Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 - Descent into Darkness

In the distance and approaching fast, Zura could feel the ground nearing.

'Hm. 3 minutes and a few seconds. In my world, a fall from the stratosphere was recorded to take around 4 minutes and some seconds making this dungeon far larger than I originally thought it to be.'

Due to the fact of the map provided by the system only showing the structure of the dungeon a few miles around Zura, he had no actual way of knowing the size of the entirety of the dungeon. However, just the cliff connecting two levels could be assumed to be at least 100,000 feet deep.

10 seconds to impact…

8 seconds…

5 seconds..

3 seconds.

Zura flipped his body forward and spread his wings immediately halting his downward descent just before his feet could touch the ground and then he pulled his wings around his and landed. Already spreading his senses to interact with the energy in his surroundings.

"Nothing here?" Zura questioned aloud after not sensing any living entities within his vicinity.

He stretched his senses farther, outlining the large expanse to his front that opened up the dark abyss leading to parts unknown.

The entrance to the lower level that he found was both remarkable and unremarkable. It was essentially as if someone drew a straight line the length of the expanse, a couple hundred feet from the ground, and removed everything in between. It seemed as though the dead end that was the cliff wall from which he could only descend, ceased to exist and in its place, there was only thick darkness as far as his eyes could see, despite his ability to see in the dark. It was an unnatural darkness.

He jumped, spread his wings, and began to slowly glide forward.

{Since I can influence the energy around me at will, does that mean that I can be said to be somewhere around the martial master level?}

'Though, I technically did that a little after evolving to tier 1.' Zura thought back to how he merged his soul with the energy of the dungeon in order to pull it in and isolate it.

[Tier 4 beasts can cause alterations to the natural phenomenon, influencing the energy of the world to their will. Host cannot be defined through normal parameters. Unknown.]

"Right." Zura stated. Not bothering to mask the doubt in his voice.

While he did believe that the system could not accurately define him within its parameters, there was not a single second that passed that he did not believe that the system knew far more than it stated. Even, when it volunteered more information.

He knew it was no accident that the system blocked him from accessing his entire spiritual essence as a whole and it was because of that, he believed he could gain complete control.

*Shhhhhh hiiisssssssss* Zura heard it before he felt it.

However even before he felt it, he could surmise what it was.

*shhhhhhhh*

Zura halted in the air, folded his wings, and casually stood there as if he were standing on the ground. It could not be seen, however beneath his feet he willed a platform on which to stand.

Zura could hear it coming closer, however he still could not feel it. He spread his senses farther only to finally realize that the unnatural darkness that blocked his sight from penetrating to far through the dungeon, was also capable of blocking his energy from observing the distance.

'Tricky. It seems that this darkness is composed of a type of energy that I cannot manipulate.'

*Sshhhhhh* The sound of the large beast dragging its body across the ground of the dungeon grew ever closer. Zura estimated to it was no more than 80 feet from his location at that moment, however he still could not see it. That was, right up until the slithering suddenly stopped and the next moment he saw a large mouth with two fangs that made his look like a new born baby's emerging from the dark heading straight for him, looking to swallow him whole.

"You sure about that? I'm a whole lotta meal."

A wide grin etched across the face of the bat as it spread its wings and awaited the collision.
