Chapter 37 - Chapter 37-Prickly like the thorn of a Rose

Li Jun walked into the Professor's office and knocked on her door.

Professor Li Na opened the door quickly; her eyes still angry, shooting daggers at him. "What was that stunt you pulled?" she spat angrily.

"It was not a stunt; it was just my way of trying to get your attention. I came here yesterday but you were not around. You were not picking my call," Li Jun started mildly as he entered and closed the door behind him, and walked over to the chair in front of her table.

"So you went ahead and started an argument that might cause gossip and confusion, in front of the whole class?" Li Na asked as she cut off his argument.

"Li Na…"

"That is Professor Li Na to you. I'd have you expelled if you were anyone else." Li Na said in a tone that was deceptively calm as she continued "That was the most horrible show of juvenile behavior I have ever witnessed. Your disruptive attitude is absolutely unacceptable in my class. On top of that, you practically made the topic useless as if I was not qualified enough to know what I was doing. You are never to interrupt my class in this sort of way again, Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes," Li Jun answered.

"Your display made me realize that the decision to transfer you to another lecturer was the best decision I ever made, so get your project ready and submit it to Professor Feng."

" Are done talking, Li Na?" Li Jun growled as he suddenly stood up from his chair and stalked Li Na.

"What are you trying to do?" Li Na swallowed hard and shivered as she saw him walking towards her in the cramped office, the tone of his voice was eerily calm, causing goosebumps to suddenly spread across her skin.

"I said I was sorry for the lapse in my Judgement. I sent you messages. Did you even listen to my voice messages? Or did you just delete them?" He continued in a commanding tone.

"I listened to them."

"You listened to them, but you didn't believe them. And you sure as hell didn't answer them. You ignored me when I wanted to talk to you."

"Is that the reason why you put my underwear in my mailbox at the departmental office?" Li Na countered.

"Come on, Li Na!" he snapped. " I called you, you didn't pick up. I came to your house, you didn't answer me, at least you wouldn't want me to drop your underwear outside for the world to see. I came to your office and you were ignoring me. If I'd sent it to you through the courier services, there would have been a paper trail. That would have been far more incriminating to you as a professor."

"I started this situation by getting angry at you when you helped me home, but you finished it, Li Na, and you finished it by not listening to the reason why I reacted that way. You are not going to stop being my supervisor. Clear? I am not going to drop out of the program or let any other Professor supervise me. And we're going to pretend this situation never happened. Don't be Prickly like the thorn of a rose"

Li Na stepped back as she saw that he was gradually closing in on her "Prickly? Mr. Lu Li Jun, you have no right to tell me what to do. I have every right not to supervise you, so can you step back and get out of my office, Now." Li Na glanced over at the door, wishing she could fling it open and throw him out of her office.

Li Jun ignored her and closed the gap between them, standing only inches from her. "I am not going anywhere, Li Na. Do you know what I think? I think you're afraid." He breathed. "The only thing I can't work out is whether it's yourself, you're afraid of me, or how the relationship is going to work out."

Her gaze narrowed. "Wow! You really have me figured out, don't you? Why on earth would you think this has got anything to do with fear? I not wanting to start an Illicit relationship with you is now seen as fear? Are you kidding me? Your arrogance is top-notch."

He didn't look away, holding her gaze with his. "You have no problem starting it the first time but because of a little problem, you ran away. Li Na, I would never hurt you. I have learned my lesson. Understand that right now. "

Her mouth opened then shut and she abruptly looked away.

But he didn't. He couldn't. He wanted to look at her because she was so freaking beautiful. A surge of heat went through him, dangerous and hot. Making the ache inside him even tighter than it was already.

"I'm not afraid of you," she said, continuing to look around her office to avoid his eyes.

"Then why won't you look at me?"

She let out a little impatient breath then tilted her head, looking d at him, her gaze sharp as she put on a blank stare. " Are you serious? I don't want unnecessary drama in my life. Remember I've seen your file," she said conversationally. "CEO of a large company. Top of the class. Wealthy family. Good-looking and, like I will like to point out, you are so full of yourself. You don't give a shit about the rules because they don't apply to people like you, right?" Her tone was cold. "I don't know you, Li Jun, but I've seen many men like you that thought things should work their way and in my experience, you're all the same. You think you know everything. You think with a snap of your finger every girl should fall for you, and yes, it was true I almost fell for you." Her mouth curved in a faint smile. "Well, sweetheart, I hate to break it to you, but you don't know anything and you certainly don't know me. So stop playing these lovey-dovey games and get out of my office."

"This is not a game and you know it. You know that I am serious about you. You need to calm down and listen to what I have to say."

She gave a dismissive kind of laugh. "Oh, I don't think so. This conversation is over. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to attend a meeting."

Li Jun put his hands against the wall trapping her in a Kabedon pose. A whimper escaped her lips as she struggled to move away from him. He closed the gap between them and brought his hands to brush away the wrinkles that marred her face due to the frown. When she didn't flinch, he brought his lips even close to her ear, and the air from his mouth caused her to shiver. "Don't be a coward, Li Na."

"I am not a coward."

"You're the one who's chasing me away from you."

"You're the one who caused it."

"Yes, I'm the one but your stubbornness is giving us another chance. You never gave me a chance!"

"Shouting at me won't persuade me to talk to you!"

Suddenly His mouth collided with hers, passionately but briefly, until he tore himself from her lips to whisper in her ear. "Do you want me to stop?" His lower lip trailed temptingly along her earlobe.
