Chapter 1 - Robbie

It was the day when weird dust started to spread, where everything fell apart. Although the dust stopped spreading, those who were already sick did not cease to feel the urge to consume flesh. Me, my sister Amari, and my two other friends Dillan and Kate were in an old abandoned gas station looking for supplies."I knew we should have brought Jacklin, because at any moment a herd of flesh-eating demons will be in her trying to eat our guts out, and yet you only wanted to bring us four people!" Amari said, sounding a bit angry. I put my hand on my sister's shoulder and told her I wouldn't let anything happen to her. She faked a smile and kept walking. Amari was 12 and a fighter. However, being as small as she was, I didn't want to take any chances, but as stubborn as she was, she came nonetheless. We broke into two groups and looked around. The store was in really terrible shape. The soaked papers and boxes on the floor weren't making it much easier to walk. "I knew it!" Amari said standing at the door with an angry expression. I couldn't tell what she was looking at so I tried to get a better look. I stepped a bit closer to the door as I realized what she was talking about. About ten roamers were heading towards us and didn't look like they were willing to slow down. G-guys, let's get moving...like NOW! The others came rushing to the door to see what we were talking about. The first thing we did was go to the back door, and I noticed a gate when we were outside. "There's a gate, we can probably jump over it and buy us some time." I announced to the group. We all ran as fast as our legs could move to the gate and began to jump over. When we were all over the gate I looked around and noticed somebody was missing. "Where's Amari?" Dillan pointed at the gate and I could see her running as fast as she could toward the gate and the roamers were beginning to catch up to her. When she got to the gate I quickly rushed to help her get over, but her shirt got caught on a wire and the roamers were coming. Amari was crying, "Leave! I'll only hold you up. "Shut up I'm not leaving you", The roamers were now right below Amari. Amari gave me a small smile and pulled away...

I tried to grab her but I didn't have a secure grip and she fell. I woke up crying and sweating. Next to me were Dillan and Kate. Kate was rubbing my head with a wet cloth. She said, "You have to forget her, we all miss her but she is not coming back" said Kate quite harshly but quite honestly. "But I promised her- I know, I understand", she said, pulling me into a hug. I buried my face in her shirt and began sobbing on her shoulder. I felt a relief to release all of this pain, but it still hurt to know she was dead. I let go of Kate and rubbed my eyes. Thanks guys sorry I woke you up. Dillan stood and said, "No bro, that's just what we're here for, isn't it? I laughed a bit and said yeah. Although I didn't show it, I was angry. I was angry, not at Kate nor Dillan, but at those bloody roamers. I'm determined to get justice for Amari, regardless of how Kate and Dillan feel about it.
