Chapter 9 - How Long Have You Been Dating?

Susan initially wanted to bid farewell, but her stomach was burning uncomfortably. After taking a seat, she took a toast and chewed in small mouthfuls.

"About yesterday night… thanks."

She knew right from wrong. Even if she was feeling emotional, she still thanked him.

"There's no need to. After all, I don't want to see the future wife of the Quin family's fourth son being drunk by the roadside on the news."

Susan was speechless.

He had such a vicious tongue, didn't he?

During the meal, Susan kept stealing glances at the man opposite her from time to time.

He was elegant and handsome. Aside from his identity, Brad Quin was indeed a rare noble man.

At this time, the nanny, Auntie Lucy, walked over with a phone from the living room. "Sir, there's a call for you!"

Brad wiped the corners of his mouth and looked at the screen. He looked up and glanced at her strangely.

Susan was confused.

The man stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room. Susan's gaze also landed on him.

Handsome, elegant, cold and arrogant temperament.

"Miss, you're the first girl our Sir has brought home! How long have you been dating?"

Just when Susan was observing Brad, Auntie Lucy leaned in with a gossipy look.

"Ah…"

Shocked by her, Susan choked.

The smile on Auntie Lucy's chubby face deepened. After handing her milk, she started to clean up the plates. "Miss, you don't have to be shy. Our Sir is outstanding. You have good taste! When I changed your clothes for you yesterday night, Sir instructed me repeatedly to be careful and not hurt you!"

She was surprised. She didn't expect Brad to be so considerate and meticulous. Susan wanted to refute after that. "Actually, we…"

"Have you finished eating? I'll get Hans to send you home!"

At this time, Brad, who had finished the call, coincidentally returned. Susan hurriedly drank two sips of milk, nodded, and stood up. "Yes, let's go!"

Before leaving, Susan didn't ignore Auntie Lucy's smiling eyes, which were full of expectation and relief.

Once Susan stepped into the Yates family, she saw her mother, Betty Lincoln, sitting at the European-style sofa drinking tea.

When she saw her, Madam Lincoln put down her teacup and asked coldly but gently, "Why are you getting back just now?"

"I went to Faye's house yesterday night!"

Susan changed her shoes and answered Madam Lincoln's question.

Her cold and indifferent expression made Susan feel full of desolation.

Since she was young, she knew that Madam Lincoln didn't like her.

All her love and concern went to her younger brother, Sam Yates.

Her attitude towards her was always like a glass of warm water. It was neither hot nor cold, and it was just the right amount of politeness and alienation.

Sometimes, she would even suspect if she was her biological daughter.

Madam Lincoln sized up Susan. Seeing that nothing was amiss, she said warningly, "You're a celebrity now. Pay more attention to your words and actions. Don't spend too much time with shady people."

She knew that Madam Lincoln had always looked down on Faye's ordinary family background. However, she didn't retaliate as it was useless to say more. She only faintly responded, "Yes, Mom."

"I heard from your dad that you've met the fourth son of the Quin family yesterday?"

Upon hearing this, Susan's heart sank. "Yes."

"The Quin family is indispensable in helping the Yates family tide over the difficulties this time. Both families will meet in three days. Go and order a custom-made gown and turn up in that. Don't throw our family's face."

Susan stood in the living room and dug her fingernails into her palms. When she heard this, she looked up and into Madam Lincoln's eyes. "Mom, must we get married?"

Madam Lincoln frowned and her face sank. "Why? Do you think there's room to change things now? Do you know how many betrothal gifts the Quin family gave us for this marriage? If not for these, do you think you can still live well?"

"So you used my happiness as a chip to exchange for your benefits?"
