of the hand is pressed against her throat.

A cold blade pierces my heart. I try to struggle, but I am stuck in its grip, unable to get up. Finally, I spit out a mouthful of blood flowing from the gap between his fingers.

I start to close my eyes. Before losing consciousness, I hear a whisper.
