Chapter 11 - The Demon’s Inner Thoughts

//This is a partially bonus chapter of Fenrir's perspective. I got a notifcation my novel will be on the featured tab on the 12th, so here's to celebrate.

Somewhere in the distant forest, stood Fenrir covered in blood, his once angel-like appearance no longer. Walking over the corpses he brushed his messy bangs out of the ways of his eyes, which were glowing a bit of a dark blue.

Walking forward, he casually yawned while pointing one of his claws towards the last man in the group, paralysed in fear and cowering in front of a tree. "I'll give you one minute, be happy. Why were you trying to sneak into the castle?" He asked.

The group he had just slaughtered were definitely not apart of the Aezirian empire from their looks and clothing amongst all the people they had passed on their way to the capital, he noticed.

"Please don't kill me!" The man begged repeatedly, while Fenrir ignored his pleas, growing much more agitated by the second. Perhaps he shouldn't of just killed them at once, this one seemed stupid.

Stretching his hand forward, he pointed it towards the man's neck. Unlike the rest of his body, his hand were covered in fur and looked thicker and longer. Instead of fingers, they were replaced with long and sharp claws which were dripping with blood.

"Answer." He ordered, his voice deep with a slight growl. He wasn't that far from the balcony he just jumped off of, and if his assumption were correct, it would be a major pain for him to deal with.

Wincing as one of the claws nearly sliced his neck open, the man spilled everything, in hopes of even a little mercy. "His majesty had heard the future queen of Uriean was the representative visiting Aeziran. If she died and Aeziran were to blame, Uriean would go to war with them as well." He gulped, as Fenrir's claw dug into his mostly torn cloak and lifted him.

"You're not all, are you?" He asked, as the man shook his head violently. The numbers were only five people, there's no way it would be so easy.

Scared, the man answered. "We are the assassins, but there are some spys and the second group." Before he could finish, Fenrir thrusted his entire hand through the man's chest and pulled out, letting the body fall to the ground.

Humming, he licked the blood as he reverted his hand to his normal humanoid form, gazing at the corpses around his feet. "If there are spies, it's likely the servants. I'll just have to kill them." He thought, while contemplating when the second group would come.

From the capital to Vraxus would take around three days, if there's no words in three days they might send men, or maybe they had a signal for a second group to show they succeeded, and if they didn't, the second group would go forward.

As the different theories rushed through his head, he decided against thinking too hard. He was going to be Estella's personal knight, he could easily kill those near her in the claims of defense.

It didn't matter what the Vraxians knew about Aesterix, that guy could die for all he cared. The spies were a him issue, if a magic user can't win a war, what was the point of having magic?

Leaning down, he shifted his entire form into that of a large beast like dog. His fur was a pale golden colour, a little lighter than his blond hair, along with the same shade of blue his eyes had while glowing earlier.

Picking up the bodies into his mouth, he devoured them all whole, without a need to even chew them as the blood beneath him began to disappear. Those eaten by demons would disappear without a trace, with him absorbing the blood, which fueled his magical energy even further.

Jumping up into a taller branch, he quickly made his way through the forest surveilling, trying to spot any Vraxians or suspicious individuals nearby before he would head back and check on Estella.

It was quite bold of them to presume she wouldn't be able to defend herself, since she was a magic user, he thought. Though after seeing her magic first hard, she was pretty weak he had to admit.

That's when it clicked, they must of known Estella wasn't great at using magic, but how would they know that? The thoughts raced through his head as his search got faster, before quickly turning back and heading straight towards the castle to make sure to check up on her.

He knew she could defend herself, she could yell, she was smart, he already killed the nearest assassins, but apart of him felt like he just had to make sure she was really truly fine, without even knowing why.

She was merely a human he had met no more than a week ago, but it angered him at the thought someone was planning to kill her, perhaps because he knew that Uriean would do nothing in retaliation from the way she and her brother had described them. From the way it sounded, the prince would be glad his fiancé died so he could engage another woman.

She was the first human he met that had pure confidence in summoning, while also being kind in her own sense for those around her. She wasn't annoying and loud, nor demanding.

She could of easily killed those around, or stick her nose up at them, but she didn't. As much as she acted like the cold and mean type, he couldn't even smell an inch of bloodlust on her. Perhaps, he truly was curious about her unpredictable behaviour, she was genuinely interesting to him.

Human lives were short, he knew that. She would die eventually, but he'd wish for the day to come only after he'd enjoyed himself enough, she was the first exciting person he had ever met since the head of the Von Blackwood family, and that was enough reason for him to convince himself to stay and protect her for now.

As he lept onto the balcony, his eyes glowed as he looked at the door wide opened. Nearly breaking the door he rushed in while still in his beast form and surveyed the room, growling rather loudly.

Slowly coming to his sense, he realised there was no one in the room as he heard a small groan from Estella, who got up and sleepily rubbed at her eyes.

Yawning, she groggily looked at him, before blinking in sudden surprise. "Am I still dreaming?" She asked aloud looking at the beast form of Fenrir.

Taking note of her comment, he looked down at himself and reverted back into his humanoid form, his clothes back on his body and all dried of blood, including his skin and hair.

"Oh, so that was you. Since you woke me up with your growling, you'd better have a good reason." She made a lazy comment before getting up and taking a seat on her chair, pointing at the seat across from her to sit.

Sighing in relief, he took a seat across from her and put on his signature smile, deciding against telling her anything, from the assassins to his worries about her.

He was a demon after all, he didn't need to tell a human he was worried about them. She would probably make fun of him for that, he thought. Though that little voice in his head said he just didn't want her to worry when she just wanted to be happy.

"Why'd you leave the door open? It's quite cold at night." He took to scolding her instead, making her roll her eyes as if the answer were obvious.

"It's for when you decide to come back in, I knew you'd come back before morning so I kept it open." She retorted before leaning forward excitedly, giving him a bad feeling.

"So you do have a beast form? Can I pet it? Is it like a huge dog? I've always wanted to pet a large malamute." She began to ramble, leaving him amused. Of course she would want to pet his large beast form and call him a demon, a dog.

He was amazed that she had no sense of fear in the slightest after seeing him like that, before Aesterix barged into the room quite loud with a sword pointed forward.

"I heard a loud thud and then growling, Estella are you okay?" He asked as he pointed his sword towards Fenrir, who was talking to Estella.

Just as he was about to lunge forward Hyre and Ivonne grabbed him from behind and began to hold him back, confusing Fenrir. "What's his problem now?" He thought, despite the whole issue being his fault in the first place.

"What's that bastard doing with my sister, alone at night, while she's in nightware and he's in some revealing outfit!" He yelled, trying to using his magic as Estella intervened to go calm him down.

As realisation struck, his face reddened like an apple. He was so worried about her he didn't even notice his or her clothes, but now that he thought about it he was reminded of how nice of a figure she had, and in such thin clothes, and waiting for him. Did she have any common sense?

Stuck in a daze, he sat on the chair trying to forget everything while Aesterix angrily yelled, and Estella had to solve it. Sighing, she shook her head. She doesn't even get to go to sleep peacefully, huh? She thought.
