Chapter 13 - The Villainess and Magic

Excitement tingling in his stomach, Fenrir asked her to continue, a good feeling that the next thing she said would be semi-crazy to any normal person's standard.

"You won't be paying for glass?" He asked as he took a bite of his sandwich, trying not to get too relaxed, though.

Wiping her mouth, she nodded. "Wouldn't it be fun if I had an official glassmaker," She asked, before continuing. "My windows and glasshouses won't be cheap, you know."

Although she could spend excessively, she would rather have her glass easily accessible whenever she needed, which gave her a different method of acquiring it.

"What exactly will you do, then?" He questioned a possible thought in mind, though the anticipation was killing him a little bit, much to her own entertainment.

Cutting into her dessert, she brought it to her lips to eat, teasing him a little with the silence. She sure knew how to keep people hanging. "We're going to find ourselves a fire using elf." She claimed.

Although he expected her to say something about magic, why specifically an elf? "Wouldn't any fire user do?" He questioned.

"I said I want a glassmaker, not some amateur." She scolded him for interrupting her before she finished what she wanted to say.

Shaking her head, she shushed him with her finger. "In my book, it mentioned a certain bird like beast that lived with elves, and elves just so happened to be good crafters. When I pulled up a random page to find birds, I saw it only briefly, and now that you've reminded me about glass, it's a great idea, right? If an elf is a good at crating, and they're good with fire, they could easily learn to mold and make glass." She sounded so satisfied with herself.

On one hand he was deeply impressed that she remembered some casual comment in a book, and thought as far as getting a race that was good at crafting, on the other, "How will you convince them to make glass?" He asked.

Closing her eyes, she thought for about two minutes. "I figured it out. I'll split the profits of the greenhouses thirty to the elf, thirty to me, and forty to divide amongst all the farmers per greenhouse." She explained, if she made the elf's pocket thrive, surely they'd come along.

This was also a win for her with gaining profit, and the farmers although at forty despite dividing, they'd still be paid well, even more than other farmers, depending on how she charges the trade.

With the income she gets from the crops, she would also put that back into building her territory, in order to grow it the best it can be. Happy people means no problems, no problems means no work.

If her town was pretty, it would also lead to tourism as well, and that would lead to more money. She'd need to find a way to make it habitable, but special. Being a duchess was hard work, she thought.

Pausing for a second, he had to ask the obvious. "Would an elf's fire really be that hot?" He asked, not trying to rain too hard on her parade.

While furious nodding, she explained her idea. "The Von Pryrrhos family's fire magic is already enough to cause mass destruction. Now imagine an elf who has lived for over a century, is stronger than a human, and has experience with fire?" She concluded. It did make some sense, but they'd probably take awhile to find.

"I've been wondering, but could you tell me more about your ability to use magic first, I'm simply curious?" She asked out of the blue. Thinking about it, what could a demon do considering he's shown more than just one type.

"Each demon uses a different primary magic and knows other basic magics such as my clothing transformation, barriers, absorption, memory deception. Mine is a transformation as you've seen from my beast form." He explained, trying not to talk too loudly while they were in the restaurant.

Although she wondered about what half those basic magics were exactly, she decided to let him continue. Hearing her hum in acknowledge, he continued. "The stronger our magic powers are, the more terrifying we get. As you've seen from my beast form, it's rather large. I can also jump pretty high and quickly, my growl is enough to scare any wild animal." He finished.

"I want to see, will you show me your dog for later?" She asked, remembering his shiny fur she so badly wanted to pet. Hissing he claimed he was a beast and not a dog, and no she could not see.

Finishing up their light meal, Estella called for the waitress to pay and headed out. "It's still the afternoon. Let's go." She said without telling her where, walking off again.

For someone with a target on her back, she sure does wander off a lot, he thought as he hurriedly followed after her. "Where to?" He questioned.

"I want a book about other races but I don't want to ask the maids. I don't want anyone to know about my plans yet." If anyone were to try and stop her before she started, it would be a major pain. Once she finishes her knight group, who would tell her to disband it?

Feeling proud being the only one she could confide in at the moment, a cocky look plastered onto Fenrir's face while they made their way through many bookshops, trying to find just what she needed.

After another hour of searching, they found a small and quiet bookshop that was filled with a large variety of books. Books about magic, beasts and other races. "You could read this one." He pointed to a book, not sure what exactly she'd want.

"Pick whatever you want and I'll buy it." She said without turning, looking through the shelves to find the ones she was looking for but getting distracted repeatedly by all the other cool book covers.

Finally picking out all their books, Estella went to the front counter where an elderly woman smiled. "It's rare for anyone to come here, let alone a noble." She made small talk as she slowly wrote down the prices of all the books.

"It's such a nice shop, what a shame. The world is vast and has many things that aren't taught or talked about enough." Estella replied, slightly cursing the game for never going in-depth about the other races or how many there were.

The old woman chuckled. "Thank you. I'm glad the younger generation still has at least one interested person. Just because we don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist." She reached underneath the counter.

"Looking at the boy reminds me of this, you can have it for free." She said, putting the book in the pile as as she finished writing the prices of all the other books.

The book was old and worn, but looked cherished. "Are you sure?" Estella asked, clearly telling that the woman must like the book. As the old woman nodded, Fenrir picked up the books.

Paying for the other books, she and Fenrir left the shop. She really wanted to read or know what the book was about, but Fenrir insisted on carrying it.

"Can't you at least tell me what that book is about?" She asked, while it was his turn to tease her for what she did to him earlier.

"Are you curious? You can find out later, don't worry, it's not that long of a wait." He left her hanging, and she couldn't even blame him for it.

He really was a cat, a petty demon! It would take about another hour or more to reach the castle again, she only left him hanging for a little bit of time.

Sighing quietly to herself, she accepted it and began to let her mind wander. Finally, she'd learn more about the world that the developers refuse to talk about, how exciting!

"There are quite a lot of races, more than I expected. Just how many do you think there are?" She asked, remembering the amount of books she flipped through.

Shrugging, he made a rough estimate. "At least a hundred last I checked, but a few may have gone extinct during the past few thousand years." He commented. He had never really left the demon realm, as most demons don't, so he couldn't exactly be sure.

Although the news was a little surprising, she couldn't say she didn't expect it. She just really wanted to go back to her room, relax, and read peacefully. Perhaps for one day, she would be able to, she hoped.
