"Couldn't this alarm be less annoying in the morning!?!"
I'm Jackson, Jackson Ismael Granite.
I woke up today just like any other day. Smashed my alarm's snooze button, rolled out of bed, and sniffed my pits to see if I needed to shower. I then grabbed my toothbrush and posed in the mirror as I brushed my teeth. After enough admiration of what some may call an overall unimpressive body, I proceeded to realize that I had 15 minutes until my new school started.
"Fuck! I gotta go! I can't be late on my first day!"
The way to school took about 15 minutes if I rushed, 25 if I walked. At least that's what Giggle maps said. The scenery on the way actually isn't too bad either. I just moved outside Bridgeton City a couple months ago, and I gotta say it lives up to the bridge part of its namesake. It held one of the largest bridges in the North American Coalition!
'Looking at this bridge still amazes me even after a couple months of living here. How did they even build it?'
Of course as an island city I guess it does make sense though. A lot of the workforce of the city comes from right across the channel and I'm sure they don't want to have to pay for a boat ride everyday.
Right off from the bridges are were all the shops to capture the tourists coming in or out. It always smells like some delicious cuisine, exotic or otherwise. Being on the east coast of North America, there was a lot of sub and sandwich shops here too.
*GROWL*
'These smells are amazing. Too bad there so expensive, my job couldn't allow me to eat at any of these places and keep living in my apartment.'
Regretfully I'm poor, my parents died when I was young, my siblings and I have been split up, and I've been moved all across the country. Luckily this didn't stop me from getting my system which would show up right about... now.
*Ding*
'Integration with host has begun'
After that a little bar showed up in the top right of my vision.
'Must be the hunger' I thought
After all I hadn't eaten and my stomach was already protesting. But what could I do, I had to make it to school on time. Apparently this "Bridgeton High" is very strict, especially when it comes to attendance.
'Wait what time is it anyway?'
Looking at my watch I had found out I only had five minutes left to make it to school.
...
Needless to say I was a little late. But when I got to school it wasn't what I expected. None of the yelling at me, none of the checking out the new kid, none of that. Instead almost everyone was sort of in a daze or seemed to be bothered by something. There were some exceptions though. Some were saying stuff like "my time has come", others babbling about a weird phenomenon.
My suspicion naturally aroused, I asked the closest person to me what the fuck was going on. It was a little awkward since I was new here but I wasn't too worried about that considering the state of the room.
I proceeded to hear from this person, "Could be the end of the world, the start of hyper evolution, or maybe neither. But it is at least the dawn of a New Era."
Remembering the strange hallucination I'd been seeing since the restaurants. I could only think these were related, and to be honest I got caught up in the whole excitement and confusion.
'Is this it? My big chance? My time to shine in an epic and awesome way?'
*BOOM!*
My thoughts of the future where changed when an explosion that rocked the classroom was heard. That's when the mass panic started to hit those in a daze. surprisingly some looked like they knew this would happen.
'Terrorists?'
No it couldn't be, my instincts were telling me it was something different. As an avid reader of webnovels I had another thought but I couldn't confirm it 'till I checked. A cold sweat started pouring off me as I took steps toward the window. It was pretty seeing as those in a panic already ran out of the classroom. What I saw next only brought one word to my mind,
'Apocalypse.'
There was fire everywhere. Bodies, rubble, and other items strewn about. People screaming. People crying. Then I saw it. Zombies. Actual fucking zombies! That's when I knew the world had officially gone to shit.
"What to do! What do I do!"
Out of panic I closed and locked the door of the classroom, trapping whoever was left in the classroom. After calming down a little I checked out the room. The only left inside were the ones having a nervous breakdown, and the ones who were stunned, plus that stranger I asked what was happening. About 12 people total including me, 6 guys and 6 girls.
'Let's see, is there a TV in here?'
After a little more searching I couldn't find one so I just took out my phone. Looking at the internet I saw that this was happening all over the globe. News articles saying 'The End is Here' and 'Prepare Yourself' where everywhere. There was even a presidential address happening straight from President Filibusters vacation home. Of course they were just saying the same thing as everyone else but in a uselessly long way.
'Let's check out this system then'
*Ding*
*The system is still in the integration phase, please wait until it is finished*
Sighing I looked at the progress bar that was about 50% full. It would take just a few more minutes
...
*Ding*
*Integration done, system ready for use*
After hearing that I went to the window. During these last few minutes a lot of thoughts had gone through my head, but there was only one that constantly stayed.
"What in the fucking hell happened here!"
