"What do you mean by that?" I asked looking curious
"If you really want to get those men off your back, you have to become a ghost. They must believe you are dead. Then you live keeping a low profile. That is the only way you can survive this and I can help you with that if you do what I say" she said
I couldn't decide whether to trust this stranger I meant few minutes ago or not but then I had to choose between two evils and hers was lesser. If anything at all, I knew she saved my life and she wasn't going to kill me..at least for now.
"How are you going to help me become a ghost and keep a low profile?" I asked again
"That's the easiest among a hundred and one stuff I can do" she said with pride
"Is that what you did to yourself too, to survive?" I asked
"You know you really ask so many questions. No wonder those men won't stop chasing you. The less you know the better for you young man. So what's the deal? Are you in or not?" Sarah asked again
"I'm in, as long as I can get them off my back and live a normal life I'm in" I responded looking directly into her eyes for the first time since the few minutes we met.
I snapped out of my thoughts when my phone rang, I was startled. It was Sarah. She was the only one who could reach me on that number but I was so deep in my thoughts that the loud noise felt like an electric shock bringing me back to reality.
She told me they finally closed the office and she was hiding somewhere too. I was relieved she was fine but she was really worried for me. At that point, I knew nothing about this people or their organization or why my parents had to be killed but one thing was certain. My parents were killed unjustly and I did nothing about it and the same people are out there hunting for me.
I felt like I was being punished for ignoring my parent's brutal death and doing nothing about it. My nemesis finally caught up with me now that they are looking for me. It was also why the late doctor chose to visit me out of numerous places he could have gone to. I knew what to do but didn't know where to start from or how to go about it. I suddenly remembered the name of the pharmaceutical company and felt I needed to know more about it. That could be my starting point. I dialed Sarah's number.
"Hey, sorry for bothering you but could you find out more about Genaid Pharmaceuticals? I mean information about them that are available online"
"No problem,on it" Sarah replied at the end of the call.
I dropped the call and started reading the files all over again. If I wanted to win against this enemy, I had to study the enemy and know the enemy. I'm wasn't going to run like a coward like I did 15 years ago. Sarah called back after a few minutes
"I just found something interesting Alex" she said
"What is that?" I answered with curiosity
"Genaid Pharmaceutical has a list of VIP members. I'm not talking about their shareholders, I mean a group of elites that is registered with the company, why would a pharmaceutical company need VIP members? It's not like it's a hotel or a department store.
"Can you get their names and find out who the members are?"
"Yes I did but the names on the list seemed like their code names but I should be able to find something soon"
"Let me know when you do Sarah, thank you" I dropped the call
Why would a pharmaceutical company that produced drugs need VIP members asides from their legal shareholders? And why was there any need for code names. Something definitely was off. I just had to wait for Sarah to come up with something while I studied the file Dr Thompson left with me. Sarah called again, I quickly picked up
"Did you find anything?" I asked immediately
"Oh my God Alex, put on your tv" she said
I put on my tv and the first thing I saw was the picture of the 16 year old me. It was said on the news that I was the prime suspect for the murder of Dr Thompson and I was wanted. I felt my whole world crumble that moment. Just few days ago I was sitting in my office counseling people and today I was a fugitive?
My phone dropped from my hand as Sarah kept asking if I was okay. Her voice suddenly started to sound distant and felt like an echo. I wanted to just vanish.
How did they find out about me after 15 years that quickly?
I thought I had done a good job hiding and keeping my identity. But it took them nothing to expose who I was and framed me for a crime I knew nothing about. As I was still trying to get myself together from the shock and I suddenly heard someone banging on my door.
"Mr Alex! Open up! It's the police!!
