Chapter 5 - Future Wife?

Alexander Residence

After Mother explained to me her purpose, Mother took me to the dinning room. So here I was now, sitting at the dining table with many dishes served on the table.

At my house at the moment gathered two families where it involved me and a rather beautiful woman, who was currently sitting across from me.

So who was this girl?

Precisely when my mother and I met at the intersection between the stairs and the dining room, Mother enthusiastically mentioned that there was a meeting where she said she had found a ideal wife for me, well..., a ideal for Mom to be exact.

I didn't expect the news of my break up with my lover... No, I mean with Zoya, would reach Mom's ears so quickly. It had to be Eros.

Damned Eros and his stinky mouth. Insolent friend, how could he tell my Mother about this problem.

Yes, that was definitely him. Who else if it was not Eros, and as soon as Mother received information about my breakup with Zoya from Eros, she immediately looked for a future wife for me.

"If she is already like this, what can I do. It's useless to argue. I love Mom very much and I don't want to be a disobedient child," I thought to myself when I looked bored at the atmosphere and the people around me.

At the end of the dining table sat my Father, who was talking to an uncle, who I guessed that man was the woman's father because their faces looked almost the same. Meanwhile, Mom was chatting happily with a fashionable looking aunt. Their conversation sounded very exciting, different from me and the woman who was said to be my future wife.

We both just looked to the left and right, looking at our respective parents. Without any intention to say at each other or start a conversation.

Hm.... Actually this was because our parents said that we should get acquainted without intermediaries.

What did they mean by that?

Suddenly I heard a reprimand from my mother, which made me who was initially busy with the dessert in front of me, immediately looked at my mother with a stiff smile.

"Glenn, why don't you start talking to Kania, and approach her. You two are getting married soon," Renata said with an undeniable facial expression.

The look in the eyes that Mother gave, really made me want to bury myself right now.

"Huft.... What is this? Do I really have to get married in such a short time, even though I have just met my future wife. Oh, what a cruel mother!" I thought to myself.

But of course, I didn't say out loud what I was thinking, instead I said...

"Hmm, yes Mom," I said in a tone made as natural as possible.

Then not wanting to be watched by them while talking to her, I decided to take her to another place, so that we could have more freedom when we talk.

I turned my gaze towards the woman named Kania. Incidentally she was also looking at me, when I got a reprimand from my mother a few moments ago.

"Kania." I called her name and looked at her with a look that luckily she understood.

She nodded, stood up, and followed behind me. The two of us walked a few steps apart, but I didn't care about that. For me, it was up to her what she wanted. Most importantly, I just wanted to avoid my mother's gaze as well as from the series of sentences that ended up cornering me.

The front porch was my choice at this time. I invited her to sit on a chair but unfortunately the atmosphere became even more awkward as still no one started to speak.

Was I really a man who could not talk easily at a first time meeting, so that I could not create a relaxed atmosphere?

While I was still busy with my thoughts, I heard a cough from the woman beside me, um.... What was her name again? Kana, Kaina ah.. No, it was Kania. I mean, I heard Kania clear her throat, before calling my name in her usual tone. It seemed that she was not a shy woman.

"Hm... It's Glenn, right?" Kania asked, making me immediately turn my gaze towards her and nod in agreement to what she asked.

"Hmm, nice to meet you," I replied curtly.

The atmosphere returned to awkwardness after I only responded coldly.

"All right, Glenn, can you take a moment to let go of your indifference and be friendly to your future wife?" I thought encouraging to myself.

"Kania, are you still studying or working?" I asked and suddenly I cursed myself with the unimportant question just now.

Of the many questions, why was that questions the first time that came out of these lips. Oh my God.... I wish I could smack my forehead against the wall right now.

"Ah! I have just started working," Kania answered, luckily she was willing to answer my unimportant question.

"What about you? I heard from Aunt Rena, she said you started your own business, didn't you?" Kania continued asking and I nodded, confirming what Kania asked.

"Hmm, it's just a small business and not much," I explained condescendingly.

A sweet laugh came out of her lips, when she heard my humble words and suddenly I thought, maybe this Kania could be the last woman for me because she was the only one who laughed at my cold voice.

"Don't be humble like that, Glenn. I also heard from many media, Glenn Alexander is a newcomer in the business world who is successful with his business," Kania said, in between her melodious laughter, making me ...

Well, to be honest, I didn't know how to respond whether I had to be embarrassed or even sarcastically reply because she already knew about me and was still provoking me to explain about myself. But she was truly a woman who was good at finding things to talk about and I didn't think it was wrong if I opened my heart to this woman.

Besides she looked pretty in every way and of course, Mom wanted me to marry her.

"You already know? It seems you find out a lot about me," I said with a sarcastic statement and unexpectedly, I thought she would dodge but she did not, instead she nodded.

"Umh.... I'm a picky person about anything. I have to know how and what kind of people I will be friends with. So, I always find out before accepting."

She was a perfect type of person. But did she also know, about the slanted news circulating that I liked men or about me changing partners quickly?

I hoped not. I did not want Mom to put on a scary face again.

"I see, so.... What do you know about me?" I asked in response to her words.

She put on a thinking face and looked at me with a frown. For so many women I met, she had quite a lot of expressions and I saw this as a plus for her, to be able to make me accept her with pleasure.

"Well, you..., humm.... You pioneered from the bottom to reach the top. You are handsome, always surounded by many women and you are also achievers. That's what I take the outline of each article," Kania replied after thinking.

Huft.... Thankfully, she did not read any weird news about me and this relieved me. Alright, I decided to accept this matchmaking. The woman seemed to be someone I could spend my life with. So about anything else, I did not care as long as mom and dad were happy.

Now we started to enjoy talking to each other. We talked about many things and occasionally she would laugh as we joked with each other. I hoped that Kania would be really the last woman for me.

But if in the end we ended up not being together in this matchmaking, then it was certain that I was jinx, because in my life I had been abandoned for the seventh time by a woman in the near future. And that was not funny at all.

"But still, I will leave everything to God," I thought praying in between conversations with Kania, my mother's chosen future wife.

To be continued.
