Marcus sat behind his desk with a huge grin on his face that made Katherine's heart jump. If he was this happy, surely the rescue mission must have gone on without a hitch. He gestured to the seats on the other side of his desk, and waited for Katherine and Charles to sit before he told them the news.
Katherine let go of Charles's hand and practically ran to the chair. She sat down and felt herself lean forwards towards Marcus, intent on not missing a single detail.
Charles followed quickly behind her and sat to her left. He also remained silent, eager to hear his father's words.
"She's in stable condition and the medic on the jet checked all of her vitals and is attending to any wounds she may have. She's safe, she's responsive, and she's coming home," Marcus said with relief woven through every word he uttered.
