Chapter 12 - Chapter 11

Without waste of anymore second, she came up with her own theory to get Joseph off the hook. In this theory, she made sure to implicate Mwithali to get him off their backs completely. This meant that Mwithali had to die no matter the cost. He was becoming a stump on their way to success. Although she had this figured out, she could not tell it directly to the King. It could either get her and Joseph exposed, else it could sound staged or vague.

She had to do it in such a way not to raise an alarm. She also needed to make sure that Joseph knew of her plan. Their talk and accusations towards Mwithali needed to match; else, it could mean disaster. This approach to the King needed to use facts such that, he was supposed to convince himself of Joseph's innocence.

This therefore meant that, Dorothy had to use a trusted warrior to deliver an encrypted message to the Captain. He was to inform the Captain of her plan. After she did this, she was now free to open up to the King and tell of this discovery. Early the following morning, she visited the King and their conversation was as follows.

"Greetings your majesty; a wonderful night you have had I presume," started the Princess.

"Greetings to you my princess; I have had a fantastic night. I have waited long for this day and, now that it's here, it is time to get rid of the mole that has been eating the core of our society," replied Martin.

"About that my King, are you certain that Joseph is guilty as charged or, it's just another setup to create chaos?" asked the sister.

"What do you mean Dorothy? Are you suggesting that, I am not aware of what I am doing, or, is it that Mwithali could be lying against Joseph?" asked the King in rage.

"No! No my King. That is not what I meant. You made a vow to protect this Kingdom against all enemies and, sending Joseph to the dungeons was the right thing to do. What I…" said Dorothy

"…let me cut you short my dear sister. If sending Joseph to the dungeons was the right thing to do, why then think that he might be innocent?" asked Martin.

"I am not saying he is innocent. All I am saying is…do you not think two days is a little time to his execution? He might be guilty but, he served you and father well if I recall correctly," continued the Princess.

"Of course that's true my Princess. Joseph has been the best Captain from our father's reign to mine. That, I give him but, don't forget that, this exact reason might have given him an agenda to mutiny too," said King Martin.

"Well, that might be true as well. All I am saying is just give him a few more days before execution. Though he might have done this mistake, and, I am not saying he has, he was the best. He also happens to have a family too. Let him have enough time with his people. Besides, I have my doubts that people share the same idea," said Dorothy.

"What idea is this you talk about my sister? Please enlighten me. As your King, I deserve to know," requested the King.

"It's just that, the people love Joseph as Captain. This includes the warriors. Though a few of them testified against him, his execution may cause hatred among the people and warriors as well. With our current events, a rebellion is the last thing we need in Kamu if, we are to win against Lampa," said Dorothy.

"I hear you my princess, and, I do agree with you but, remember, even if this might happen, it's just an aftermath that we should expect and deal with. Else, if we go by how people love someone, then, I bet there could be no need for law or justice. Those with bad intensions against us could use this same reason to challenge us. If there is something I learnt from our father as the King is that, never put your trust on your servants. This is why we have warriors," said Martin.

"Very well my King, but, pardon me for prying. Did you know of Mwithali and Joseph's hatred?" asked Dorothy.

"Of course I knew about it Dorothy. I am the King… remember? In addition, let me make this clear to you; even if you convinced me otherwise, I cannot do much for Joseph. His case rests in the hands of the council now," continued Martin.

"I am much aware of this my King, but, you chose them and also, are a member of this council. They all answer to you as King. Does your vote not count in these decisions? Not to be rude my King but, last I checked, you made all the major decisions," said Dorothy.

What is so special about this Joseph that makes you interested in his case this much? What's in it for you to gain?" asked the King.

"I would hate for it to be known later that the Captain was innocent and yet executed. This could not be good for any of us. I represent these people as their Princess. I am just trying to be a better one. That's all," said Dorothy.

"Alright sister; you got me to listen. What is it you have that can save Joseph? It is not that I too want him executed. He was and is my Captain, remember?" said Martin.

"It's not about Joseph but Mwithali my King. Did you know that ever since the loss of the battle during Lampa's attack, Mwithali has been swearing to ensure that Joseph was involved and get him off his way?" said Dorothy.

"No! No! No! Do not go there sister. You want to tell me that, you have your witnesses too. This is becoming a game. I do not know whom to believe anymore. For your information, all the warriors at the battle field were involved," said Martin.

"Exactly my point my King, but, I assure you that, what I have will prove that it's no game," said Dorothy.

"Hit it on me sister, hit it on me. What is this you have that will have me change my mind?" asked the King.

"Did you know that Mwithali had the warriors give a false witness against the Captain? All this so that he could become the Captain after Joseph is executed?" said Dorothy.

"Did he now; what more do you have to tell me? Do you have this warrior to prove what you say sister; if you do, have him brought to the palace right away?" said the King.

"Of course I have him my King, he is coming shortly." said Dorothy.

As Dorothy was spying to know who was behind Joseph's implication, she also found out that a few warriors engineered by Mwithali testified against Joseph. She took a huge advantage of the discovery. She had approached one of these warriors and framed him of having an affair with a King's maiden. Though none of these was true, this warrior had not an option but to play by the Princess's rules.

She asked him of this whole story about implicating Joseph and in return, promised to keep his relationship a secret.
