Morning again. Why do I keep waking up? There is nothing worthwhile about it. Guess I better get ready for school since I'm still here.
I grab a black shirt and pair of jeans. Undress from my princess nightgown. It's powder blue. I love its smooth silkiness. Pulling on my jeans I start to realize I'm hungry. This is going to be a long day.
Once my shirt is on I pull on a pair of socks and black shoes. Lastly, my big black jacket. I place my long blonde hair into a tight bun after brushing.
Exiting the room I share with my younger sister I stop by the refrigerator. With a heavy sigh I open the fridge up and look inside. Dad's four ham sandwiches are gone. Good. He remembered his lunch. I look at the milk. Less than a quarter left. Shit. I'd have liked to have some for breakfast. Gotta save it for dinner. I shut the fridge door and open the freezer. We wont eat tonight if I dont pull out the meat to thaw.
I select frozen chicken legs and place them in the sink. My stomach rumbles, reminding me that today is going to suck.
I leave the kitchen and enter the livingroom. Glancing towards my parents room, I see the door ajar. Always. I approach it a d ease it shut. Its just past 6 in the morning and I'm ready to go to school. Gotta wait til just past 7 to go out to the bus stop. Will they even pick me up today? Dunno.
Turning away I walk towards the bathroom to relieve myself and brush my teeth. I dont bother to look into the mirror. I hate seeing myself.
With my business with the bathroom completed, I went to my mother's computer and got on. I checked my social media account briefly then pulled up the anime I was watching.
I think longingly about the adventure I had last night. Stretching my legs and running through the trees. Finding my friends and having fun for once.
Time passed too quickly. It's time to grab my backpack and head to the busstop.
Waiting outside, I drop my bag on the ground then lean against the light pole. Watching the four lanes of traffic go by. After ten minutes I see the bus stop at the large group of kids two blocks ahead of my stop. Secretely, I'm hoping for it to pass me up again.
I lean down and lift my heavy bag. I don't have a school locker. That costs $10. $10 is three packs of discounted meat and some noodles... Placing my backpack on my back I stare at the now moving bus. I dont have luck today. It stopped to pick me up after navigating the heavy morning traffic.
Climbing the steps, I look around. Yay. Full bus. And no ones making easy room. I'm 5'2". Blonde, hazel eyed, and maybe 99 lbs. Its not like I take up much room.
I spot a seat with one person that isnt hogging all the space and quickly take it. Sitting on the far edge to not bother the occupant. Doesnt work. He makes a disgruntled sound and glares.
Keep whining, jerk. I'm not moving.
30 mins later we arrive at school. I quickly hop up so I dont make him more aggitated. I look longingly at the school cafeteria for a second before walking towards the gates of the school.
I sniff at the air delicately. It's going to be another scorcher today. I look at my usual corner apprehensively. Good. No ones there.
I quickly set my pack down. I take out the novel I'm reading then lean against my bag. I don't have friends, so there's no better way to pass the time until 8 hits and I can get to class.
To my left I hear a fight break out. I glance up from my book abd watch a moment. One student scuffed another's shoes. A high offense made worse because the shoes were pristine white.
I sigh and hope the gate will be open soon. Continuing to read my novel, I listen for signs of approach. I hope they pretend I don't exist.
Somehow, being in a school in a large city is harder than being in a suburban city. More guns and knives. More violence.
The bell rings and the gates swing open. security breaks up the fight finally. I ignore it and speed walk towards my first class. Language arts.
Taking my assigned seat, I open my novel back up. I'm not participating today, either. I hate this place.
Bell rings again, signifying everyone needs to be in class. As soon as everyone is seated roll call is called. Then the teacher asks that homework be passed forward.
Having completed it in class as usual, I actually have it ready. I collect the students papers that were passed forward and pass mine forward, too.
Then I drown out the teachers voice and begin reading once more. Listening for key words like my name or "homework". I atleast look at the board if the teacher is writing.
After a while, homework is assigned and the teacher sits to grade last nights homework before we're released to another class. Being a sophomore sucks just as much as every other grade. Can't wait to graduate and move away. Maybe my Nanny will take me in for a while like she did for my half brother.
A gal can dream, ya know? I don't think she actually will though. She hates my dad almost as much as I do.
Second class is Geography. I completely ignore everything in this class. Even the homework or group projects. Not that anyone wants to work with the only white kid in class.
The girls sitting next to me are laughing and speaking spanish. Cutting glances towards me. Ah. Looks like the teacher was talking to me.
I look up at him blankly. He says, "Ah, Miss Sabbath. Thank you for joining us. Can you answer the question on the board?"
I continue staring at him with a dead fish expression. Silently willing him to buzz off.
"Its great that you like to read, but you need to participate or you'll fail my class. Is that what you want? To fail?" He demands.
"I seriously don't care bout geography or anything you say." I replied deadpan. The other students found this hilarious, which had two effects. 1) Further irritating the teacher. 2) Making me wish I'd kept my big mouth shut.
The teacher angrily moved onto a different student. Muttering something about having a word with me after class.
