In the afternoon, Susan received a call from her agent, Nick Chapman.
After arranging a meeting place, she changed into a long cotton linen dress. A crochet belt was wrapped around her slender waist. She wore a sun hat and headed out.
At her company downstairs, the moment Susan alighted from the car, she saw Xyla walking out of the lobby angrily. Then, she got into a white Jaguar by the side of the road.
Susan's expression was calm. She watched the car drive away before stepping into the lobby.
Nick had already told her about the hot search incident last night.
She never took Xyla's provocation to heart. However, this time, it involved her past with Tom. Things weren't that simple anymore.
It was obvious that someone was deliberately creating a rhythm.
In the office, Nick was smoking a cigarette irritably. His flower shirt was crooked. When he saw Susan appear, he snubbed out his cigarette and opened the windows.
"I saw Xyla just now!" Susan said as she sat down. Then, she added, "You scolded her?"
Nick snorted and laughed coldly. "It's considered light to have scolded her. If not for her, the hot search yesterday wouldn't have caused such a big reaction from fans. I ended two of her endorsements and a supporting role."
Susan was shocked and didn't understand. "Is there a need to be so exaggerated?"
She wasn't speaking up for Xyla. She just felt that it was a huge price to pay.
Nick's cool gaze landed on Susan's face. "The company had long given orders that no one is to discuss the matter between you and Tom. Who gave Xyla the guts such that she dared to be sarcastic to you in public?!"
Xyla could be said to be completely doing herself in.
Susan tugged the corners of her mouth slightly and said casually, "It's all in the past anyway. It's nothing to talk about."
Nick had an expression that spelled she had failed to live up to his expectations. After a long time, he picked up a file from the table and handed it to her. "Here's the air ticket and itinerary for Italy next month. There's still less than half a month to go. Do your styling in advance. The company will prepare outfits for you."
…
After coming out from the company, Susan rejected Nick's invitation for a meal.
She stood by the road and looked at the bustling streets. She felt a sense of sorrow.
For the next half a month, in order for her to focus on the upcoming fashion week, Nick didn't arrange any other jobs for her.
She initially wanted to head home. However, upon thinking about Madam Lincoln's attitude at home, Susan dispelled the thought.
She hailed a taxi and headed to Parkson Mall.
As it was a workday, the inside and outside of stores in the mall looked a little deserted.
Susan went to the women fashion's department on the third floor and planned to choose a few suitable gowns for herself.
No matter what, the marriage was going to become a reality. John had already said it clearly. Madam Lincoln had personally instructed her not to throw the Yates family's face away. She couldn't ignore the meeting between both families three days later.
At MC Brand, the moment Susan appeared, the salesgirl welcomed her passionately.
"Miss Yates, you're here!"
"Yes. Bring out a couple of new gowns for me!"
Susan was the spokesperson for MC Brand, to begin with. Her ability to carry the goods was very powerful.
The moment she heard this, she immediately led Susan to the exclusive fitting room and smiled.
As Susan changed into a bright yellow fishtail dress, she was shocked to hear a voice outside before she could walk out from the fitting room. "Pab, is this outfit pretty?"
Her heart suddenly sank.
She remembered Felicia Queen's voice.
Especially since the other party name-called in such a familiar manner.
In the entire circle, the only person who would address Tom in such a manner was Felicia.
Susan stood in the fitting room and her fingertips couldn't help but dig into her dress.
