Chereads / Night of Lycan / Chapter 4 - Plans Change

Chapter 4 - Plans Change

I opened my blurry eyes at midnight. Feeling heavy from the trauma just hours later, I hauled my body out of bed. Why do I do these things?

Ah well. Time to get to business. I follow the same patern as usual. Sneaking out of my room and into the kitchen area which attaches to the back door.

I wasn't careful. My mom is getting tea from the fridge. I duck back and freeze. Listening as she fills her cup and puts up the pitcher away. She sighed a lightly before going back to her computer.

Not thinking much of it, I slipped out the backdoor and ran to the back of the yard. There I felt and icy chill grip my left forearm by my elbow.

I paused and looked at my arm. "Fantastic, Charlie. But I still need to go. Ask Al about the impotance of being there for your friends."

The chill slowly faded. Immediately I shifted my appearance to that of my Night self. I felt a little guilty towards Charlie, but he should give up and leave already. He's dead, after all.

I guess I'll explain. When my mom was 18 she and some friends played with an ouiji board. The answers they recieved was Charlie's real name. His nickname of Charlie. His age, 39 at death, and that he is in love with my mom.

Charlie has followed mom since that night. Even saved my life, I suppose. While Mom was pregnant with me she got into a car accident. Due to Charlie kicking the seat repeatedly she had put a seatbelt on. She never wore it before. The emergency personnel told her the seatbelt saved us.

Al's story is sad. He was an old friend of my Dad's. My dad was traveling with some friends, he'd said, when a crow flew into the window. He says that he knew someone he knew was gonna die due to that.

A week later he woke feeling a force chocking him. He was startled and confused. He saw nothing. After the sensation faded, one of his brothers had called him.

The conversation was short. Al, his friend, had drowned in the same lake they always swam in together. Except Dad wasn't there for the first time. Dad immediately felt guilty. He wasn't there. Why wasn't he there?

He'd moved to another state. A full 24 hours of a drive away. He couldn't even make it back for the funeral to carry the casket.

Grim, huh? Al's followed him since that day. Al grab's my right arm if I'm in danger. Charlie warns me with my left arm.

Normally, I try to be more polite towards them. They didn't ask to be dead, after all.

I continued on my way towards the location to begin my mission. The warning from Charlie that my careful plans have been dashed I shifted to my lycan form much sooner than I'd initially intended. Its smaller and more agile after all.

It doesnt take long for me to reach the starting location. i scented the air. Vague smell of blood. Yum.

Looking around I see more guards thank usual. This is doing to be difficult.. At least I managed to be downwind from them.

I snuck away almost running into Shadow. I swiped at him with my paw before heading towards a river bank. Shadow followed to me, confused. "What's going on?" He asked quietly.

"More dogs." I growled. I started rolling in the mud to mask my scent. I found a particularly smelly patch, gagged, and rolled in it. Perfect.

Watching me, Shadow asked "Need to get together with Senna?"

"No. I'll still do what needs to be done. I can't let you in, though. I also need to find a different way in. I think my plan was shared. Maybe, tell Senna that?" I knew Senna would have shared the plan with Nessa and Shadow. Nessa was my issue.

Stinkified as I was, I started towards the walls. Staying close to the ground, basically crawling.

Listening for any unexpected sounds, I finally spotted my new entry. I was on the opposite side I was supposed to enter now. A crack is there. With only a bit of digging I can wiggle in.

Getting to work, I do my best to quickly and quietly complete my new task. I hear people moving above me. I ignore my urge to hide. It won't get my work done.

Checking my hole, I attempt to squeeze in. Ruh roh. Puppy stuck time. Shiiiit. I start twisting and straining trying to get free.

Just my effing luck. I glanced around in a panic. I see guards in various places. I can also see the prisoners. Our people. And again I am the failure.

I feel tears welling up as I struggle. I shift my body in an unintentional and partly painful way and PLOP! I got through. Thank the gods! yes!

I start to prance for just a moment, celebrating, then realize where I was and what I was doing. I froze and looked around. Luck again on my side, no one noticed.

I sneak around a couple of buildings before hearing a howl split through the night. Senna has my info and is acting early. Good enough I guess.

I get closer to our people. The guards are coming closer to the prisoners. My suspicions are cemented in my mind.

I spun away immediately and raced towards the western gate. Spotting the mechanism used to open and close the gate I dash forward to open it.

I don't think they were informed correctly of my size and strength. The mechanism broke as soon as I pounced it. It snapped loudly, and whipped upwards. I barely dodged it. Think of a castle type setting. This is what it is. It's old and abandoned by Day. At Night the West Side uses it.

Anyhow, the gates lurched open and I gave a breif bark to notify my allies of the open gate. Unfortunately, the sound of my bark and the broken gate mechanism also allerted the enemies of my exact location.

I prepared to be attacked and to defend myself. However, the black blur that Shadow is darted before me. He must have been sent to stay closer to the walls.

Senna and our army dashed in soon after before the enemy reached us and the fight was on.

I know my duty. I charge forward dodging teeth and paws. Biting tails as I ran by. My small size allowed for a much more difficult target for the meandering blunderheads. Reaching our captured men, I got to work. I froze the chains and locks before headbutting and shattering the metal.

Gods, I love my Night body.

I direct the freed ones to immediately go home. Or face very creative punishments.

Last one freed and escaped and I go join Senna's side. She was facing a larger opponent. I wasn't worried... Initially.

Most of our people had left with the prisoners. I saw a woman in human form approaching Senna's back. I see red flash before my eyes as I catch her scent and spot the knife.

"Nessa!" I snarled. I lunged at her knife hand. She kicked me, sending me a good distance into a very solid building. My head bounces off it as I hit and I land with a whoosh of air escaping with a weak whimper.

Senna had whirled around in time to see this. She loses her mind and rushes to my side shifting to human with tears brimming. I'm not moving. Stunned. She can't see me breathing through her teary eyes. She thinks that little kick killed me.

An much more serious threat is approaching. I'm not with it enough to respond yet. Senna is blind to it in her grief. The larger opponent has backed off. Nessa has attacked Senna's back. Stabbing and hitting her.

Senna ignores it until the very second I gasp for air. Recovering I whirl my head towards Nessa and launch myself once more. My jaws snap shut around her knife weilding arm and my eyes lock onto an unexpected intruder.

The Blue wolf who'd tried to possess Senna.

Senna, recovering but dazed, ended Nessa without a glance. her eyes now on that damn bastard.

Her secret? She was born a vampire through Vlad Tepes himself. Ol' Blue is the monster who bit her and tried to possess her. He turned her into a lycan like me.

With my enemy dead I release her arm and turn towards Ol' Blue. Senna realized my intent to fight immediately. She shifted to wolf, snatched me up by the scruff and ran.

She didn't stop until we were for sure not followed. Then she collapsed. Her wounds being a bit much by this point. All the while I'm waving my paws trying to argue the treatment and get to my prey.

Knowing he was likely to have retreated by this point I stay by her side. "You were right.... About Nessa...." She says after a bit.

I scoffed and said "Duh. Listen to me sometime."

Nikki is my last issue. But Senna starts shaking her head. She still trusts that Nikki is innocent, despite Nessa's betrayal.

After a good rest we look to the sky. Its time to go back. Close to being late. We seperate and return to our homes. We'll talk bout it probably in the evening.

For now, I have a miserable Friday to survive.