Not that I'll stay after class. Is he dumb? I roll my eyes to myself and settle back to reading my novel. The bell rings eventually and I leave the classroom with the other students. My next class is science. I only do homework sometimes for this class and tests. Again I just read through the class. The teacher has wisely given up by now.
Geometry is next. Usually I like math. Weird, right? Thing is... Geometry makes no sense whatsoever. I'm more of an algebra person. I'd be in algebra 2 if I was still in my last school...
Lunch is next. I immediately go to my corner and pull out my lunch for the day. A candy bar. I felt so hungry today. I took two bites then wrapped up the bar and put it away. Then I got to the water fountain and gulp as much water as I can.
The novel I'm reading today is about Highlanders- Scottish hunks. I love it. The ML is so sweet and kind to the MC. I wish I could be lived like this....
The rest of the school day passes the same way and I return home. It's almost 4 when I get there. My mother is playing World of Warcraft- WoW- on the computer.
"I'm home." I say. Not expecting a reply. I drop my bag and sit on the couch to relax.
My mom picks up her glass and takes a drink. Then she looks at me. "Hey, Bug. Will you make some tea?"
I sigh and get up. Its time to make dinner anyways. Cause it has it be done before my little sister, Emily, gets home.
I get the tea started brewing, then check the chicken legs. Thankfully they thawed. Now to get out the largest pan. Check. Wash hands. Yup. Vegetable oil goes in pan, 1/4th inch. Check. Prepare the flour with seasonings. Check. Coat chicken legs. Check. Wash hands and get out the canned corn. It goes into small pot, drained, with butter and a pich of salt. Got it. Lastly I need to prepare the large pot for mashed potatoes. I figure I wont need to use all the milk if thats the case.
I don't start it yet though. Cause it'd be done to fast and get cold. Then I'll be in trouble. I checked on the tea. Almost ready.
With the oil in the pan heated, I place the floured chicken legs in it. Wash hands, then I finish the tea by sweetening it and putting it in the fridge to cool.
Flip the legs. Put on lid, partly askew. Check time. 10 Minutes till Emily is home. Dad gets home at 5. Dinner will be done on time.
When its 2 mins till, I go outside and wait for Emily's bus. Telling my mom to mind the food. As if she will. Bah.
Emily's bus arrives on time, I greet her with a smile and usher her inside. Letting her know whats for dinner and there's fresh tea.
She's happy its fried chicken. She greets mom and spills bout her day at school. "After dinner," Emily says, "Can my friend come over?" Mom doesnt care, says "Sure."
Emily takes the cordless phone into our room to call her friend. I check on dinner. Thankfully, it didnt get scorched. I'd get in trouble....
I start setting the table for Emily and I. Dad will eat at the couch and Mom at her desk. Its just how it is.
I realize I forgot to start the mashed potatoes. I hurry to turn on the burner. I bite my lip highly concerned. Dinner isnt gonna be on time. Shit. Shit. Shit.
I turn it up higher than normal. Hoping the water, milk and butter will boil faster. I get Dad's water bottle from the fridge and place it next to his spot. Fill Mom's cup with tea. Fill cups for Emily and I. Check for dishes around the house. Hurry to check potatoes.
The door opens cause Dad's home. He doesnt say much initially. Brings his lunchbox into the kitchen and places it the same place as always. "Thanks for lunch Babydoll." he says. He frowns a little that his plate hasnt been made and I'm only now finishing the potatoes.
Thankfully, he doesnt react further. Just goes and begins watching TV. I make up Emily's plate first. Then Dad's. Then Mom's. Lastly my own. Emily and Dad gets three chicken legs. Mom and I get 1. I give all three hearty amounts of mashed potato and corn. Emily loves mashed potatos.
I frown to myself, looking at my plate. Then I serve Emily, Dad, then Mom before sitting with my measely meal. I kept the smallest leg. The least potato and least corn. So they'd all have enough to eat. Emily takes her plate and drink into the living room to eat and watch TV.
I'm left alone. I pick at my meal until i feel full. Then off Dad what's left. He takes it.
I then get started making his four ham sandwiches for his lunch tomorrow. Then start on dishes.
Next I check the laundry baskets. Gotta do laundry now. They're full. I go outside for a bit after starting a load and getting my cd player. It has a radio function. I wish I had a MP3 player. They look so cool.
I find a spot to listen to my music when Emily and her friend comes to the back yard. Then Mom comes to the door to let me know the washer stopped.
"Yeah? It stopped? switch the load then!" I growl to myself. I miss my dogs. Sighing I called out, "Coming!" and headed inside to handle the laundry.
It's barely 7 and I'm tired. 5 hours to go. 2 till bedtime. It's rediculous for a 16 year old to have a 9 o'clock bedtime. It is what it is.
By 8 Emily's friend goes home and Emily is reminded to do homework. I've folded a load of dried clothes and seperated them. waiting on next load to be done.
30 mins later I'm exhausted and go to bed. I fall asleep after a bit. I'll be up soon. After all, there's 3 hours to go....
